The roast beef was tough, barely warm and tasted microwaved like they broke out a box of pre-prepped beef. What a disappointment. We should have stayed with the pub side of the house for half the price.

We were given a room on the second floor over looking the side garden and it was perfect. It was so quiet, with a long interior hall that set it back from the other rooms. The bathroom and hallway were a few steps above the main bedroom, make the bedroom feel like a separate space. There was lots of natural light, especially in the bathroom. The bathroom had the added bonus of a heated towel rack and heated floors. It was clean, spacious and modern. I loved the room! I also really enjoyed the downstairs lounge area, where we sat and used the free-wifi, another big bonus. This hotel isn't close to a lot, so it feels like a big escape from outside life. It's relaxing! I thought that the breakfast that was included was really nice. They served great locally made yogurt and a full cooked breakfast. We has the Sunday Roast in the bar, which led to a funny story. On the written hotel survey, I wrote that the "beef was a little fatty". I'm sure that they think I'm a crazy American, because my English husband got a good laugh and informed me that I had been eating lamb, not beef. It was the joke of the trip. The staff was nice, but a little overwhelmed. They had just hired a bunch of new employees from Australia and we were there on their first week, while they were still getting the hang of things. They were all very friendly and trying their best, but we had to wait a long time for things and there were a few mix-ups. Nothing that was a big deal though. This is a wonderful hotel in a very beautiful location. I highly recommend staying here!

There was an a la carte menu available and an early-bird menu of two courses for £9.95. This consisted of half a dozen starters and 7 main courses and eight sweets. I had chicken breast in pepper sauce on mash with 'roasted medeterranian vegetables' followed by chocolate brownie cheesecake. I was rather freaked out when, waking at 2am, wanting a cigarette, I left my room to find the whole place in darkness.The next day I found out that I could have set the burglar alarm off by going out the front door to have a fag and that I should have waited until this morning. Breakfast was available between 7am and 9am. This consisted of the normal cafetier of coffee or pot of tea, cereal (8 types in mini-packs) orange juice, bowl of chopped melon. There was the option of a Full English or a 'Light Bite' of five options including smoked salmon and scrambled egg, which was tastey, but a bit rich (with the amount of cream in it) at breakfast. The garden is a lovely place to sit. Small birds seemed to be nesting all over the place.

Our rooms, which were on the 2nd floor, were immaculate and very comfortable. The breakfast, with the wonderful Cumberland sausages, was very tasty and filling. My only complaint was that if your room is on the top floor, there is no lift, and you have to carry your luggage up 2 flights of stairs. Were were traveling over a 3-week period, so ours was heavy and bulky, making it difficult to get our things to our rooms. And there was no one to help with this. I would stay here again, but definitely request a room on the first floor.

They work it to uncommon levels not found in most others and that sets them apart uniquely. It is like how specialized in certain areas of hospitality the game reserve/wildlife park resorts/inns/bed and breakfast places are. There are also a variety of treetop hotels around the world that have their own charm as do the beach resorts/bungalows and such at various locations. The one thing that these two Glenburn hotels don't share in common is the English countryside on the one hand and the Himalayan Mountain Range (Mt.Everest) piercing the skies on the other. Fog is common at both, which I always like for one reason or another. Both must visit/experience special destinations, without question. One of my fave Uncles, a really jovial and witty guy was director of the Darjeeling Zoological/wildlife Park, back in the day. He was,among other things known for a project he developed and saw to fruition. Saving the rare Blood Pheasant. He decided Glenburn was ideal for them to propagate, and so it was as well, as it turned out happily. So there is another tidbit to have for over the 'Cuppa' or 'Hocuppa' tea as they call it in some parts of England. Conversation/Chit-Chat and so on, you know. Yes indeed,all that great stuff that's more and more hard to come by these days and when it does, it's all the more special and is stuff that dreams are made of.

We arrived to a group of people in the parking lot who were pointing up in the sky and hollering. It was the freakin' international space station just casually above us! Cross that off the bucket list. The Queens Head is a pub that serves incredible food on the bottom, and a hotel on top. The pub was the most gorgeous English pub I've ever been in. After a fire years ago, it was redone and was incredibly cozy and chic. We were sat next to a blazing fire, there were blankets scattered around, and they had created little sitting nooks within the stone walls. I was in love before we even ordered anything. We got a round of gin and rhubarb tonics that came with fresh fruit in them. Because we were with locals from the village, they knew to ask the owner to come over and tell us about the building's history. He came over with old pictures, stories and incredible facts for us. He even took us upstairs to show us the magnificent hotel rooms (for reasonable prices too). The best part?! The queen apparently slept in one of the four post beds before the fire hit years ago, and the bed was one of the few that was saved after the fire. The headboard of the bed was then used to build the bar in the downstairs pub. It's ornate and beautiful. We ordered our food and I got pasta carbonara. It was delicious and the seafood specials sounded amazing as well. This place is high on my list to bring my family to if they ever come visit with us!

Would've been 5 but the wasps ruined it!…read more Sounds a bit silly doesn't it but the wasps were literally the only bad point about our visit to Beech Hill Hotel! This was the first stop of my birthday weekend planned by my girlfriend and we were here for the afternoon tea. The offerings of the tea itself were great, a nice selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes all with a huge pot of English tea! Now, the views - they are spectacular and you probably can't beat these views to sit and enjoy a drink on the balcony! We had a good 30 minutes outside but then the wasps attacked and we had to go back in to sit on the extremely comfy sofas! I can't speak for the hotel itself in regards to rooms - but for a traditional, enjoyable and good value afternoon tea - Beech Hill is a good bet!

Inside is quite modern and appointed quite well. The breakfast area, dining room, is a little older and not very fancy, however the food is delicious. Breakfast offers all possible options and really is terrific. I would highly recommend this location and hope to return on a future trip.

The building is beautifully renovated with classy modern decor, airy and bright. We booked the most expensive room, a lake view room with balcony for 250 British Pounds per night, including breakfast. The balcony overlooks fields used for sheep grazing. We enjoyed being close to all the birds and the flock of 20 to 30 sheep. The man who cared for the sheep had a dog who helped round up the animals. It felt like we were living on a working farm, and we loved it. The room was spacious and modern with a very nice bathroom. The in-room coffeemaker was a fancy model, too complicated for me to use, even after the staff gave me two demonstrations on how to brew the coffee. Apparently my Masters degree is not adequate for this task. In the room we could clearly hear every step people took in the room above, but luckily it was a quiet couple in that room, so not a big issue. The dining facilities and bar at the hotel are beautiful and spacious, with lots of windows, views, and natural light. The decor is modern and tasteful and there is an open kitchen, making it more interesting. Breakfast was done very well, offering a combination of buffet service and waitress service. You can eat indoors or outside on a lovely patio. It should be noted that views of the lake are minimal. You can only see a very small portion of the lake from the hotel, and there is no lake access from the hotel property. Nevertheless, we were more than satisfied with the views -- mountains and farm fields, all lush and green. The hotel is not in the town center. It is on the edge of the village, just a 2-minute walk to shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel.
