Excited to try this spot. We're a Cuban and Puerto Rican household and it's always hard to find good Cuban food, as it's started to lack in NJ. First off, the staff was 100% overwhelmed. We both have come from the industry, so we didn't mind it since you could tell the staff was stressed. I could definitely see how waiting 10+ min for someone to acknowledge you could bother someone and we could hear others chatting about it behind us. Food took over 30+ minutes to get to us; Cuban, croquetta preparada, 3 empanadas, fries and two batidos. The restaurant is set up where you feel like it's a quick service spot but it definitely is not quick. I think this could throw people off when coming in. When we finally got the food - it was worth the wait. One of the best Cuban sandwiches we've had in awhile and the best in NJ. My husband tore up his croquetta preparada and we loved the batidos. The empanadas were good but I think the sandwiches were the stars for sure. It's very pricey but right now with inflation everything is and with the quality of the ingredients I could understand how they have to charge this while prices are high. Maybe they'll adjust as inflation adjusts but you are buying what you pay for. We both could have finished the entire sandwich in one sitting but probably felt too full after. Finally got around to trying this place, and it is a lot smaller than I imagined. There's no seating, it's a cute grab-and-go kind of spot. I asked the girl at the register what was the most ordered sandwich, she said the Cubano. The guy next to her chimed in and said the chimichurri chicken empanada was the most popular one so I got that as well and for dessert the guava and cheese empanada. 1. I was really hungry so I started the chicken empanada in the car, flavorful. But I just felt like something was missing. When I got home I made a little mayo and Sriracha mix to dip.. and yes! If you're management here, I give you this idea free of charge, it was perfect with the dip. 3. The Cubano, it was okay. One side of my sandwich had a really thick cut piece of pork in there and it was a little pink on the inside which scared me so I pulled it out just to be safe. Soft bread, mustard was not overpowering. 4. I wish I had taken a bite of the guava and cheese empanada while it was still hot straight from the store, by the time I got home 10 minutes later and ate my other items the empanada dough was a little chewy. But the filling was good. Willing to go back and try other items since the place was nice, I like to support small/ local business, good staff...oh, I waited outside with my dog and the guy behind the register was nice and brought my food out to me, that was sweet. read more

Decided to stop and check this place out. Hubby got the beef and cheese empanada. I got the Cuban sandwich empanada. Hubby also got the espresso and for dessert we got the tres leches. Everything was very good. The garlic sauce that comes with the Cuban sandwich empanada is GREAT!!! Will definitely stop by again. Next time for the Cuban sandwich. Wanted to try this place for a minute. I'm a huge fan of Cuban cafes. Good reviews too. Ordered: steak & a cuban sandwich, beef empanadas, papa rellena, piece of tres leche cake, pineapple shake and some sodas. When I walked in was looked at not greeted. Music was playing LOUD, biggie or 50 don't remember lol. It took about 10 minutes to be served or asked what I wanted. You can tell they were busy packing previous orders. Finally was greeted and served, guy was nice. It took about twenty or so minutes for my order (to go). It's not a big place, narrow in front, there are some two seater tables in the back with the view of the grill/cooking. It's decorated nice, owner must love Biggie. It's cool. I enjoyed the steak sandwich, they put a garlic aioli on it which works perfect for it. Not a fan of the mayo though. Imo could do without. My husband didn't like his Cuban sandwich at all. Beef empanada was good and was surprised by the cheese in it. The beef has really good flavor. The papa rellena was also good meat flavored well, I'm just not a fan of that type of crust. (Panko?). But still ate it. Tres leche cake was also good. Not a I'm coming here for this from now on good, but good enough. I also enjoyed. They are expensive. I mean really expensive for some menu items. Most sandwiches are $14, empanadas are $3.50/$4, papa rellena $5 (that's a lot). Desserts $7 (over priced). A good empanada shouldn't be more than $3. Yes it's my opinion. Now again, my opinion, this place is trendy and when places are trendy they tend to be more expensive. I know there's rent, payroll, etc. There are places that you know your mouth waters just thinking of their food. For me, not here. Glad I tried what I did. Ok so first of all, the food is top notch. The maduros - te la comiste making these. They're as good as my grandmother used to make them. The ropa vieja - coñó! The only negative is the service - and it's not that they're not nice. They ARE SO NICE. But it's just every time I go in there, they seem disorganized. Like they just opened & the staff seems overwhelmed by the volume. Which would make sense if it was new, but I was there six months ago and their ease behind the counter seemed completely unimproved since the last visit. Came here on a whim because I wanted Cuban coffee. Ended up also order the pan con bistec and it did not disappoint neither did the café con leche. My sandwich came out pretty quick however my coffee took about 30 mins. The guy at the register was on his own taking orders and preparing coffees. A man came in, maybe the owner or a manager perhaps and they were prepared coffee before my order was even prepared. Everything we tried was very good- the frita was one of the best I've ever had .He makes his own mix of chorizo and meat to get a delicious blend and the fries were perfect. I enjoyed the empanadas- nice and flaky shell and good filling. The Cuban sandwich was good but not the best I've ever had. The croquetas for me needed more bechamel so it was too hammy for me.Yes, I know it's a ham croquette but he bechamel makes it smoother. Now on to dessert- the 3 leches cake was so good. I could have had another- the amount of soak and extra liquid were perfect. We ordered 2 cortados-those we did not enjoy- it wAs a small cafe con leche not a cortado. The service was great but there were some errors in the process. I ordered 2 breakfast empanadas one bacon egg and cheese and one chorizo with egg, somehow all the empanadas were bacon and egg and they couldn't find the chorizo as someone put the chorizo in the wrong space in the warmer so the hostess/waitress kept giving me bacon ones lol. Eventually I did get my empanada and took it home. My husband's ordered a Cuban sandwich which what we are use to is a lot of pork (pernil) with ham, Swiss and all the fixings however the amount of pork was kinda of like deli meat slice of ham portion. Sensational food! Cuban spots have honestly been a dime a dozen these days but Cubita is a welcomed departure from those dime a dozen spots and truly has its own unique identity. We ordered several of the empanadas, the traditional Cuban sandwich, mango shake, croquetas, and a cafe con leche on the way out. Everything we ordered was so flavorful. Cubita packs a serious punch in the flavor category and I love it!!!..Cuban food is bold in the flavor category and Cubita is, dare I say, just as bold as it's flavors. First, the everything bagel seasoning on the outside of the breakfast empanadas is just sheer genius. That and it's contents are the perfect flavor sidekicks and to top it off with the cafe con leche is a great breakfast on the go. The inside was just stacked with egg and chorizo..I hate biting into an empanada and all you get is the crust and pastry in the bite. Well, this is not a problem here. Your first bite is packed with flavor and all the meaty goodness inside. The beef and cheese empanada was piping hot when it arrived at the table. They were all freshly made. You can taste the freshness and quite frankly, the quality of the ingredients. My one and only nitpick with the empanadas was that they weren't a bit bigger so that there is more to enjoy. The Cuban sandwich was great. The bread had a great crunch which many Cuban sandwich joints don't have and it's because they're usually not using presser properly. The bread was fantastic. The Cubano sandwich was my favorite. The mojo from the pork comes through perfectly and each bite was more delicious than the previous one. I know La Pola in west new York gets a lot of hype but don't sleep on Cubita's Cubano. The mango shake was also very good. It was well balanced in that it didn't taste too milky or too "mangoey." It was very refreshing and easy to get through. It didn't sit heavy in your stomach and it's flavor reminded me of El Palacio de los Jugos down in Miami. Lastly, the ham croquetas were thick, filled with ham, and masterfully molded. Cubita is on the small side but to be honest, these small hole in the wall locations are oftentimes superior to some of these full on restaurants. I also love that the menu options are straightforward, not offering 25 pages of menu items. Cubita is very smart to offer classic Cuban bites along with some modern twists on the classics, should you want to expand the palate a bit. All in all, Cubita gets an A+ from me. What would be kinda cool is if they offered off-menu items for limited time and have it rotated month to month. I'd love to see this place strut it's stuff for the foreseeable future. I've been to the location twice; there is street parking out in the front, and a huge parking lot located in the back -- both metered. The café itself is clean, grab & go style, no seating. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I've ordered chimichurri chicken and Taylor ham/egg/cheese empanada; the fillings were good, but the dough itself is a bit thin and dry. Not sure if it's a cultural style, but I'm used to empanadas being deep fried or baked with a thicker crust, so this was a new experience.
