My son has gone to this school for four years. The last two years have been amazing because we had…read morethe most incredible teacher. Mrs. Chavez taught my son so much in the 3 & 4 grade. We were lucky enough to have her twice since she moved from third to fourth. She would spend her lunch time tutoring my son when he needed just a little more help. She genuinely cares about her students and it shows. My son asked her to move to the fifth grade so he could have her again. I wish we would have been so lucky in the first and second grade. It wasn't the best experience. I feel my son did not mesh well with the teachers and they were very LONG years! Mrs. Bryant was the most amazing Resource Teacher. She was patient, caring, and made herself available when my kids needed some extra help. Mrs. Bryant would give my girls their assignments and then look them over at our next appointment time. This school offers many Enrichment classes such as Math, Art, Music, Literature, basically for all classes. I hear now they even have Agriculture for the kids. I really liked the Enrichment classes because it gets your child out of the house for awhile and interact with other kids. I was very happy with the field trips offered each year. Science Museum, Calm, Red Rock Canyon, Camp Keep, and many more. They recently bought Carden Schools property on Brian way. It will be nice when they are finished with that. This school is K-12 and you pick your own curriculum. Also a great thing they offer is you can sign your child up for Vendor Services such as Gymnastics, Dancing, Equestrian Club to name a few. The AV Wall is a half-scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial Wall in Washington D.C., and it is a mobile Vietnam war memorial that can be easily viewed by residents within Southern California. Check out their website at www.avwall.org. It is only displayed a small number of times each year, and display locations can be found on their website. There is also an option to donate to this worthy cause through their website. In observance of Veterans Day this year, I chose to visit the AV Wall at Westpark Elementary School as my way of showing kindness, admiration and respect for our Veterans. In my opinion, nothing is more honorable than a person willing to serve their country for the benefit of all those within it. While visiting, I met some kind individuals who were volunteers for this display, all of whom have served their country. I enjoyed just standing there while listening to their experiences, some fascinating and some tragic, with the magnificence of this awesome memorial as a background. If you have the ability to check out this tribute, please do so. If you miss this temporary display at Westpark Elementary, and you live in Southern California, then be sure to check out the AV Wall website for future viewing opportunities. Cesar Chavez is a wonderful Magnet School. The Magnet program here is for the Sciences. It is a K…read morethrough 6 elementary school and one of the highest rated in town. They bus kids in from all over the place for the Magnet, but the wait list is long, so sign up early (like seriously at birth) to ensure your kid a spot. My daughter did Transitional kinder here with Mrs. Furr, and this year tested at 2nd grade level in reading and 1st grade level in math. Last year I would pick her up from Magnet and she would teach me all about bats, snakes, the water cycle, insects, you name it. It was wonderful to pick her up everyday and see the happiness on her face. The teachers and staff really love the kids and care about their education and development. I can't say enough good things about the school. It is a wonderful and safe place to educate your child and I recommend it highly.
