What a fun time! We found this place just outside of Dublin and it was well worth the trip…read more Fornola (sp?) was a fantastic guide, introducing us to all the animals and taking us for an alpaca walk. We each had our own alpaca to walk around the grounds, with proper instruction on how to handle them. We met the donkeys, sheep, goats (watch you coat, they will nibble on it), chickens, bunnies, geese and, of course, the alpacas. A great time for the family. And Fornola told us all about the history of the farm as well as walked us through the different types of material from alpaca and sheep. Very cool experience.

Here, in this agricultural corner of Dublin the Grysons farm organically. The farm's main activities involve growing ancient cereals which are used in flour and brewing elsewhere. There have been farmers in this area for many centuries and some of the buildings here on Cornstown Farm date back to the time of the Battle of the Boyne. Gently step back onto a farm that grows its crops using reapers and binders as well as modern machines. As the farm is in conversion to organic no artificial chemicals or fertilizers are used, ensuring a sustainable template for food production in the future. Cornstown House is home to a variety of animals including cattle, goats, sheep, poultry, bees and, recently, alpacas who followed the potato to Cornstown nearly 400 years later!

They have some pigs, cows, some mad geese that run after you for food, deer, rabbits, guinea pigs, horses, sheep and much more. Children can get to hold the rabbits and guinea pigs under the supervision of staff. they have a walkway around the farm which makes viewing of all the animals quite easy. Now for those not aware glenroe farm is based on an old Irish soap about a wicklow farming community. the cafe has lots and lots of pictures of Biddy and Miley, and other soap stars from the Reardans right up to Glenroe. i remember when i was 19 i worked in the hunters hotel and fed them most sundays and they seemed really nice. it adds an interesting factor to the visit if you have time to look at the pictures. oh the food it serves; you're better off bringing your own picnic, pretty dear for plain cafe food. but the rest of the visit is well worth it.

We visited yesterday for the 3rd time and it was a great day out again especially in the sunny weather. The kids love to see all the animals and staff take mice/rabbits/etc out for you to pet. There is a cafe that does excellent coffee and a nice, healthy sandwich/pop corn/drink pack for the kids. They have lots of old photos on the wall to reminisce about the times you used to watch Glenroe as a kid. It's amazing how you immediately remember the characters from years ago & my wife and I had a little fun recounting stories from the show. There is a great playground with lots of open space for the kids. However it can get a little chilly if there is a breeze. Yesterday we did the nature walk and were pleasantly surprised. There were 19 signs spaced along the walk describing the flora & fauna and our 3 year old had a great time running to find each one. Along the way there are two beautiful gardens to stop and rest. We only met one lady on the way so it would be ideal for a quite walk or picnic particularly if it was busy. I would definitely recommend it for families with young children aged 2-10.

We brought our 8 and 10 year old kids, thinking we'd just see the animals really quickly. But, we ended up spending over 4 hours! We ate breakfast at the Overends Kitchen, and it was fantastic! Then we watched them collect chicken eggs and milk cows. So cool!! Then we walked around visiting adorable cows, calves, sheep, donkeys, and sheep! There were beautiful flower gardens and amazing trails that were so fun with the kids! They also had a fun playground!! There were so many other things to enjoy here that we didn't get to, but we absolutely loved our visit. We wish we lived in the area so we could visit more!

Great location just over 5 minutes stroll from Dundrum shopping centre and the luas stop. It began with a cupcake, ( it was awesome) then continued with rain. Luckily I was well prepared with wellies and waterproofs......... for the child. I unfortunately looked like a dog who fell in a well by the end of the day. The chickens were first and full of life and head bobbing joy, then on to the calves. This is where the fun started. My daughter began to harass the young things to say moo..... "SAY MOO COWS!!!! SAYYYY MOOOOOOOO" they proceeded to chew and blink............unimpressed. Everybody else however got a few giggles out of it. Then the pigs. Where the girl said " DO NOT under any circumstances put your fingers in. pigs WILL EAT that meat." My fearless soldier girl promptly put her entire hand in and started stroking the BIG and I mean BIG mammy pigs head whilst I nearly took a heart attack pulling her hand back out. Then the goats were the best part........... it was raining heavily by now.... there was no shelter nearby........ but giving the goats grass from our hands was the only thing she wanted to do, not even the lure of the ever amazing Mcdonalds could pull the 2 year old away from the beasts. All in all twas an odd day but I loved it! They also had some beautiful gardens and displays...... Well worth a visit for all the family members...... unless they are on a spring cleaning blitz. Then leave them at home, it worked for me!

Thank you for the recommendation, Fodor's! We were running out of time on our hunt to find them when I realized, 'I've got my trusty guidebook!!' And that's how we ended up here. It was 12 Euros for 6 oysters and a glass of wine. Since there were four of us, the lady was nice enough to give us 4 cups of wine (yes, plastic cups - it's a farmer's market, what do you expect!) They even threw in an extra oyster! SO FRESH! SO BIG! (cue that's-what-she-said joke). Compared to NYC oysters, these babies looked like they were on steroids! They also have this dipping sauce (had onions and was really vinegar-y, but good. But if you don't like the sour, you should just take the oyster straight.) Didn't eat anything else from other stands because we just had lunch. However, I believe they had shish kebabs, crepes, and bread. Oh and FYI - Sheridans Cheesemongers was there (saw this place on Anthony Bourdain when he went to Dublin so thought this might be worth mentioning). Definitely check out this farmer's market!
