Pastor Ralph dives deep into The Word, always pointing us to Jesus and God's redemptive plan. Victory also has wonderful children's, teen and young adults ministries, meaningful community outreach, including a food pantry that blesses HUNDREDS of families, and great member fellowship. The congregation is a representation of the surrounding area. Any race, ethnicity or nationality you see around town, you will probably see here, so please don't think this church is segregated, as many tend to be. We even have a great non-hearing community, and ASL at every service! If you watch online, you will be blown away when you attend in person and see what you're missing. The camera simply can not capture the love, the passion, the sound, the beauty of this historic sanctuary, and the presence of The Spirit of God that stirs throughout the building! UPDATE: This is now my beloved church home. I already know so many of our members, and have formed true friendships with ladies I now consider sisters. You must come visit and please stop in at the cafe before and/or after service for a cup of coffee, a snack, and big family vibes! You will lose count of all the warm smiles and greetings you receive. And we are a fervently praying family. You will never feel like we're putting on a show, or ticking boxes off a checklist. Ok, I am not reviewing this incredible church for the work it does in missions nor for its worship…read moreservices ... I am reviewing their GOURMET RESTAURANT! Yes, a church with a classic gourmet restaurant whose prix fix meals are extraordinary! Truth it, this restaurant only opens 3 or 4 times a year ... it is called THE MISSIONS RESTAURANT and the profits support mission projects locally, nationally, and internationally. This past Saturday night's funds were used to support two local families dealing with devastating illnesses. So the bonus of the delicious food was the cause ... $40 gave me a place at the table for the evening. The church does a remarkable job of transforming their church hall into a special dining area. Salvatore, the maitre d, greets you as you enter verifying your reservation with warm conversation. As he takes you to your well appointed table you notice the lighting and you hear some remarkable soft jazz being played on the piano in the background. CLASS PURE CLASS. The wait staff has obviously been well trained ... this is not your ordinary church pot luck dinner ... this could get you one of those Michelin's if they came through town ... our young waitress checked our options for the appetizer and entrees of the evening offering to answer any questions. With polite rapidity the glasses were filled and the evening began. The Amuse-Bouche was absolutely incredible (I would want this as an entree)! It was a duck Chateaubriand with a black currant Cumberland sauce. Perfectly prepared ... here it is two days later and that is my mouth drooling at the memory of that succulent meat. There were two appetizer options but those at my table all joined with me for the Trio of the Sea, which offered pan seared tarragon pesto stuffed scallop with beurre blanc, lump crab-cake with a spicy lime mayonnaise, and shrimp Saltimbocca witha Riesling demi glaze. Strong arguments were made for both the melt away scallop and the truly tasty shrimp as the winners with the crab-cake being just as good. Others in the dining room chose a Pappardelle Forestiere for their appetizer with a savory thick pasta perfectly matched with exotic mushrooms, tomatoes, radicchio, and yellow peppers in a sweet herb sauce. The Missions' Salad just might have been the best course of the night of delite. It was built on baby greens with amazing roasted shaved fennel drizzled with a Cara Cara Orange vinaigrette, some candied black pepper bacon, and topped with a warm goat cheese mascarpone puff pastry crouton. Can you say MMMMMM with me? The entrees included: BRAISED SHORT RIBs (my choice) with a hoisin and honey glaze served with wasabi garlic mashed potatoes, and sauteed shanghai bok choy. *A perfectly tasty blend with beef that melted in your mouth! MISSIONS SHRIMP that found the shrimp stuffed with LUMP CRAB meat and perfectly seated in a lemon scampi butter sauce with green beans and jasmine rice. *Those enjoying this entree absolutely loved the shrimp but found the rice rather taste-less, the only complaint of the evening. FREE RANGE CHICKEN POIREAU that had the pan seared chicken breast stuffed with leeks and served with a date, cherry, lemon thyme cous cous, broccoli rabe, and accented with a Sabayon sauce. * No one at our table chose this but there was no mystery about how good it was because we could hear the comments and see the smiles of those who made this their chocie. Ahhh Dessert. Central's pastry chef has created many delicious meal finishers in the past and tonight joined the hall of fame because the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Coffee ice cream and whipped cream were so so good but that added delicious coffee toffee fudge was one of those ... moments ... you know what I mean. Too good to be true. So, I waddled away from a gourmet meal at a church ... the next MISSIONS RESTAURANT night is in June ... call 609-927-4882 for information ... book early ... exercise ahead ... and enjoy! The OC Tabernacle has become a standard part of our week at OC for years...check into the house…read moreSaturday, visit the Tabernacle Sunday, usually before my feet have even had a chance to hit sand. Yes, the tabernacle is a Sunday morning Church service; an informal service is held at 8 AM on the beach/boards, and the regular service is at 10:30. The tabernacle brings in guest pastors weekely; to my knowledge, there is no head pastor, but rather a Board of Trustees who selects known ministers from around the country to come and preach...and yes, generally, they are very good, providing a solid Biblical message. Rarely do I walk away without a few good points to ponder. The music is a blend of hymns (2, this week) and contemporary...this past week, there were two- count 'em, two- praise bands who were likewise visiting. The music- both familiar P&W and originals- were also great, upbeat. That's for the adults; for the kids, great programs abound. The nursery is very cool...built like an ark- and security is good, and buzzer pagers are provided if a child's parents need to leave the service. Programs for the older kids, provided through 7th grade, made my son exclaim "that was a great class" as he held up his prize, a big kit kat. Also, VBS is provided through the summer, often during the first week of July. Coffee and pastry after the service is always welcome! The new youth center built two or three years ago is also a youth conference center, available for churches to rent and utilize throughout the year. It apparently gets used well, at they have started using it to host movies Saturday nights at 10:30 to give kids somewhere to go. Finally, the property is used on Wednesdays for crafts and a farmer's market. The anchor out front is symbolic in many ways, but the way this organization dynamically anchors OC and provides for the community is impressive. Not to take anything away from other local churches who operate year round, but the tabernacle definitely fills a niche for the weekly renters...a welcoming place to come and be fed, a home while away from home.

It draws a younger crowd than Ocean Grove. I saw Charles Stanley there. It started as Methodist but is now interdenominational. The Christian faith has many varieties like dog breeds but we are all the same as far as fundamental beliefs. Kind of like dogs are all the same only different breeds. I am sure it is all the same to God they are just human distinctions anyway. The Tabernacle has block parties, vacation bible school a choir, concerts, plays,youth ministry, special guest speakers, and other ministries The services are streaming live on TV and the radio and the web site. http://www.octabernacle.org/LiveStream.php It is nice to be able to worship at the beach and even hear speakers I am familair with so far from home but it seemed to be a little more social and less spiritual than I am used to. But it is a nice experience in the summer if in Ocean City!
