I had the French dip at the trading Post Café. It was fine. It was a French dip the main point of this review was the funniest sign. I've read in all of Montana. Pick included below, but technically to note for anybody who's coming to visit that uses any type of mobility device that navigating the trading post is going to be quite difficult the aisles are very narrow and the bathroom door and front doors are heavy. Always stop in for an Indian Taco when anywhere within 200 miles! They say it is the best and I agree. Over 20 times here and each time the taco is the best! The attached shopping area is a plus too. Located across from the Little Big Horn Park - make it breakfast and lunch and do what I do - take one to go! The owners are friendly and ask where you traveled from and seem genuinely nice folks. Place is clean - and the prices are very reasonable Lots of different menu items besides Indian Tacos so stop in and visit - it's always worth it. read more

Fantastic food. The Indian taco.......so delicious. Great value for the money; had to get a to go box and finished it for dinner after we stopped for the night. Service is second to none. This is a very spacious shop and carries so many Native souvenirs that you can spend a few hundred dollars here very easily. I found a shirt I really wanted but they were sold out of my size. Before leaving we ordered Fry Bread at the cafe and added honey to make it sweet and devoured it while it was still hot. read more

Serendipity! Fortunately I had walked out of bad breakfast place in Hardin. This place wasn't on Yelp but should be. It's been in business 28 years! The frybread is great made to order and very hot when served. It's like an elephant ear you get at the fairs but not sweet more bread flavored which is eaten with honey but also went great with my meal. The bison steak (with soft scrambled eggs) was great. While you definitely need a steak knife to cut it it chews very easily almost melting in you your mouth. It was perfectly cooked medium rare as were the eggs. Good hash browns and coffee too. My gf got the bison patty with eggs which was good too but doesn't compare to the steak. I'm sorry I wasn't going to be around to try their lunch or dinner. As a side note the place has a huge gift shop with a large variety of Native American arts and crafts, leather goods, books, clothing, etc... including historical items and museum quality pieces for sale. This place is a must stop if you are anywhere near here and I mean Montana-near here too to eat and buy stuff. Imagine a Cracker Barrel on steroids with real home cooked food. read more

What can you expect? Diner style food, served hot, with a smile and local charm. I like the link sausage, eggs and toast. The breakfast sandwich is good too. I live here in Chichuche (or Hardin for the non-Crow speakers) so I frequent this place every so often--First) to remind myself I love fry bread and B) I like my own cooking just fine. The fun thing about this place is the museum like areas in the store to check out. It's attracting all kinds of out of town folks and does a good job at it. Make your way to the way back to see some great local tribal artifacts and other tribes artifacts traded to these folks. It's pretty neat. read more

The cafe was PACKED on Memorial Day and it took forever to get served. I got an "Indian taco" because I'd never had one before, but it was basically a taco salad on a sopapilla. The Indian fry bread is even served with honey when you order it by itself, so if you've had a sopapilla, you've had this and can save some money. :p Prices are WAY expensive! They charge so much for a bison burger; you'd think people have never had a bison burger before and it's their only opportunity! At least put bison on the Indian taco instead of ground beef... :/ The store is super cool and authentic and the reason I did 3 stars instead of 2. They have hats made out of coyotes and cats. Lol. I got a real bobcat tail keychain and some cool postcards. read more

Mighty fine place to stop and have a meal, good food and a good community. The cookies and snacks are great and service is fine. I like the local community and so appreciate hearing the language spoken (thank you to the previous yelper on that one!) and seeing an important community doing well. The addition to the store in the last few years is also impressive and I thought, very sensitively done and respectful. I bought some Crow language books for children and brought them home to share with other Native children, so they could appreciate the beauty of other tribal languages - and their own. What a fantastic community the local Crow people have, so good to see it celebrated as it should be. Traditional values are important, and we are lucky to have this special place. Yeah ! read more

This is a brilliant gift shop! Lots of books, lots of American Indian souvenirs, and art. Definitely hit this shop up in addition to the visitor center at the battlefield. My only complaint was the lack of American Indian cook books. I collect cook books at the locations I visit and was desperately hoping to find something unique to add to my collection. I have visited the American Indian museums in New York and DC and have found two WONDERFUL books that I use often that highlight American Indian cooking. One is the Mitsam Cafe book which is named after the cafe in the American Indian Museum in DC. Tap into the Foodies that are visiting your store and cafe. We are a loyal bunch and find connections with culture via food. read more

The gift shop was very nice except for the fact that my dad was not allowed to use the bathroom inside. The porta potty men are asked to use is DISGUSTING. My dad said it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in god knows how long. Lifted up the lid and flies came out! We would have went to the museum, but we were both offended that the only way my dad could use a good bathroom was by paying $7.50. read more

THIS IS NOT A SUBWAY!!! After the Battlefield, we stopped for some postcards and some food. I ordered the soup of the day (a beef and veggie soup) and fry bread. My husband ordered the Indian taco. WOW! The fry bread was gigantic and tasty! The soup was awesome - very beefy with veggies that would melt in your mouth! The flavor was great and I was one happy traveler. The taco was great too. Loaded with all of the usual taco fillings, plus it was on a huge fry bread. Totally yummy, and filling too! The waitress was a sweetheart! She answered questions about the area and offered great service! I am hoping that Native Americans own this trading post - they need to be in charge of businesses that profit them. Nice things in the sales area and it was nice hearing Crow being spoken too. Friendly folks, and we would feel great coming back! read more

This is obviously a touristy place no doubt. I mean it is a roadside stand that sales souvenirs. However the souvenirs are kind of cool, and it has a small restaurant. We had a couple of friends recommend coming here and getting the Indian tacos. Those are tacos made fry bread. I tried them and they were very good. Also, I would recommend just the fry bread with the honey. That was good as well. If you're at the battlefield don't miss stopping by. read more

We stopped for gas and spent an enjoyable 20 minutes browsing the many historical books on Custer, the Civil War, Native Americans and both men and women of our nation's history. The manager (and owner?) of the museum was quite friendly as was the woman working the cash register. The restaurant is now only a Subway so we passed. We happily bought several books though. A must stop as earlier stated, the food is upscale home cookin', Indian taco, bison steak, corn soup and fry bread that hangs over the plate just to get your mouth watering. The menu has specials and a lot of choices. The gift shops are like walking into a museum but other items that are affordable as well. Great destination stop! read more
