Really terrific service! Seemed like it may be a one-person shop - you talk to Danny, who also does the work... and does it right away. Last night my 5 or 6-year-old Windows laptop suddenly went into a semi-comatose mode - not absolutely dead but showing minimal signs of life. I had the "Junk it or pay to try to fix?" debate in my head and decided to risk a small amount if someone could run diagnostics. I found DJ Computers on Yelp and drove over with my laptop this morning. Danny was very cordial (in a natural way), clearly knew his stuff, communicated very clearly the possible outcomes and associated costs. I said OK and paid for the $75 diagnostics. It turned out to be one of the main likelihoods he mentioned - Windows OS corrupted - and (with my pre-approval) he installed a clean new copy of the OS (I had successfully made backups). I dropped it off at about 11:15 this morning, and he called just before 3 to tell me to come pick it up, with clean-running normal Windows OS, plus a thoroughly cleaned keyboard surface, case, and screen. The fellow at DJ computers was very helpful, gave me suggestions and options to make my computer repair as painless as possible. Based on the symptoms of the machine he suggested a solid state hard drive to replace the factory drive. He said the age and quality of the machine was worth the cost for that repair. To save money, He suggested I do my own backup, which of course I took weeks to actually do. By the time I finally did get around to it the machine was glitching in other mysterious ways that made it impossible to use. In hindsight, I should've just paid him to back it up... Once I did finally manage to get critical info saved I dropped the machine off and he was done in a jiffy. The machine is light speed faster and functioning perfectly. read more

My old trusty Dell laptop had taken yet another late night Windows update, restarted, then went dark and began to rhythmically beep. My usual tricks were to no avail, so I headed to DJ Computers in the morning. It was fatal, a fried motherboard. Danny explained the hardware and labor costs, and then proceeded to talk me out of repairs, urged I take a look at new hardware that would cost the same or likely less than having him make repairs. (I get sentimental about old machines...) A few weeks later (curses, Dell backlog) I returned to DJ Computers with my new laptop and the "brick". Danny quickly transferred my photos and files from old to new, and arranged for the old hardware to be properly disposed of. Bottom line, Danny's smart, fast and a pleasure to work with! read more

Danny saves my weekend again! I have been using D J Computers for many years now, because Danny really knows his stuff. My PC had been displaying odd behavior for a few weeks, often failing to restore from Sleep Mode. One morning, it would not boot from a cold start, and I broke out in a cold sweat! WTH?! I unplugged the power cable, waited a few minutes, plugged the power cable back in and viola! It started, but the next morning the same thing happened again, and this time, removing and then reconnecting the power cable did nothing. Sh*t! I had just received amazing news that I got a great new job in SF, and I could expect to receive a packet via e-mail on Monday morning. Not having my PC would be a major impediment to moving this happy process forward. I had shot a video of the failed boot on my phone for Danny's reference. I dropped the PC off at Noon, showed him the video, and then waited for a call. Two hours later it was ready to go! Apparently, the capacitors in a motherboard can build up a charge that doesn't get released, and this prevents the boot up sequence. Danny reset the motherboard and I was back in business! The very best service experience I've ever had. When my son's laptop suddenly went out a few weeks ago, my first thought was to send it in to the manufacturer (MSI) for repair. Conveniently, the warranty had recently expired. They told me I had to pre-pay a $69 diagnostic fee and ship it to their technician to get an estimate ($17 shipping). When the estimate was emailed to me - with no information other than the words "Main Board" - the quote was $1,257 to repair this laptop. I told MSI to send it back to me. Without having much hope, I took it in to DJ Computers to see if there was any possibility of repairing it for less. Within a few hours, Danny left me a voicemail: Good news, your son's laptop is working again. The fee? $135 for diagnosis and repair. Danny took the time to explain to me how capacitors work and what he needed to do in order to reset a capacitor so that powering-on could once again be achieved. I hate to leave a less than good review, but this might be helpful for other people dealing with a crashed SSD drive. Last week I took my laptop in to rescue what data I could from a failed SSD drive. I was charged $60 to "take a look", which consisted of plugging the computer to another one in order to read the hard drive. Got a call back saying the drive was gone, the data was kaput. But when I talked to the owner at pickup, he mentioned that he could "see some files". I walked away wondering why, then, he didn't offer to try to rescue those files for additional charges. Fortunately one of my neighbors kindly volunteered to help me. It was a straightforward process for him to read the drive with diagnostic software, copy the contents to an external drive, and start rescue software. Most of the time was passive, letting the software do its thing. (This was exactly what I'd expect a computer repair shop to do.) In short order he gave me a USB with my documents. About half were readable, which was better than I'd hoped. I wouldn't recommend going to DJ Computers if you want an earnest effort to recover data from a crashed SSD. read more
