It's always a comfortable temperature, depending on the weather outside and is a nice escape from the traffic and folks outside. Great spot to grab a cheap beer or mixed drink before heading out to the bonefires. Bathrooms aren't big, but they're clean! Definitely a dive bar - definitely a smoky bar.

The crowd is full of barely legal types and the barely alive regulars that circle the bar at all hours of the day. Rene's has a funky local vibe to it. The main problem is that you probably lose 5-years of your life each time you come here due to all of the smoke you inhale. You should wash your clothes and shower immediately upon leaving here; which could be a good pick-up line.

Fortunately, we stumbled upon a pretty neat place with some live music to boot! The Jolly Inn has a kind, down-home Louisiana atmosphere. There are drunks, yes, but they're nice drunks. And you can never go wrong with a jukebox. The clincher for the 4-star rating, however, was that on Friday evenings the Jolly Inn has a "Cajun night" in the back hall that houses some great, lively Cajun music and food. It's fun for the whole family and cover is only $3. People young and old are there, and it's really a fun, wholesome atmosphere. Band starts playing around 6pm and ends just shy of 11pm. If you're lucky, Mr. Allie "Gator" will give you an 'honorary Cajun' certificate. He was married 39 years on the evening he played for us. Fun stuff.

The place just stopped. You could tell by the look on the collective faces that we had never been in there before. I think the floor is concrete. There is a layer of something similar to dust obscuring it. May have been cigarette ash. I wanted to order a class of Dom just to be obnoxious, but I guessed that would have garnered me an asswhoopin from the two ladies (ahem) seated at the far end of the bar. It was clear that my kind, in my "flashy" $45 boots, weren't welcome there. Apparently, there was concern that we were going to break out a mop and rake to sanitize the place. Their fear was unfounded as we just plopped down and ordered some beers. The bartender was competent..... OMG the smoke smell. I don't mind a bit of smoke, but there is no filtration system in here. My shirt and jeans were stripped off on my front porch and left outside. Eventually, the jukebox wheezed to life and people gathered around the pool table laughing raucously and having a grand ole time. We got a few looks but eventually people warmed up and we started playing in teams on the pool table. The people were nice and interested in why we were in there and why we would come in laughing and carrying on. We told them we had been drinking at the other bar in Norco, and they said "you left there to come here?" apparently the crowds don't mix, and with the benefit of hindsight, I can see that. Most of the hour or so I was in there was spent with no music, but hey, it's not a dance club. This bar has patrons that seem to like the slower pace in life and to concentrate on their drinking and their umm..hookups. A far cry from the FQ scene, and most of the bars in the city. I can't even promise you charm of its own in Club 99, but I can tell you it was an experience. However, I am unlikely to repeat it.

From the atmosphere to the food to the staff to the neighborhood visitors, I can honestly say, this place is awesome. The food was amazing, the bartenders were sweet, there was karaoke going on that night, which was so much fun! The vibe felt more like we were hanging out and having a good time with friends rather than just going out to dinner/to a bar - in the best way possible.
