This place is the best. It's on the top of my list when I visit Berlin and it never disappoints. They offer several delightful vegan options, the staff is very polite, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Apart from cupcakes, they have enticing brownies (the size of a brick), and mini loaves of carrot cake that are moist and delicious. They have the best vegan desserts I have ever tasted, and I've had a lot. The prices are affordable, too. The prices are also very fair. I would give this place 5 out of 5 but unfortunately half of the staff seem to have an issue with me. Even though I stop in quite often, super quick/easy with my orders, and naturally am as cordial as possible, I get the feeling that some members of staff are often annoyed with me or seem to talk negatively behind my back when they think I'm not looking/listening. Seems to be the staff members who don't seem to want to be there and/or take 3 times as long to help you as the other members of staff. Luckily, the other half of the staff receives a big 5 out of 5+. It's like night and day with the other members of staff. They are so helpful, welcoming, and super friendly. I first heard about Cupcake when a dear friend of mine, who admittedly doesn't "get" what "you people" (referring to vegans) eat brought me a cupcake from here on my birthday. And dang, it was delicious... plain vanilla cake base, with pink frosting and coconut sprinkles. Simply wonderful. So I decided to come here on my own. The store itself is very cute, and for whatever reason (likely because cupcakes are "so American") there are lots of American candies and sodas here. The somewhat downside is that there seems to only be one vegan cupcake option daily, so I went for a chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting. The to-go bags are super cute, which is also a plus. But when I came home and ate it, the cake was only eh. A little dry. And as a connoisseur of vegan baking, and cupcakes in particular, I found that the consistency could be moister... Still, the frosting was awesome (way better than most frosting I make) and the price not too bad. For anyone who needs a cupcake fix - vegan or not - this seems to be the place to go. read more

When you got the crave for sweets, theres nothing that can stop you. So it has attacked me while passing by this store, it's so sweetly designed and the cupcakes are visually stunning- and as I couldn't really find any cupcakes around Berlin (enlighten me please) - I had to check it out and ended up with two cupcakes to go. The cashier was really nice and patient as it took me quite a while to decide which ones I want. So I arrived home and my cupcakes survived to pouring rain, and got to work - they are good, but I had better, the frosting is wonderful but the cake itself is a bit dry and boring... I tried cookies and cream and peanuts, both on chocolate cakes. After checking out cupcake places online and reading they even offer Gluten free ones my friend and me made our way out to the Berlin Cup Cake place the other day. As we entered this charming place we were welcomed by a variety of amazing and colorful looking cup cakes and my heart made a little jumped. Sadly in my scenario I was calmed down very fast as I got to know they don't offer the gluten free ones in their daily menu, you have to order them and buy them by a dozen then. So I sticked with my ordered Chai Latte and was teased by my friend who enjoyed her perfect red velvet cupcake with those tiny cute heart sprinkles on top... Cupcake is one of my favourite treateries in Berlin, especially since Dawn is such a lovely proprietress. The selection of cupcakes is always amazing and the combinations are mouth watering and irresistible (chocolate, peanut butter, mint to name a few). I especially love the thoughtful detail - cupcakes topped with fresh seasonal fruit or luxurious coconut rocher. Yum! Though I'm not vegan I often end up choosing one of their vegan options (raspberry) because it's so delicious. They do a mean beans on toast or a bagel if you're after a savoury dish (great hangover cure, ahem) instead. I came across Cupcake in the "early days" and keep going back for more. German baking and American baking is completely different. FYI: The flour is lighter and not as dense as German cakes. Although I normally am not a fan of cakes in general, I do love cupcakes once in a while. This place is my escape from Germany whenever I want something "American." Let's say for example, a root-beer float, a disgusting can of Pabst Blue Ribbon (watered down American beer that college students fill their kegs with), or something else that is unhealthy but scrumptious (like say a cupcake!). The treats here are colorful, gigantic, and delicious. I love how it is vegan friendly (which I always opt for if available), appealing to the eye, and very tasty! I normally split one with a friend because the servings are generous for one with a not-so-sweet-tooth. Bonus: If you take it to go, they also have nice take-out boxes. I've gone here a few times to bring a friend a mini-birthday cake when I had no time to bake myself. They make a perfect on the go gift for acquaintances and co-workers. The 3 stars is strictly for the cupcake because that's what matters in a cupcake shop (to me). The cake was nice, but not the best and most moist I've ever had. But the frosting is actually what turned me off. It's the super sugary sweet frosting piled high in the middle of the cupcake. I know it's a style, but even coverage is nice, you know? Into it. Stumbled onto this place by mistake when everyone else was hitting the Eis cafes hard (it was 86 degrees today! HOT). My eyes fell on a glorious looking "Oreo Cookie" type cupcake. 1. I love Oreo cookies. 2. I love cupcakes. I purchased. This was a hard choice because they had everything (peanut butter/chocolate cupcakes, chocolate/vanilla, lemon/vanilla, etc.) Everything in there costs 2.80€. The chicks behind the counter were pleasant enough and they were playing Beach House throughout the shop. Huge. Moist. Delicious. Cupcakes. It was reeeeally hard to choose, but on my inaugural visit to Cupcake, we selected one carrot cake and one Oreo cream. I fuckin' love carrot cake. And this cupcake, with its creamy, copious cream cheese frosting, did not disappoint. The Oreo cream was equally moist and creamy, though a bit plain. Next time, I want to try the mint. they have the basics down; yellow cupcakes, chocolate sour cream, cream cheese frosting and all. but it definitely lacks the fluffiness and airiness a cupcake has as opposed to a regular dense cake. understandably, cupcakes are not a german thing so i commend them for their effort. the nutella cupcake is really tasty (anything with nutella is a win) and their vegan raspberry was pretty damn delicious too. i like that they incorporate seasonal fruit into their menu. having a cupcakery in the friedrichshain-kreuzberg area really is the cherry on top to this beautiful neighborhood. i'm already looking forward to my next visit here. I've had WAY better cupcakes in my lifetime but since cupcakes don't seem to be much of a German thing, I'd say this place does pretty well considering. The cakes aren't that fluffy which would be fine if the frosting was light and buttery (ohhhh how I long for some proper buttercream!), but it isn't. If you like thicker and sugarier, well, its thick and sugary. I do have to say the place is pretty cute, the service friendly and its on a less populated street than the surrounding ones so you can sit outside and people-watch without getting too trampled. This happened to me again at "CUPCAKE". First I had to decide if I should have a name-giving cupcake or a pie, slice of cake, etc. And: Finally my eyes wandered back to the cute cupcakes. I went to "Cupcake" a few weeks ago cause I found out they got glutenfree Cupcakes! Usually you have to order them but as I was around the corner ayway I just walked in and asked them if they got some by any chance. And: They did! It felt like heaven! I had a chocolate/raspberry one and it was delicious but also VERY sweet. I guess it's supposed to be that sweet, if I only would have known before I put all that sugar into my Latte Macchiato ;)! Ok not the cheapest but pretty darn good for a quickfix when you want a classic American buttercream cupcake.They also have really intersting flavors and decorate them very cutely. One problem I noticed was that sometimes these cupcakes were not as fresh as could be. Sometimes they are stale on the outside which makes them drier and effects the flavor. For the price almost 3 euros a pop thats not cool. They either need to make less and keep them fresher or make them cheaper so they don't give me an old cupcake that been sitting in the air for days. Cutely decorated little cafe in Friedrichshain. The cupcakes certainly looked tasty and appealing. I went for the salted caramel chocolate cupcake - so chocolate cupcake with salted caramel frosting. It looked better than it tasted, I'm afraid. Give me a Hummingbird cupcake any day over that. The cupcake was itself too dry, and also lacking in any real chocolate flavour. The frosting was too sweet by comparison to the cupcake and I couldn't really taste the salted caramel flavour, so all in all disappointing. Go there if you fancy the novelty of American cupcakes in Berlin but I am sure there are much better cakes and cafes to be had in Berlin. read more

I stumbled upon this place coming back from the flea market with two friends that were in town. The interior of the places is really nice and they sell some random things like pop tarts, mac'n'cheese, bakes beans (everything super expensive) and also lovely cupcakes. This will be my 1st review for Qype- that's how impressive & inspiring Cupcake is! Super cute little cafè conveniently located 5 minutes from my flat in the über-cool (that's the extent of meine Deutsch, by the way) neighbourhood of Friedrichshain- but I'd travel much further if I had to to have one (or several) of their delectable, moist, succulent VEGAN cupcakes! They're gorgeous, too. Vegans: Just ask to make sure the sugar crystal sprinkles of the day on top are vegan, too or ask for one with a fruit decoration on top of the scrumptious vegan frosting! (When I'm really craving sweets, I could eat a few spoonfuls of their vegan frosting alone!) :) Aside from the obvious food choice (cupcakes) they offer other amazingly delicious vegan fare like chocolate brownies with a ribbon of peanut butter throughout (:drool!:), apple pie (sometimes), banana bread (to die for!) and more savory snacks like bagels with vegan margarine and beans on toast.
