Ca del Sole was a beautiful base hotel for our time in Cortina d'Ampezzo. It is about a 15 minute drive from the main town, but was nice for feeling like you were a bit more removed from the busy traffic and noise. We had a party of 3, and shared a 2 bedroom/bath apartment.
Pros:
- Absolutely beautiful views from our rooms
- very clean, and the beds were very comfy. This was one of the few (possibly only) hotel out of our 5 during our trip that had decent AC.
- bathroom counter space was great. Overall the entire apartment was very spacious
- very sizable parking lot
- elevator!
Cons:
- We never once saw a single employee of the hotel, but we definitely heard from them. They were VERY aggressive with communicating and insisting on getting an ETA, and after all of that, all they needed to provide us was a door code to get in once they realized we were arriving after they wanted to be at work. The communication was just very overbearing, and at a point when we called to provide information, the person who answered the phone did not speak anything other than Italian. Just an odd choice given that you're mostly dealing with international tourists (and we even had someone in our group who could speak German). We had barely woken up after our first of two nights, when we were already receiving please be ready to checkout messages.
- If you are, in any way, slightly on the larger side, or to be honest, anything larger than petite, you will absolutely hate their showers - or just straight up not fit. We are perfectly used to and fine with European sized showers, but these took the cake - there was literally no space to turn around or move without knocking the water off (or more unfortunately, to raging hot).
- In comparison to other hotel/apartment stays during our trip, this was the sparsest in terms of kitchenware, which made for a much more difficult cooking experience.
I'm giving more detail in our cons, so you can have all of the information, but really I personally enjoyed our room very much, and the shower thing became almost a point of hilarity. I'd recommend Ca del Sole, and I had a great two nights there. read more
