I do not know why I keep coming here every weekend, but I am drawn. There is nothing spectacular about Ashfield mall. Except maybe that I affectionately refer to it as "hashfield" because I swear some of the people I've seen walking around in here are off chops. It has the usual suspects. K-Mart, Coles, Woolies, and just in case that isn't enough supermarket action for you, Aldi have recently opened in the stead of the much maligned Franklins. Boost Juice. Yes. KFC yeah, one of those dirty bird outlets.. Food court has recently had a re-vamp. Chinese, Kebabeque....( points for originality) Dollar king for your fix of useless shite knick knacks and budget crafts and hobby stuffs. I know I love them. In the ring vs The Reject shop, and it now even has a shop completely dedicated to Onesies. All of the Onesies from little kid sizes to Adult. EB Games = Win! What isn't there to buy? It's kind of everything you both do and don't need in a mall. (You do need toilet seats though, and the newly renovated toilets on Level 2 have had it a bit rough. I took 2 stars away for lack of hygene and lack of loo seats in the Ladies). read more

The rate that shops open and then shut down at Ashfield Mall is quite alarming - what starts out as a good concept for a shop gets you drawn in - then six weeks later you get a closing down sale! It's chameleonic in such a bizarre way. Originally an awkwardly-placed shopping strip in the middle of a dowdy, cement-bricked and badly-paved section of Ashfield, it's been smartened up over the past year or so. The food court, Kmart and various shops have undergone a much-needed modern makeover, and it's starting to mesh nicely with the new Library and Civic Centre. Simply put though, while it may have character and many, MANY Asian-themed shops, restaurants and grocery stores for a seasoned Sinophile, in terms of variety and general aesthetic it's not as good as some of the other shopping malls further into the city and in other parts of the inner-west, which is why many locals only tend to use it for utilitarian purposes. read more

Average mall in the inner west. We get our groceries there, and may eat in the food court or have a cappuccino, but for serious shopping we usually end up in Burwood Westfield or Broadway. For a good lunch you can try the Sushi or the Thai in the food court. The Thai takeaway (Kow Thai Thai) is particularly good. You get a delicious Thai dish for a fraction of what you would pay in most Thai restaurants. Highly recommended! read more
