Sign me up!…read more I haven't lived in many cities outside India where I could make a short public transport trip to an Indian grocery store. Luckily for me, Amsterdam changed all that. Khera's is a homely little place in the center of the city. I am always greeted by the same friendly Indian lady every time I visit. It is always a good time catching up with her about various events and discussing days long passed. The clientele seems to be mostly loyal customers who keep coming back for their fix of ethnic food, fresh produce, and often just friendly conversation with the owner. Khera's is also probably the only place in Amsterdam to find fresh Indian cottage cheese. Prices are average, selection is vast, and the taste of home, priceless.

It's a filipino grocery store but it's also a catering service and they sell take away food. It's what I call "hiding in plain sight". The owner of the only other filipino store in Amsterdam referred me here. It's much closer to where I live. I love it. Why? Do you say? Well, because the owner, Gina, will cook any filipino dish you desire in the quantities you desire to take home. You can call in and preorder, go in and visit and order or buy whatever she's already got cooked. She's very friendly. As a matter of fact I'm hoping she'll adopt me and expect me for dinner regularly. Ok maybe not. So here's the deal. She told me they'd just catered a 150 person private party of which of course all the attendees were all avid filipino food lovers, filipinos, expats, internationals and dutchies. She'll cook for one or many. So I'm going to arrange a dinner for our local Yelpies. I am not going to do this often because I don't want you all to get spoiled and wear out my new source LOL. I'll start by giving a shout out to a Staff member named Karen who was super helpful. The food here is mostly Japanese and Korean. There is a Kimchi section in the far left side from the entrance. They also have a great variety of sake and noodles, and fantastic section of mushrooms and bean sprouts - very well priced. They also have the Konjac noodles and the octopus balls - Takoyoki packs and an in-house small snack bar. Overall very stoked at all the Asian goodies found here, but did think it was a bit expensive. Be aware that discount seals are only for those food items that are coming close to their expiry date. I purchased a delicious seaweed snack that was discounted, only to discover when I got home that it's expired in two weeks from date of purchase (I had a lot of sushi rice for dinner during those two weeks!). Perhaps AC is too pricey to have on for them? A very decent amount of groceries here, greens, noodles, frozen packages. Me, I came a hunting for some Asian cold drinks. I thought I had bought a Thai ginger beer, but it turned out to be a weak sauce UK ginger beer. Funny to consider when my favorite one out there is Fever Tree!
