I was really happy with Cyprus when I first opened my account more than 10 years ago but since then they have gotten worse and worse. Their fees have increased a lot. One thing I find really funny is that for their HQ, the branch I'm reviewing now, is that they have a large glass wall that leans out making the building crooked. A bank built a crooked building. Worst bank I've ever used! Stay as far away from these scammers as you can. I bought a car at Mark Miller Toyota and thought I was getting a loan from Toyota Financial Services. A month later I get a bill from Cyprus Credit Union. You can't just pay your bill. You have to link an external bank account, either through Plaid or a small funds transfer. The account link failed multiple times with Plaid, so I used the funds verification. It failed as well. After two more attempts, and hours on the phone with their customer service, I was able to link my real bank account and make the car payment. When you click "Pay Now" it doesn't make a payment, it takes you to a funds transfer screen. You have to click "Details" to see what the actual payment amount is. My payment is supposed to be $311.66, but almost every month Cyprus asks for a different amount. Some months they only wanted $275. Other months they wanted $325. It's the most purposely convoluted system I've ever seen. Every other bill I've ever had clearly shows what the bill amount is and why when you pick the "Pay Now" option. Not Cyprus. You just have to guess what your bill is going to be, and why. Their customer service is useless and takes forever to get anything accomplished. They also send out texts that sound super scammy, asking for PII in an unencrypted text. Basically rule number one of avoiding scams is to not respond to requests for PII from unknown numbers, yet I've gotten texts from random numbers claiming to be CU multiple times. Rule two is to not share PII in unencrypted formats. This bank is run by amateurs. read more

Unnecessary ID verification/I do not look like a typical Utahn I have been a customer for several years. Today I went to the Cyprus Credit Union located on 3876 Center View Way, West Jordan, UT 84084. I went in to open a business checking account and the service was alright but it felt like the branch questioned my identity. I was about to leave with the form I needed to fill to start their process, but prior to my leaving I was asked to "update" my ID in the system (they may have been checking to see if it was valid) which I did, but I know my ID was already validated as I just received a new debit card and recently opened a CD with the credit union (different branch) which checks a person's ID, all in the month of April. This encounter has me question if some employees, at the aforementioned West Jordan branch, actually see people or do they see what they think and make their judgement? read more

If you care about leaving your estate to your family use any other institution. They do not follow standard estate process and will drain the account before the family can even get the death certificate or start probate. Then when you try to get any info on it. They will be disrespectful when you call customer service and say eww we don't deal with death no one at customer service can help you have to go to a branch. At that point you will have to go to 3 different branches to find anyone competent enough to answer questions then they will send you to collections. Once you get there they will tell you its in the contract they can take all the debt without any notification. Most places give notice or allow you to keep the account in the estate til probate is done they don't care about their customers just the money. They also act like you are terrible for wanting info I have been entirely disgusted with the whole experience you would think they would try to be accommodating but they don't care. In short if you have an account here close it and go anywhere else or if you are considering them I would seriously reconsider. read more

They no longer allow you to view photos of your cashed checks online. They force you to pay $20 per hour and $3 per check and no one knows how long it will take. This used to be a free task you could do yourself like EVERY SINGLE OTHER credit union or bank offers. Their phone tree is absolutely the worst. it is much faster to physically go to a location. Want to call a particular branch? Not happening. They have one number and you get who you get. read more

I have a HELOC with Cyprus and it has been 100% a terrible experience. They have a monthly transfer limit of $5000. Need to pay a contractor $6,000? That will require you to go into the bank and get a physical check. Let's say you want to pay down your HELOC balance and give them money...yeah, that's also subject to the monthly $5,000 limit. I've been into that branch more times now than I've been to all other banks in my life combined. This is by far the worst experience I can imagine. They claim it's for security. Nah, this is what lack of security looks like. They have no real fraud mitigation technology so they force everyone into the branch anytime they need to do anything that's not absolutely trivial. Went in today to get some money out of my account for my upcoming trip, and didn't have my account number memorised. The teller was perturbed, and not helpful. She wanted to know how I wanted her to look up my account. Uhh I don't know, how do you normally look it up? One good thing, there wasn't any one in line, so I didn't have to wait to be helped. The only reason I have an account here, is because I had a loan through them years ago, and when I paid off the loan, I just kept putting money in the account. I use it as a savings. read more

CRIMINAL. They cleared out half of my savings account because of fraud that happened on my sisters account. Apparently 20+ years ago when my now deceased mother took us to start savings accounts it joined our accounts together. They shouldn't be, they should have been joint with our deceased mother not each others. And on top of that all of our mothers accounts had been closed by my father. There is no reason for our accounts to be linked other than Cypruses error. They couldn't stop the fraud on my sisters account because they were "behind" and it got so bad she had to close her account after 20+ years. poorest in customer service, small thinkers, poor responders, dishonest mortgage rate and fee quoting processes... I am not talking about the teller people and the in-branch employees. I am talking about upper management, the people hiding behind the scene. Cowards. Don't even dare replying to my emails, my complaint about the situation...Makes you wonder. I told them I will leave the CU... We are a small business and do have a healthy sum cycle through the CU every year, but we are by no means big. Anyway, you can see a lot behind the scene when they care so little about your business that they don't even try to keep your business, after 14 years of membership. I think it is good to move over to a 'real' bank and get a new start with professionals as opposed to people that can't even face your complaint straight on. i would give them a 0 if I could , I have a car loan through them , I have been paying though my text , and yesterday they decided I couldn't do that anymore even though that's what worked for me , when I was talking to the rep they refused to transfer me and they refused to send me to a manager , the rep was taunting me , worst customer service , can't pay online because there is a an authorized user that should be able to get taken off and they won't take him off even tho it shows I have had this account before that person . My family went into Cyprus credit union in hopes to get a mortgage loan. We consulted with Anna S. after receiving a referral to go see her. We weren't able to get approved at that time, but she was very helpful with guiding us through what steps we should take to better chance our success of approval. After a month of doing the things she had suggested she was able to get us a loan! Horrendous. I can't speak for regular banking here - credit unions are usually good. But the loans department is absolutely awful in terms of communication and timeliness. They do not return, let alone answer calls or emails and there is no accountability in their structure - good luck figuring out the chain of command. Everyone is their own boss and they're bad at it. Try for a loan here if your goal is to rip out all of your hair while crushing your dreams. read more

I took in a check with only my husband's name on it for over 14,000 to pay off our car There was only 30.00 left on the loan and they would not take a card with only his name on it without Id matching for the 30. Said it would have to be done over the phone which charges an extra 10. I could use the card on the phone without id though. Stick to America first or any other credit union. My son has been banking with Cyprus every since he was 16. He has gotten a car loan 2 years ago on his own and some driver totalled his car not my son fault. The other party is paying for it. My son tried to get another car loan they gonna tell him he was late a couple of times and will need a co-signer, I say this is Bolognie. My son has paid his payment and even more. So now they want to penalize him for that. A college student who works two jobs and pays his bills. It seems like the good always suffer with the bad. I wish I could give zero stars. read more

First time at Cyprus credit union... Was unaware what time they closed. Showed up apparently a minute before they closed the guy tried to lock the door on me. And then opened it annoyed that I still came up to the door and told me "you have 30 seconds." And rolled his eyes. Cyprus Credit Union seriously SUCKS! I got a loan for a car thru them in order to build credit. After about 3 weeks I decided that the interest was not worth it, and I decided to pay for the loan entirely. It appears as tho they don't want anyone to actually pay off loans because this is the ringer that they put me thru to finally be able to pay off the loan: 1- I never recieved any piece of mail regarding my loan, so I never knew what my account number was, my balance, or any other piece of information regarding my loan. When I called in to ask for my account information, they said they are not allowed to give me that information over the phone. What happens if I don't live near a branch?!? Because their branches are basically only located in west valley, I had to leave work early, and drive an extra half hour just to get to the bank. The service at the bank was fine, and I got my account information. However, they left out a HUGE detail, that you can't login online with just your account number. 2- By the time I got back home and discovered that I could not login online because I didn't have enough information, it was after 5:30 MST, which is when their customer service closes up shop for the night. I didn't know that credit unions didn't have 24 hour support, so I tried calling, just to be told after punching in about 10 number, that their offices are closed and there is no after hour support! Awesome 3- When I called into the main offices for support the following day, they let me know that again, they couldn't give me any information over the phone regarding my account or online login information. (Now I'm starting to understand why they don't have 24 customer support, because they don't help you over the phone!) Fast forward to the end of my work day, I have to leave early AGAIN and drive 30 minutes AGAIN to get to a branch, get the information I needed, after SPECIFICALLY requesting it and having the branch manager have to get the information. So 2 days and 2 extra hours of driving later, I was finally able to pay off my loan. This is the MOST inconvenient bank/credit union I have ever dealt with. I have had a a different financial institutions bank account for years, and I haven't been super happy with them, but after this experience with Cyprus, my bank looks like the Michael Jordan of banks. I would NEVER recommend Cyprus to anyone. I'll never use them for anything, ever again. read more

I absolutely LOVE Cyprus! Such a good credit union. I have yet to have a bad experience with one of their tellers or member service representatives! I'm proud to bank with them. My only complaint would be the wait time you have when you call their corporate center. They need a few more employees in their call center but other than that, I've enjoyed them! read more

Word of advice, AVOID Cyprus CU. You are more likely to win the lottery than receive an email response from any sort of customer service. Just wasted my entire lunch break driving to a branch over something that should have easily been resolved if somebody would ever return an email. I have had a basic checking and savings account with Cyprus for the last 6 years. Everything has gone by smoothly, sometimes they update their site and it doesn't work correctly for a bit or their ATM outside doesn't work but whenever I have notified them they were quick to fix it and assist me. I like this bank account much more than other bank accounts, I can't imagine having to have a large minimum amount at all times or having to pay to have the account open.
