I'm surprised to read some of the negative reviews on Yelp because my experience with Cunningham was entirely positive! The estimate process was pleasant and efficient. But more importantly, on the day of the move, the guys were fantastic--fast, professional, careful, and nice. Moving day can be such a drag, but these guys made it easy! read more

We used Cunningham for a move from our storage locker to our condo. The storage space was 10x10x10 and contained mid century modern furniture, original paintings, breakable dishes, lamps, etc. We were so impressed with their knowledge of how to wrap things and pack them on dollies to get them easily to the truck. The whole locker was empty in 2 hours. They were great in placing things in the correct new rooms and even helped put a couple of pieces together. This took about 3 hours. We would definitely use Cunningham again. read more

The price changes. You have to get it in writing, firmly, regardless of what they claim later. They will still try to charge more at the end. Stick to your written price. They are relatively careful, but these are not the movers for fine art or objects. They do reasonable packing, and seem to have experience. Most things arrived in one piece, but not all. Unfortunately, it seems that you have to watch anything fragile or outsized. There was too much negotiation in timing, too many untrue claims of things not mentioned. Overall a lot of trouble, but we do not have experience with other movers of this type to compare, and that is why two not one star. read more

The person who came to do the estimate was very professional and was on time. As many others before me mentioned, the point-of-contact person did not get back to me with the estimate as promised. This seems to be a big issue for them. When you call them, most of the time the phone just keeps ringing and no one will answer; when they finally do, they rush to hang up the phone with you. They tell me several times that the order will be sent via email within that business day and that did not happen at all. I called several times a day to harass them in order to get things moving. These movers are so wonderful. I had to move apartments 10 days after having a baby and they made the move extremely easy and stress free. Kathleen and Martin in the office are so accommodating. Mario and his team were quick and so friendly. In addition, we needed to hoist a table up two floors through a window. Victor, Juan and Lea got the table through the window in under and hour without a second of worry. Overall, it's nice to have such friendly people around during a stressful time. I'm not sure how how any of my moving experiences could have been any better. Mr. Cunningham has been charming and professional each of the three times I've used his service. Kathleen, the woman I spoke to most often on the phone should give seminars on how to be friendly, professional and astonishingly helpful when you provide customer service on the phone. She really is a breath a freash air. She's even fabulous in person! The crew always showed up on time, was extremely patient and organized and never complained about my very complicated move...items gpoing to 3 addresses...some into storage...delivery one month later. Rocky was my crew boss on all my moves. Knows his job, does it well, has a sense of humor. Well done you, Rocky. And they executed my very complicated move for one third less then the other company who quoted the job. I think the people who wrote negative reviews of Cunningham must have been dealing with a different moving company then the Cunningham movers I'm yelping about. These guys were the best. read more

I won't disagree with people who give them less stars than me since every moving experience is different. However in my case, my 2 moves (in less than 3 months) with Cunningham went pretty smoothly and they actually exceeded my expectations. We used them the first time to take our stuff to storage for a couple months while we were looking for a place to buy. Man this was a 5-star one. They gave an estimate that was pretty reasonable showed up on time and most importantly didn't go over what they quoted. They packed everything beyond impeccably and moved a lot of bulky stuff without damaging neither the furniture nor the apartment. I must say I was totally impressed and it was well worth the money. The second time, the move itself went just as well as the first one, although it was a bit more stressful since it was into our newly acquired, freshly painted home, and there again the movers were beyond amazing. It's the pre-moving events were a little bit more chaotic. They didn't show up for the quote the day they were supposed to, and after we could finally meet it took the longest time and numerous phone calls for them to finally give me a quote, which is why I only give 4 stars. That said, overall, both moves were seemless and their movers were nice, careful and extra professional which is what matters the most. In addition these guys give you estimates and they don't even think of trying to make you pay more than what they quoted originally. We will definitely use them again. read more

My move from San Francisco to St. Louis started off well. The folks at Cunningham were responsive and helpful, and the movers were incredibly careful and meticulous. After my stuff was packed and taken away, though, the customer service stopped. Cunningham contracts with Arpin Van Lines to do the actual shipping. When it became clear that the shipment would not arrive within the 2 week delivery window Cunningham quoted and guaranteed me, there was no accountability. Cunningham never had any information for me, and it took repeated phone calls and emails to even get a response from them let alone have them look into my shipment. Then somehow Cunningham deemed it MY responsibility to interact with Arpin. Finally, nearly a month after my stuff was packed up in SF, it arrived nearly a week late, without an apology or compensation of any kind. I will say, though, that as I unpacked the boxes it was clear that the packers had done an excellent, careful job. If you have flexibility in delivery time, then I would recommend Cunningham. read more

We used Paul Arpin Van Lines in conjunction with Cunningham movers for an intrastate move and they were horrible. 1) They sent out the wrong sized truck and couldn't fit all of our belongings. 2) The driver and his helpers were yelling at each other in front of our apartment all day long 3) The overflow that did not fit on a truck they piled sky high in a pick up truck to get back to the warehouse and damanged some of our goods. 4) The overflow arrived two weeks later than our other belongings and Paul Arpin Van Lines kept making excuses for how long it would take to arrive and ultimately never took any responsibility for all of the things that went wrong Nothing went right with this move and there is really no healthy recourse to file claims for most of the issues we had. They were rude and uncommunicative and I would never use them or cunningham movers again read more

My wife and I used them before so we contacted them for this move. Their quote was over $3K including a $250 "handling" fee for storage. I got a quote from Pay Ryan and it was $1400 - less than half the price. When I called back Cunningham they immediately said they would match the price and drop the $250 "fee" for storage. Not sure why they padded their quote - maybe because we were return customers they thought they could pull a fast one... read more

I had a great experience with Cunningham. Everyone there was nice and professional. The movers, Rocky, Seau, and Paolo were prompt, fast and careful. The estimate was very reasonable. The movers worked so fast they beat the estimate. They managed to get a huge couch down a narrow staircase. They will also store your furniture indefinitely in large crates. Cunningham Moving and Storage: Deal with this Company at your own risk! We recently asked Cunningham Moving and Storage to take out of storage and deliver to us at a local address a number of items of office and home furnishings that we had stored with them over the last few months. What we were delivered, in turn, was nothing but shattered or destroyed furniture and other personal effects. It even appeared that our articles of furniture may have either been vandalized or were purposely damaged beyond repair, as there were steel file cabinets that were bent or torqued completely out of shape as to be totally unusable; a 100 year-old dresser that was shattered into splinters; deep gouges and scratches into wood surfaces, and drawers ripper out of its frame, from a solid wood, office desk and credenza set; three legs completely severed from a large coffee table (and not returned); and most surprising, a 5-6" slash through a family treasured, 3' x 5' original oil painting on canvas, where it looked liked someone had taken a knife to the canvas in order to purposely vandalize or destroy it. When confronted with all this damage, Cunningham's only reply was to tell us to submit a claim that they would give to their insurance company. We quickly submitted a detailed three-page claim, and after about a month, their insurance company responded with a $300 suggested re-imbursement settlement for all of our damage goods. We totally rejected that re-imbursement suggestion, and in turn, went to our own insurance company instead, submitted the exact same claim that was submitted to Cunningham; and shortly received instead a 5-figure, cash settlement for all the damage done to our goods by Cunningham. In my opinion, anyone who does business with these people should have their head examined. read more

The owner was a character, but professional. This was an expensive mover, but heard many positive reviews, so we spent the money from Emeryville to the city. The crew was hard working, efficient, and pretty friendly. But they were not as careful with things as I would have thought, and solid wood furniture got chipped and or scratched (that they wrapped). I am guessing that the person loading the truck left to many gaps, so that things fell on the drive). Following up with them has been a circus. The person who handles claims is there "just once a week", and getting her to call back has been really tough. So, my reviews are they are decent, but no bargain. And their customer service skills at the main office leaves a bit to be desired (though the person who handled getting parking permits from the City (SF) for the truck took care of all those details, which was great). read more

Cunningham is one of the best moving companies around. We had to move out of large office and had them come and appraise the items we had, they were very professional and always arrived on time. They worked very efficiently when packing up our new office and were even able to fit everything into less vaults than originally anticipated. They have been excellent when we've needed to access our vaults to find items with last minute notice, and when we had to go through all vaults to move some into our new office, were extremely helpful. We are so pleased with Cunningham Moving & Storage!! We just moved from San Carlos to Santa Rosa, the San Carlos home was a 2 level home plus 18 steps to get to the front door. we had 5 wonderful movers, Rock,Max,Via, Sua & Bernardo. Not only did they finish packing a few things I missed but took extra time to make sure everything was perfectly wrapped and secure before loading into the trucks. Once they arrived at our new home in Santa Rosa they very carefully unloaded and unwrapped each item in a very timely way. Not one thing was harmed or even scratched. They had the best attitude about the job and would and will recommend them to everyone I know.!!!! read more

Charlie Cunningham should be ashamed of himself! He will say "Yes" to anything you ask but will follow through on nothing he committed to. Be sure to get a quote in writing, else you will find yourself paying quite a bit more than quoted. Do yourself a favor and find one of many other available, reputable movers. But, should you decide to use Cunninghman, make sure that Sua is not on the job. There are a couple of good guys in the crew and they do try their best, Paolo and Max are very professional and hardworking. The rest are more interested in yacking, having a good time and getting out of there as quickly as possible. read more

Cunningham Movers did a great job at our property moving a tenant from unit to another... the tenant had several delicate, vaulable and irreplacable items. Our tenant also was very specific on each item being returned to their original place at the new unit... Cunningham made sure that happened. Moving is hell (or so I thought). Honestly, normally "Family Owned" would scare me. Except that family, Charlie Cunningham, came out to give me an estimate and damned if he wasn't just like my father (except slightly cooler and knowing a hell of a lot more about moving). He's Irish as anything and was a little late getting to my house. But he's been in the business for 40 years (a fact he repeated several times). He told me exactly how much stuff I had, how much packing I needed (and how to save money?!? by packing some of my books and clothes myself). Then he gave me a cost to move out of my old place (staircases, hairpin turns and all) and into my new one (If you want to see an impressive picture of moving in SF, check out their website under the 'residential move' tab). And the cost was LESS than expected. LESS??? The guys were friendly, polite, fast, and strong (no clue how they carried that bed that way, but hey. I was ready to fork out, and didn't have to. There weren't problems, the people in the office were friendly, and the guys did a wonderful job. Charlie was honest, the men were good. Nothing but praise from me, and - hey - as a bonus, I now have good Irish stories about moving around San Francisco from the past 40 years. read more

This company undersold the job then the movers blamed me because they did not get paid overtime. They gouged a $2000 cherry wood dining room table, scratched all 6 chairs and pushed an eliptical through a 6-panelled door. Anything that did not fit through a doorway, they forced through, splintering the door frames. My 6 month old stainless steel refrigerator suffered 2 gouges to the front panels and a line from front to back on the side panel as they forced it through my front door because they did not want to take the time to take the handles off. I will not even go into the wall damage. DO NOT HIRE THEM. THEY SUB CONTRACT TO HILL MOVING AND STORAGE AND PRIDE MOVING AND STORAGE. NONE OF THESE COMPANIES TOOK RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGES. 20 months ago (November 2018) when Cunningham delivered our possessions to our new home I wrote a review describing how they had "pulled a switch" on their quoted prices. It wasn't, however, until I unpacked all the boxes that I realized that several dozen books from a very prized cookbook collection were missing (in addition to the broken and other lost items I received). I reported the loss and was told it was just not possible as all the boxes had been checked off. Anyone who has ever made a move knows there is no way one home owner can check off lists as boxes are brought in by four or five moving men in a hurry. I knew my collection so well that I was able to generate detailed lists of the missing books but was told it was not true, that I was basically a liar and trying to put one over on this (very deceptive) company. Not the end of the story. Last week, 20 months after the fact, I received a call that three cartons of books had been found. Though I am thankful that they had the decency to return my books, I received no apology, no offer of recompense for the money I had to put out to replace these much used and valued books. A word of warning: not only do you have to be very careful about your financial arrangements with these tricky guys but you have to wonder how a reliable moving company can misplace three very heavy boxes and treat YOU like less than honest. read more

I have used Cunningham moving & Storage and was very happy with the movers. Rocky, Mario, and Simone worked quite quickly to unload my furniture and boxes out of three storage units and consolidate items I wasn't moving into one storage unit. They then unloaded things into my house and were careful not to damage the door frames and floors. They unwrapped and assembled my furniture. They completed the job earlier than scheduled. They had great attitudes and were polite. Rocky did a great job leading the crew. My only issue was the time the movers were supposed to arrive was not communicated to me by the company. After leaving messages and not getting a reply, I made a guess and it just happened to work out. read more

Cunningham Moving & Storage was in charge of packing my belongings, storing them for 1 year and then shipping to London, UK. They have stolen (or lost) my most expensive items to include a beautiful rug and a brand new Pottery Barn bed cover and blanket. These items were the most valuable and the largest in size. They charged me about $3,000 for shipping and offered $90 to compensate for the losses, even though the items were listed on their inventory list. They are not trustworthy and I don't recommend this company to anyone. read more

You can't go wrong with Cunningham Moving & Storage. I recently bought a new house and, due to circumstances beyond my control, was not clear on when I would be able to move in. Kathleen couldn't have been nicer each time I called to change my moving date.....and I called three times. When movng day finally arrived the very professional crew showed up on time and carefully wrapped and loaded my belongings onto the truck. Everything showed up at my new house in perfect shape. Rocky and his crew made sure every box and piece of furniture was in the correct room, re-assembled everything and cleaned up all the empty boxes and packing material before leaving. This moving company is exceptional! From the first point of contact (Kathleen), to Michelle who came out to bid my job, to the amazing movers Max and Mario! I used this company to move out the furniture in my home to pull out my carpet flooring. It became a much bigger project then expected and Cunningham Moving Company were kind and extremely professional making what was a big task, a very easy one! When they moved me back in, Max and Mario went out of their way to make sure that the newly painted walls and refinished floors were always protected in the move! We remodeled our upper floor and had to move out all the items (my wife's terminology)/ junk (my teminology). Although a small job (wife's term) huge job (my term), Cunningham came out and gave us an estimate. The price was less than I thought it would be. Their workers were neat and polite and very helpful. Cunningham Movers came highly recommended by my Realtor, however despite the 5 star cost, I did not have the promised 5 star experience . I did some of my packing and Cunningham did the rest. On packing day, I was concerned as the packers were not handling my things with as much care as I expected. I have moved many times to have considerable experience with both packers and movers. I put my things in storage for 9 months at $420 per month storage fees. When my things came out of storage, there was some damage. One antique Chinese seed pot, valued at $500, was completely shattered when I opened the box that Cunningham packed. My wooden sleigh bed also had some damage to the finish. And my antique marble marquetry table had tape placed directly on it to hold the glass top. I have not yet been able to get the adhesive off the table. As soon as I recognized the damage, I emailed the owner, Martijn Blumenthal. I was sorely disappointed with his non-existent or slow responses. I had to email him repeatedly. Finally, after over a month, I got a response to yet another query on the status of the claim. He reminded me I opted for .60 cents a pound insurance coverage. Since my seed pot was about 2-3 pounds, I was essentially offered $1-$2 for it. Martijn did offer to fix the bed, but reminded me he was not obligated to, as if he was doing ME a favor. The marble table was just ignored. I understand that I did not opt for a higher level of insurance, however when negligent packing is the cause of damage, I think the only right thing to do it to respond quickly and either repair the damage, or if that isn't possible, reimburse the customer for the damaged item. Customer service at Cunningham gets a 0/5 from me. Unless you are confident you won't have damage, do not use them! read more

Moved from the City to the East Bay at the end of December. They were recommended by our Real Estate Agent. Charlie (Owner) came over and gave us an estimate for the move and 1 month storage not to exceed $2450.00 (My wife was right there also and heard the same promise from Charlie). Everything went smoothly until finished unloading. I was hit with another charge of $1800.00- ($4300.00 for a local move from a 2 Br./1 BA). My brother used Corrib (Excellent Company) with his move out of the lower flat - 2Br./1BA and only pd. $750.00 for a local SF move. I asked to speak with Charlie, he was not available and the dispatcher said the not to exceed was for our move out and 1 month storage. They still charged my credit card they had on file. I have contacted them and am disputing the charge. The Real Estate Company(Largest Co. in the City) told Charlie they would never use or recommend him if he didn't fix. He has not budged. I am filing a BBB complaint. Also filing a claim w/ the CPUC. Use Corrib Moving !!!! 183 Reviews and 5 Stars. Not one complaint. We should have done our homework. read more

Definitely 5 stars. I have a LOT of stuff and a 1 bedroom (but with four rooms + kitchen and bath) apartment. Charlie came and did the estimate and it took around a half hour. He was only a few minutes late and apologized several times that he could not find parking! For packing it was only around $500. He was very thorough and so nice! We were scheduled for a military move through Arpin Van Lines recently. The movers came in and packed our stuff with no problem. THe next day the Arpin Van Lines driver showed up to load our stuff into the truck. We were told that they shipment would be driven to CA from TX and would arrive in less than a week where they would put it into storage until we arrived in CA. When we arrived in CA two weeks later we called the company to schedule deliver only to be told that our household good were STILL in Lubbock, Texas because the driver fell through two weeks ago. We received no notification via email, phone, or other ways to notify us of any problem. Now we have been told that it will be another 15 days till we are able to have our stuff here in CA. How absurd that a company that is GUARANTEED payment by the US Government would do NOTHING to get us our household goods earlier than that when it was their companies fault that it was not here already!! When we asked if there was any way to get it here earlier the lady simply sighed and said "no." It seems hard for me to believe there is only 1 driver who is capable of driving from Texas to California. I will not only be contacting the military moving company regarding this so as to assure no military ever has to deal with this company again but warn anyone that chooses Arpin! They do nothing to offer help to situations that are 100% THEIR FAULT!!! Go with another company!!! read more

This company is amazing! Kathleen, who answers the phones is professional and sweet. The owner, who was professional and personable. came to my home,reviewed what needed to by moved, and gave me an estimate before leaving. The 2 movers came on the scheduled date and were very prompt. When it came time to deliver the furniture to the next destination, they did another walk through then moved it all in the appropriate room AND re-assembled what needed to be re-assembled. The movers were courteous, efficient, and often times funny. Though I don't plan to move again, I would hire this company without further consideration and I have told friends as well. read more
