Cumberland Mountain State Park is a state park that encompasses and surrounds the man-made Byrd Lake. The area was undeveloped until a project was initiated by the government for 150 impoverished families during the Great Depression. This particular land was deeded to Tennessee in 1938. Today, it has 1,700 acres, a gold course, 37 cabins, over 100 campsites, a swimming pool, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, fishing, a tower overlook, boating, mountain bike trails, a gift shop, a restaurant, an amphitheater, and hiking trails: the Byrd Creek Trail (2 miles), the Byrd Lake Trail (.5 mile), the Cumberland Plateau Trail (.85 mile), the Overnight Trail (5.95 miles), the Pioneer Trail (2.55 miles), and the Pioneer Short Loop Trial (a 1.8 mile loop). We didn't hike because it was raining. It was empty, also because it was raining. But as we drove around and scoped out the park, we saw SO MUCH WILDLIFE. Which was insanely cool. I've been before for a weekend long rock-climbing workshop. I look forward to coming back!

The cabins need repairs. Wallpaper is gross and pealing off the wall. Ants are everywhere in cabin 27. Water leaks around skylights.

Pretty nice park. The Bridge / Damn is pretty cool. Lake area is nice, however everything was closed as far as boat rental, etc. Thought it kind of petty that you would have to purchase a permit to canoe, kayak, or boat... only $5 extra but it is the point. Seems like it should be opened back up after Easter. Trails were nicely kept. At the office, the bathrooms were clean, plus there were people to ask questions.

We stayed in the Mill House Cabin for two nights. The falling water next to the cabin will soon have you sleeping peacefully. Recently renovated we enjoyed many perks including the restaurant, just a short walk away. I hope your stay allows you to participate in the Ranger classes offered in the park. My favorite included a live owl. It was just a hoot! Take in Byrd Lake trail early in the morning.

Had a beautiful time here on our summer ending vacation to Tennessee. Loved the outdoors feel way better than staying in a hotel. I'm also not into camping, this was pretty much in between tenting and a hotel. I thoroughly enjoyed it. We rented the mill house for two nights. This place has two large bedrooms with multiple bunk beds in them, two bathrooms, a large dining room area, and a small kitchen. This is the only unit on the premises without air conditioning. No big deal we're semi camping right. Each room with bunk beds would sleep at least 8 people. This is a nice option if you have a huge group and are looking to split costs. Outside of the Millhouse we had a nice grill and fire pit area. Directly behind the house was a waterfall and small Creek. Sleeping at night I really loved the sound of the water extremely relaxing. Didn't really do much on site. But there is multiple restaurants, Trails for hiking, and a large in-ground beautiful looking swimming pool. And I mean large. Camp store sells firewood and snacks. Wood was $5 a bundle. Loved it here definitely planning a return trip with more people for next summer.

There is no doubt that this is the nicest state park we have ever visited. The setting is beautiful and just about every amenity possible in a state park is here. There's a gorgeous campground for RVs and cabins. Plus, there's a beautiful river where you can rent boats and kayaks. If that isn't enough stop by the huge swimming pool and take a dip. Afterwards, a wonderful restaurant is available with a very nice buffet. We saw several people with fishing poles in the river and others taking off for a hike on the many trails. This park is definitely as good as it gets.

Beautiful Park found in Crossville, Tn. The park is pretty big, has some walking trails, a restaurant and a small museum that shows a little bit of the history of the development of the park. The bathrooms are clean and it's just a great place to go get some fresh air!

My husband and I got out of the city (Nashville) for a few hours and ventured to Cumberland Mountain State Park for a hike! We did the Pioneer Short Loop Trail (1.8 miles) because it provides access to the Pioneer Loop Trail (2.55 miles), which added up to a great length hike - and a really pretty one, too! (The only long hike in the park is the Overnight Trail, but extending the Pioneer Short Loop Trail to the Pioneer Loop Trail added up to about 4 miles, which was perfect for us.) The hike was beautiful! The trails we hiked follow Byrd Creek, so you're along water almost the entire hike. The water was really high when he hiked (late March), so it was gorgeous: streams, little falls, tons of rhododendron! The hike was definitely one of the prettiest I've hiked in a state park in Tennessee. My only qualms about the park is the signage. I wish it was easier to find the hiking trails (the signs in the park seemed to mark everything but the trailheads), and there was a point on the Pioneer Loop Trail where we lost the trail (it's towards the halfway point and you end up on a road and we didn't know where to catch the trail again - we had to ask someone - you do hike on the road for a minute and then there's an access point back to the trail on the left side of the road). But it was a beautiful hike, and we thoroughly enjoyed getting out of the city and enjoying the nature/sites Cumberland Mountain State Park had to offer! Check it out!

Beautiful park to go to when it is Autumn. The weather was amazing and the view from the bridge was even more amazing. You can see below the bridge opposite of the lake and did a little climbing to take some pictures of the lake!

What a beautiful park. I absolutely fell in love with the bridge and lake. It mixed so well with the gorgeous fall day and peak foliage the day my husband and I were visiting. As this was just a little day trip, we were not camping. We also didn't try the restaurant, so I can't comment on either of those except to say it looks like a wonderful place to camp and the restaurant looks lovely from the outside.

While I was walking off the bus I broke my arm because this place is too lazy to replace the bumpy parking lot. I am not happy!

So when we became aware of various Membership Lots for sale , we reached out to one of the owners looking to sell his membership. We were referred to the volunteer Membership Chairperson who sent us an application and told us we would need to attend an interview with other member participants and sit through an orientation process to be sure we understood the campground rules and regulations and had reviewed the bylaws. The Membership Chairperson was very helpful communicating with us through the application process and being flexible with the scheduling of our membership interview. After our interview / orientation meeting was over we finalized the deal with the listing member and waited for all receipts to clear before our membership transferred hands. We had the opportunity to meet and visit with several members in the community. We found the various members to be very friendly and welcoming. Most are visible from overlooks with short hikes, and for the more adventurous, there are treks to the bottom of the namesake falls, a cable trail (bring leather gloves, carabiner, possibly climbing gear) to Rockhouse Falls, or longer trails like the Paw Paw loop, Overlook trail, or even the Prater Place for a hidden Hemlock Falls. I also stayed in the lodge, which was fantastic! The rooms were well equipped, comfortable, and had great features like balconies. The view at the restaurant over the lake was beautiful, especially at sunset. The fisherman style cabins have decks literally on the water, so that looked like a must see at some point, too!!
