Honestly, one star is too many! Placed an order, confirmed the order but on the agreed upon day of pick-up, the order wasn't there. They said it would be in three days later, which is after our party. They were rude and gave no F's that they didn't have our order. They said they didn't need our business instead of simply owning their mistake and offering suggestions or alternatives. So chaotic and unprofessional. read more

This place is amazing. Not at all what I expected when I popped in. I live in Indy and my work takes me to Lafayette a couple of times a month and I was running lte and asked one of my customers where I could pick up a steak and they recommended this place. Fantastic dry goods selection. I had been searching for Calabrian peppers for a long time but the meat and seafood counters are great with more than fair prices. Whatever you think you can eat...order half. I ordered 6 ribs thinking my husband would want one or two. I ate 2...done full over. He had the pulled pork plate and didn't get through half. We were late in the day so the cheese mac was a little thick hubby loved it I was too full to eat it. I did taste the baked beans and they weren't canned they seemed homemade and we're very tasty. The food was good but the market is crazy good. They have boars head cold cuts the best in the world. All sorts of ethnic spices and sauces beautiful fish and a great meat dept. I usually have to go to Indianapolis to get some of the things I bought there. This is way more convenient for me. It's a small market but it's worth a look. read more

We stopped in for lunch mid-day on a Sunday on a our way back from a weekend in Chicago and found D&R Market based on all the positive yelp reviews. It's not far off from the highway and the perfect place to stop for a hearty lunch. We split the smoked chicken with 2 sides. Everything in the hot and cold cases looked delicious! We enjoyed the smoked chicken with the broccoli salad and cucumber salad. You and pick and choose your own barbecue sauce. The sweet ending to our meal was that the owner stopped by and gave us 2 free desserts and thanked us for our business. Being from Kentucky we saw this a true southern hospitality. This place is an absolute diamond and not too far from the highway. Super friendly service that moved quick. We stopped in on our way to Chicago from the southern part of the state. It was between lunch and dinner so they weren't very busy but the food reflected a quality that was always there. They were out of 1 item but that lead me to one of the greatest discoveries in BBQ - their pork chop. My lawd the chop was huge, but most importantly it was DELICIOUS. I hope they have some for my next visit because I can't keep this secret any longer. Seriously - forget what you think you know and try it on your next visit. I was hungry and wanted some leftovers for dinner so I also ordered a slab of ribs and some mac 'n cheese. I'd say the mac 'n cheese was decent (this may have been a casualty of the timing of our arrival) and at least worth it. Stopped at D&R for BBQ quick lunch on our road trip and decided to look into the market. Great little place with an impressive butcher shop. We bought a few cheeses and salami looking forward to our evening cocktails at the beach. Great selection of foodie munchies and many other products. Stopped in with my mom earlier this week after reading they had good food. I had brisket while my mom picked meatloaf. Both were good, but that meatloaf! It was delicious. Looking for a certain meat? This is the best place to go in town! I had a friend a while back that moved to the states from Poland. She was in Lafayette and was going to make a traditional Polish dish for her boyfriend and friends. We went everywhere in search for this specific kind of polish sausage. No one had it. Some of the butchers had never even heard of it. I remembered D & R so we stopped there to ask...and sure enough, they had it! :) They have also had what I was looking for in meats, fish, and etc. Lucky to have them here in town! D & R is one of the reasons I miss living in Lafayette. Their meat is as good as it's going to get, and the butcher's knowledge is second to none. If you want pairings for anything, they will know. The steaks I purchase from D & R are incredible; I will not buy meat anywhere else in town. The produce is fresh and they will have things that I can't even find at a Whole Foods. WOW! Probably the best BBQ in Lafayette in my opinion. I've shopped at the store for meat for years, but for some reason never have eaten in the restaurant. What a mistake waiting so long. I can't speak for all of their items but the Brisket is to die for. Super tender and moist, with a wonderful flavor. They gave us samples of several sides to try and all were top shelf. Mac and cheese, and green beans were my favorites, but also LOVED the baked beans. They gave us a sample of Chocolate Thunder ( I believe they called it ) it was fantastic as well. This is a fantastic specialty store. Easy to find and has a great private parking lot. I was a bit confused that there are three entrances to D&R but was easily pointed to the right door when I asked in the restaurant. The market is small and has a lot of cool items to look at it's also busy and the isles aren't That side so getting around is a little hard. The deli counter had wonderful prepared dishes to buy buy the pound, specialty cheeses and meats all at amazing prices. They also had prepackaged meats in another case to look at and several of them were reduced. I picked up three smoked pork chops prepared each one a different way and they were each wonderful. They also carry fresh veggies and condiments to make an entire meal I was happy to run across this place while on my recent road trip Friendly staff throughout the store makes this place a breeze to come in and pick up some great items. I love the meat here, but they're about to lose my business. I come here weekly and ask for the chicken breasts to be filetes, or a whole chicken to be cut up. The owner or manager, whoever he is, acts like it's the worst thing a customer could ask for. I'm not asking for anything they don't know how to do. He always behaves like it takes time away from him or it's such a problem, even when he isn't busy doing anything. Traveling through on our way to Chicago and stopped to check out the food. We were amazed by how delicious the brisket was. It's the best brisket I've had outside of my time of living in Texas. (My philosophy on BBQ, is if you can't make a quality brisket, you shouldn't be in the BBQ business). This place doesn't disappoint. We brought our dog to Purdue Small Animal Hospital for some testing and found this place on Yelp. Do not skip coming here. Best beef brisket I've ever had in my life. I had the meal, my husband had the sandwich which was more than a meal. Corn bread is amazing. it was closing time and Jeff actually gave me some collard greens to take home for tomorrow's lunch and a little leftover brisket. After reading Alex C.'s review for D & R, I thought it would be good to go check them out. One thing we found is that they have a greenhouse and sell plants. We ended up buying 10 plants, took them home to plant, and when our neighbors saw the beautiful plants, they could not believe we bought such quality plants for such reasonable prices. They ended up going and getting some also. I highly recommend the greenhouse. We love the plants, they have been so healthy, and get a lot of compliments. We have visited the fruit and meat market twice so far. We bought some meat, and I can say it was more tasty and of higher quality than what we have been buying at local grocers. We have always struggled to find consistent quality meat, so we are thinking we may have found the answer finally in D & R. The staff in the meat department was friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable. I enjoyed shopping the fruit and veggie section. I thought the produce was better than what we find in the local grocers. There is not a super huge selection, but I was able to find what I needed. It will be interesting to see what the quality will be like throughout the whole year. So far the veggies and fruits have seemed fresher and tastier than what we would normally find. I never had time to get to the farmer's market this year, but stopping at D & R is convenient for us. There are a lot of goodies in the shop as far as seasonings and sauces go, and I look forward to making some neat discoveries that might add to the excitement of cooking and baking. read more

The market offers unique items that you won't find at other grocery stores in town and their meat market has a great selection. You will spend more money in here, but you are helping out a locally owned shop which makes it worth it! They have great deli salads that we have brought to more than one potluck. If you have a favorite and call ahead they will have it ready for you as well! They will let you try samples and they have the best smoked salmon spread! Give it a try. We love the dip served on a triscuit. A few spaces down you will find their restaurant. They have great brisket and I've heard they serve alligator that is really good! I really enjoy visiting D&R when I have a little time. I like to just wander and check out all of the different offerings. They have amazing meats, though perhaps a little pricey. (I have found there is a certain amount of "you get what you pay for" in this life) The butchers are encyclopedic on any question you may have. They can cut or grind your selection just the way you want it. They carry many meat items you won't find any where else. The sight afforded meat displayed in the meat counter window is really something. Their two walls of spices, sauces, seasonings and such is quite nice. They have assorted craft cheeses and a decent selection of fruits and vegetables. D&R is a nice market to visit any time, and especially when you need a little inspiration for your cooking. Wow!!! The only way to describe the meatloaf that I tried here....I took it upon fellow yelpers. To see just how good this really was! Walked in on a Monday around 530 pretty quiet was greeted immediately as soon as I decided which door to go in just wanted to try the meatloaf but their special was the dinner with 2 sides for 999 which I thought great deal. Glad I did Mac and cheese great baked taste a lot of cheeses. Had brisket and ribs and they were fabulous, particularly with the house Carolina sauce. Both were tender and all meat and some of the best we'd ever had. We arrived 5 min before closing, but the staff couldn't have been nicer. Don't let the strip mall exterior turn you away; this place serves good barbeque with great selection of sides. When I told Jeff it was my first visit, he hooked me up with a variety plate. The smoked chicken was moist and not drowned in sauce. I also enjoyed the pulled pork. I went just before closing, so some items were sold out. The potato salad was the best I've ever had. The other sides were also tasty. They have a special every day - Thursday is smoked pork chops - I didn't get to try them, but they were thick and looked juicy.
