It's been some time since I've visited D'egg on Hampton Blvd. I just attended Sunday Mass and was feeling some breakfast, so I decided to take the trip. D'egg is one of the area's simple diners. They're open for breakfast and lunch (7:30a-2:30p daily) and they offer typical American breakfast/brunch items. What set them apart (for me, at least) was that their employees were always kind, nice and helpful. Customer service really goes a long way. When I arrived, it wasn't super busy, but there were enough occupied tables to convince me to sit at the bar. The server who helped me was just as kind, nice and helpful as every employee I've encountered during previous visits, so I was happy to see that aspect hasn't changed. I noticed they changed from Pepsi to Coke products. It was recent, too, because some of the Coke items weren't available that day. Not a big deal, but the switch is worth mentioning for those hardcore Pepsi fans. Btw, this D'egg location looked clean and organized. I took a few minutes to order, and my server offered to answer any questions I had. I ordered an item I haven't eaten in a long time - country fried steak. My entree was out in no time and mine came with scrambled eggs (you can choose how you want your eggs), tots and wheat toast. They gave me a lot of gravy - regardless, I devoured my dish. Soon afterwards, I paid and was out the door. So if you're in a rush, this D'egg location might be the spot. Degg West is a diner in Norfolk serving your typical breakfast and lunch items. I visited on a Saturday for lunch and this place was packed! I ended up sitting at one of the bar seats and watched as several large parties continued to put their name on the hour long waiting list. The service is extremely friendly but you can tell that they are overwhelmed with the amount of staff they have. I ordered the steak breakfast burrito and it was not something I would recommend, I should have stuck with pancakes because those looked good. The coffee was good too. We recently visited Norfolk and decided to stop by this restaurant while we were looking for a late brunch. The location that we stopped by is a smaller restaurant with a strong diner, like vibe to it. A combination of counter space and booths. Makeup the majority of the space in this establishment. The menu is pretty straightforward with what you would expect as standard fare for breakfast and lunch entrées which includes a significant amount of pancake French, toast and sandwich options. I had the Reuben and onion rings, which were decent. Onion rings were crisp, and my Ruben was also well-made. The majority of the table went with breakfast items. And everyone seem to be pretty happy with what they ordered, especially the cinnamon roll pancakes. The highlight of the menu believe it or not was the fresh squeezed orange juice one person ordered at our table, and then upon that person drinking it, the rest of us had to order a glass as well. My only complaint, if any was the lack of certain items on the menu. I was really interested in ordering the meatloaf as you don't normally see that on the menu. But unfortunately they didn't have any meatloaf the day we visited. If you live in the area and you're looking for a great breakfast place. I would definitely say try this out. read more

A great breakfast joint for small groups (4 or smaller). This joint is narrow and has a dozen or so booths and some bar seating. Even on weekdays this location is popular, so don't be surprised if you have a wait if you arrive around 9am. If you're an early riser, they do have a few items that are cheaper before 9am. Service is fast and friendly. They don't rush you out the door, but you won't have to wait around for your check after you finish the meal. They always drop it off shortly after our food arrives. I prefer d'local yocal (early riser before 9) which is just choice eggs, meat, side dish, and bread. We spoiled ourselves with D'Favorite this time around because their pancakes are so fluffy and delicious. We also tried the French toast, which I highly recommend. There was so much cinnamon, yum! Three people in our party had pancakes that were not cooked all the way through. They were doughy in the middle. When we returned them we were told that's the way they cook their pancakes. We asked them to remove them from our order since we ordered Al la carte, and we were told they could not remove them from our bill. This was unsatisfactory since we each had onlytaken one bite. I used to frequent this place when I worked near there years ago. I was stoked to see that they were still there now that I'm working back in the area. So far I've been 3 times for lunch and neither time has disappointed. It's a small spot and every time I've been every table has been taken. There is a large bar area that always seemed to have chairs available. They are not opened on Mondays and Tuesdays which I learned the hard way. Other than that, no complaints here! This breakfast started off wrong. The waitress couldn't get the orders of coffee right. When it came to our breakfast order it was completely wrong. The French toast was cold I asked to have them reheated they said they couldn't do that. So I asked to have them remade the next set came back not completely cooked inside. The pancakes were very wet and doughy inside. The manager said nothing was wrong with them . It's not like they were paying for out meal. Three stars and subpar at best. I tried the downtown location first and got an omelette. It was SO greasy. When you go in with your fork, you can see the oil gushing out. The breakfast BLT is good, but they use the bacon that they used to give us in public school. It's not good quality bacon. My husband got a bagel sandwich and the bagel was like a frozen garbage bagel from a bag. Was tiny and bland. Speaking of bland, the side of sausage I got was maybe the worst I've ever had. Soooooooo glad this place made it through the last year! They are open for indoor, to go, and delivery options with Door Dash! Quick not so much...AND THAT'S EXCELLENT! Not that service is slow because it's not but When I need quick I hit the drive thru. When I'm in the mood for fresh cracked eggs and made to order EVERYTHING this is my breakfast spot! We haven't tried lunch expect for the avacado bacon melt which was AMAZING. Grits are awesome, biscuits and gravy are to die for, avacado toast you need to try! Best value I think is the build your own sandwich. $5.50 gets choice of a bread, biscuit or bagel/cheese/meat/&egg. And it's huge as pictured. Tried something new and I'm in love! The Double Yolker - a nice big heap of crispy shredded hash browns, sautéed in a perfect mixture of onions, peppers, sausage, bacon and cheddar cheese topped with two gorgeous sunny side-up eggs, cooked how you like. Me and my wife saw this place across the street from another business a while back and wanted to try it out. We saw that it looked pretty packed and were excited to see what they had to offer. Once we arrived to D'egg the parking was good, it had its own private parking area and it was right off the corner of the road. Once we arrived inside the establishment we were greeted and then seated with the menu's. My wife ordered The Tri-Tip and Eggs with coffee and I ordered the D'Feast which came with 2 pancakes, 3 eggs, choice of meat (which I got the corn beef hash) and a side (which I got the hash browns). I also ordered fresh orange juice and we both received water as well. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and it had that diner feel and look to it and the cleanliness was good. You could tell that the business was near a military base due to the fact that there was numerous military personnel there (including us). The employees were very nice and we received our food in a good amount of time. When we got our food the presentation was nice and the food was hot and at a good temperature. My wife liked her meal and the same went for my meal as well. Everything tasted great and there was really no complaints to give except that the hash browns were a little soggy, but I'm sure you could order them more crispy if need be. So our over all experience was good and so was the food. If you are in the mood for some good breakfast dishes than this place is as good as any. Found this place by accident. Hard to see the sign from the street, but locals know this place. Opened from 07:30 to 2:30 only, this little dinner style restaurant is good for family or out of town guests. I had the d'Feast breakfast and overall it was good. Eggs -9/10 Sourdough toast - 7/10 Hash browns - 6/10 Bacon - 6/10 Pancakes - 8/10 Service was good plenty of staff on site I counted at least 6 employees. I showed up around 09:00 on Sunday and there was 3 tables opened, by the time I left there were people waiting to be seated. Bathroom were spacious but needed to be cleaned: Bathrooms 7/10 Service 8/10 Atmosphere 9/10 They do have a policy posted in two places, one on the front door and a very small few words on bottom of menu stating prices on menu are for CASH prices only. Anyone paying with a credit card will have to pay additional fees. To me this is inconceivable on 2022. Yes we saw this 30 years ago, but I haven't seen it since, restaurants charging customers for credit card fees. read more

Overdue review! We've DoorDashed the hell out of it, we've sat in here and at the downtown location, and this morning we enjoyed the outdoor patio/Covid seating. Perfect breakfast everytime. I mean EVERYTHING is ALWAYS delicious. The servers are always sweet, bubbly and attempt conversation. (THANKS Caitlen! ) THE FOOD IS ALWAYS PERFECT. (Did I say that already?) It's not hard to find a breakfast spot in the Tidewater, and usually when you see a line out the door and a solid wait, it's well worth it. It just wasn't in this case. We had a larger group (4 adults, 2 kids) so the wait was understandably longer than if we just had 2 or 3. Once we sat, the service was prompt, helpful and had great suggestions of what to try to get everyone a good breakfast; we got coffees quickly and had all our questions about the menu answered. The issue I had was the food. With the wait out the door, I figured we were in for a fantastic tasty breakfast, but instead were served a dichotomy of disappointment. I chose the Classic eggs Benedict - the Benedict sauce was heavy & thick and overtly citrus but the eggs were perfectly poached. I also tried the Biscuits and gravy - fluffy perfectly cooked biscuits but the gravy was a heavy, flavorless, very, very flour heavy. Everything I tried was half amazing, and half unsatisfying. The workers are nice and helpful, and the food are nothing to complaint because they are nothing special. This is a good place for smaller groups or individuals because there're not much space here. I see a lot of party for one customers here. I ordered the D'Favorite, which comes with 2 pancakes or French toast(I choose French toast), 2 eggs(I choose poached eggs) and choice of meat(I choose bacon). The French toast is ok, not extraordinary but not bad. The other food just taste like that. The only thing is that the orange juice is overpriced. It is 4 something as I remember. I should really learn my lesson about coming here. It's not the restaurant itself, it's the location. This specific restaurant is not good. Every time I go here I am not impressed. I won't spend too much time writing a lengthy review. Me personally I would just prefer to go to a different location in the future. This is definitely a diner, drive-in & dive (DDD). I mean it really fits in one of these categories. It's a small place but has a large bar counter you can sit at as well. With my group of 5 it was hard to sit comfortable at our table. The place definitely needs some renovating! The food makes up for it! I had the chicken philly sub and they use real chicken. It wasn't the steak-um or chicken-um meat quality and it was really good. My peers had thehomemade meatloaf and they really enjoyed it. It was heavy on the gravy and the meatloaf was thick...hmmm no wonder they were sleepy an hr back into the office... I'd passed this place many times and never thought twice about it. A friend recommended it for breakfast. When we arrived the first thing I noticed it did have a little diner feel, there's a little sit in bar facing into the kitchen. Definitely one of the closet things you'll get to a diner in this area. I of course, still on my cinnamon roll pancakes kick opted for, cinnamon roll pancakes. They were good! But the icing on them was overbearingly sweet. I'm sure the food is great... but my husband and I went there around 9am last week and we were greeted by a very sweet host. We got our water and our orange juice, (which is amazing by the way). We ordered about fifteen minutes later with another nice young lady. Thirty minutes later we still have no food and no one has come to tell us the update. A couple minutes later the couple who came in at the same time as us got their food. We decided to wait a little longer. About ten more minutes and some people at the counter got their fold and they had been in for barely fifteen minutes. These tables both had a different waitress than us. Anyway, we gave it another 15/20 mins finally talked to our waitress who apologized and went to "go check". I'm pretty sure she had forgotten to put the order in. I've worked at busy restaurants before and it never takes that long. Also it didn't seem that busy while we were there. She said it will come right out but we didn't want to wait, we were super hungry after waiting over an hour!
