I would like to give this place ZERO stars but that's not possible.
What is not wrong with this place?
i made a booking via Dimmi and after having confirmed it and confirming with the restaurant that I was going to have additional people, for some reason they cancelled my booking. So, I had to rebook just days before the dinner.
On the day of the dinner, they were accommodating in terms of having one additional person show up, asked about food allergies and told us about how their banquet option worked. We were also told that there would be sufficient food for everyone and if not they would refill the curries, breads and rice.
Sounded good. We went for the more expensive banquet - 47 per head which included mixed naans, rice, lamb rogan josh, yellow lentils, a vegetarian curry, butter chicken, samosa, onion bhaji and chicken tikka.
The samosa, onion bhaji and chicken tikka arrived quite quickly with all the condiments. Each entree lacked salt and any sort of flavour. I love samosa and onion bhaji. They are two things that are quite hard to get wrong. I mean - how do you mess up pastry and potato. But this samosa and onion bhaji lacked any flavour. The chicken tikka was quite dry and the tamarind chutney did not go with it. We needed a strong mint or coriander chutney. However, we were provided with a bland yogurt.
Then they took forever to clear our plates. We waited 30 minutes. In the meantime, they delivered garlic naans to our table. We were a bit confused on why we had received naans when our entree plates hadn't been cleared and the curries hadn't arrived. Then the waiters came one by one and took away our garlic naans and gave it to other restaurant patrons. How BIZARRE!
Finally after our plates were cleared, the curries, rice and naans arrived. The waiter literally asked me where to put the curry because he couldn't find room on the table (how is this my problem? - Perhaps he should stagger the serving or place the dishes more evenly on the table - I don't know - take a class in table logistics). Also, we only got butter naans - what happened to the garlic naans we were promised or the mixed naans? I then had to ask for them to be served.
Again, each curry was quite flavourless. The butter chicken wasn't creamy enough. The lamb rogan josh was what you could get at a food court - for the price of $10 with naan, another curry and rice. The yellow lentils curry was turmeric tasting. Where was the taste of cumin or ghee or chillies? The vegetarian curry was the best (shocking!).
The chairs were quite uncomfortable to sit on.
As it was a birthday dinner, I had ordered a cake that was to be brought out after. I asked them to cut it evenly for the group. However, they gave some people the tiniest pieces possible and some people extremely large pieces. And they didn't even all come out at once.
Now the clincher - while eating, the chef randomly walked out of the kitchen for a stroll. His chef's uniform looked like a war zone - splatters of turmeric, chilli, garam masala, etc - EVERY WHERE. He definitely needs some napisan!
Oh and the ambience - well you could walk in here wearing anything. There were people in suits and then there were people in their gym clothes. *insert wide eyes*
I do not have any food photos (yes - I know blasphemous because my experience was horrifying).
