Very mixed experience…read more Initially we were very impressed with Rob's (Colour Republic) knowledge, recommendations and general guidance on our new kitchen. Colour Republic designed the kitchen and ordered the materials but as they were fully booked up for building work, we used a separate builder (again, very pleased with). All of this was very good and we would 100% recommend based on that experience ... ... However ... when it came to the end of the job and a few snagging problems (e.g. fridge/ freezer door handles too long so banging against walls), it was near impossible to get a response from Rob. Despite trying everything emailing, texting, phoning, leaving voicemails etc, I was only successful in getting a response once ... which was an apology for not responding due to a family grievance! It could be argued that the builders should not have fitted the handles although they fitted what was ordered. However, it was the complete lack of response and customer 'after care' that has left a nasty taste after what we thought was a good working relationship. In the end, we simply gave up trying and still have handles that knock against a wall. If Rob wishes to come up with a solution for this we would still be happy to get this sorted and update the mixed review!

The wait was much longer than we were told but still we were patient.  When the shutters were fitted,  we noticed that the church window's top slat would not open and was permanently closed. We called and the fitter returned,  confirming it was faulty and that new shutters would be ordered. Weeks later, we were told that there was no fault and that we would have to put up with the shutters the way they were despite them reducing light coming in and the fact that it was permanently closed which did not look nice at all. I persisted and for the second time they agreed there was a fault.  A couple if days later, we were again told there was nothing that could be done. Rude and condescending people. Definitely would not recommend,  all is good until something goes wrong. Awful company, terrible customer service.

Although I live in London, they came up for an initial visit to measure our windows and provide a quote. We then were able to choose from a range of styles & colours, which they politely got us to change based on their assessment of our decor, the window and the setting. I must say their recommendations were spot on. The shutters were ready in 4 weeks, and fitted the following week. The products are good quality, being made from American Yellow Poplar and Elm rather than MDF.

I went into Hove Paints to purchase a tin of basic white gloss to get my doors and skirting boards looking a bit newer and felt like I was in the middle of a sitcom. There was a small gang of rosy cheeked, hairy builders sitting around guzzling tea laughing their heads as they poked fun at the shop manager who, while trying to keep a straight face, was very helpful. They cater for trade and DIY here and they do deliver when you order over a certain amount. I love shops like this though as there's always someone around to give you some advice or crack a good joke!

They had a toilet seat with a simple and tasteful summer holiday scene, of beach houses and sea gulls and another which caught my eye, which was transparent and had shells embedded within it. Lots of tasteful and expensive things for your bathroom here too, such as a sleek, chrome, Scandinavian designed toilet cleaner holder.

Jeff's upholsters all furniture's and provides a carpet cleaning service as well. The quality of the work is to a high standard, and some of it can be seen being carried out in the shop, as well as the results of previous work on some of the furniture in the window. One especially beautiful piece of upholstery can be seen on a magnificent and lavish Regency style turquoise and gold chair. Ross's and Sherwood upholstery fabrics are used, which is some of the finest out there.

For those looking for a small piece of flooring for a bathroom or single bedroom, they have a great selection of end of roll carpets and vinyl at the front of the store. These starts around £10 and go up to about £100 with the measurements clearly stated.

In fact, they're the most 'comprehensive wallpaper and fabric library in the South-East' with a library of thousands of designers and styles to choose from. I love the fact that wallpaper is having such a wonderful Renaissance right now, and couldn't resist buying a contemporary speckled gold and green roll to feature a wall in my bedroom. Considering it was screen printed by hand, I think the £60 price tag was rather reasonable.
