    Vegan cheese stix
    Tamra F.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a calzone place near UConn that offers vegan options since there doesn't seem to be many veg options around campus. Last night I picked up the vegan time zone calzone (which has daiya cheese, peppers, mushrooms, and onions) it was a little too cheesy for me which is rare for me to say since I usually like cheesy stuff. It just felt like it was missing something too. If they offered vegan meat like vegan sausage or meatball then it prob would've tasted much better, but I still appreciate them just offering dairy free cheese. The real winner here was the cheese stix. I got the vegan version and it was really tasty. I haven't had good cheesy stix in a long time so my tummy was definitely happy with this. I would for sure go back for it again next time I am up there visiting my niece at UConn. They also have a fairly big parking lot that is shared with other restaurants. I went on a Saturday night, but didn't have any issues with parking.

The best calzone you can get for under $10. DP Dough is open later for all your late night needs. My go to is the chicken parm with jalapeño ranch to dip in. A good second choice is plain cheese with hot sauce. Regardless of what you get you can't go wrong & they have a million different options.

Great food most of the time but they are dumb as hell. I ordered the speed zone cause it was the calzone of the day and it was a few bucks cheaper. Don't eat chicken as much anymore nor do I like spinach so I got rid of those on the website order. They called back and told me I couldn't order the calzone of the day without all the ingredients. Da f**k? I'm getting less ingredients and the rest of the other ingredients stayed the same. At the end of the day I cut it open and got rid of the things I didn't ask for. It was some good bread, sauce and barely any cheese .....for $7.....thanks dipper dough.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. I ordered it at 5:00, it's now 8:00 and nothing. I've called 3 times and each time I've been hung up on.

DP Dough calzones are amazing. Crispy outside, chewy crust. My favorite is BBQ Chicken Zone: BBQ Chicken, BBQ Sauce, Bacon and Cheddar.

After the first bite of their mixed grill, I immediately understood why this is his favorite spot. This small shop can get busy, but it's well-staffed and efficiently run. The employees take pride in what they do. the cashier welcomes you with a smile, and the owner is always present, making sure everything is prepared correctly. The food is surprisingly delicious, and the portions are huge! definitely generous for a campus restaurant. There's plenty of seating inside, with additional tables outside. The ordering style is similar to Chipotle: you pick your base and sides, and they build your plate right in front of you. Smart and familiar. I come through UConn often, and Gansett has become one of the reasons I enjoy stopping by Storrs-Mansfield. If you're in the area, give them a try. I'm sure you won't regret it!

Even as a vegetarian, I feel like I have plenty of options to choose from. Service is always friendly and helpful, even when asking for substitutions. Their rewards program is great and adds up pretty quickly. Here are some highlights about a few menu items I've tried over the years: - Eggplant parm grinder: delicious, crunchy bread and tons of melted cheese - no longer available, but I really loved their Caesar Veggie Patty sandwich they used to have on a fresh ciabatta roll. I'd get it for takeout all the time during the pandemic, and it was a great meatless option with a unique flavor blend. Please bring this back!! - Tater tot side: tastes like McDonald's hash browns in the best way possible, so light and fluffy. I could probably eat a bucket of these and they were cooked to perfection! - Side salads / any salad: always fresh, and the parmesan peppercorn dressing is my favorite version of it I can get anywhere! - Meatless wings (aka cauliflower bites): tons of sauces to choose from, and a unique offering I don't see often. The portion is huge! I love the parmesan garlic option but they're quite oily, so if you're getting takeout, beware - and have friends to split with because you'll get a ton! Tasty but I never need more than a few pieces worth - great to share. I also got a margarita flight today for their Sunday special, making it only $12 for 3 flavors that you can choose. They were sweet and not too boozy tasting, yet strong, and went down easily - I was impressed! Their beer and drink special menu is always changing and I can always find quality and unique offerings. The only thing I'd wish would be different is the ambiance. It's just always so dang dark in here, it makes me tired and feel like I'm in a much divier place than I am. They also always have this habit of seating you directly across from the one or two other occupied booths, so it feels like your neighbor can hear everything you're saying when it's not as busy. I really hate that and would appreciate more privacy! We also hate when we're seated in the first room by the entrance - it feels like such an afterthought, and sometimes staff is sitting in a booth right near you rolling silverware...just seems like you're not supposed to be there. Some of the booths by the bar are really small, and even when I'm the only one on my side, it feels like I'm about to fall out sideways, so I ask for a larger booth. The food and menu options here are truly great! My family requests to come here often. I just desperately want another light fixture or two and some more personal space while dining. Happy hour specials are also great, but they're not joking when they say you HAVE to sit at the bar for them! (Again a less nice atmosphere when you do that) Thanks for all the yummy memories, RRC, you're a much needed gem in the area!

A while back, they retired Medium-sized pizzas, which was rather disappointing; when you're feeding a family of 4, Mediums were a handy size to appease everyone's tastes without needing to spend a fortune. But it's Midway's pricing on their pizza toppings that most irritates me. Midway intentionally charges the same amount for a half topping as a full topping. A large pizza with pepperoni? That'll be $21.45 (ouch). Pepperoni on just half the pizza? That'll be $21.45. And my personal favorite: pepperoni on half and mushrooms on the other half? That'll be $23.95. Because now you're paying for a 2-topping pizza. If you go the deli counter at the grocery store and order a half-pound of ham, does it cost the same as ordering one full pound of ham? No. A half-pound costs half as much. Because you are receiving half as much. Pizza toppings should be no different. And at 99% of pizza joints I've eaten at, half-toppings cost half as much. But not at Midway. Initially I thought it was one person's error or a software glitch. But I spoke to the owner about it once. He apologized and said he'd fix it, giving me a partial refund (which never actually appeared on my account.) And it's happened every one of the 3 or 4 times we've ordered pizza since then. And their website's online ordering follows the same pricing. It's absolutely intentional. I like to support local businesses but this kind of intentional price gouging is a major turnoff and it has made Midway an order of last resort instead of a go-to for us. Maybe $2.50 seems like silly grounds for a rant. But 2 large half-n-half pizzas for a family of 4 means I've been overcharged $5. Order pizza once a week and that's $20/month. It adds up - as does my frustration.
