STEER CLEAR FROM D.R. HORTON HOMES. I purchased a D.R. Horton Home. Parts of the insulation in the ceiling/attic was missing. When they finally did come to fix it, they made a huge opening in the living room and used a different paint to cover. The area that was "fixed" is very visible. ALL 3 bedrooms upstairs are so hot that my son has to open the window in his room even during the winter when it was literally freezing outside just to get fresh air. I have had to purchase 3 portable air conditioners just to try to keep the rooms cool. I have sent e-mails regarding this issue to no avial. The cabinets in the kitchen are of poor quality. They cabinets are bending due to the weight of the plates and dishes. I do not have that many dishes. I also had to buy small wooden boards to hold up the cabinets since they are bending so badly. I have had to do this with all of my kitchen cabinets. The indoor doors are so flimsy, they are coming apart at the top after I put a cloth hanging shoe rack. I had to take it down since the panel on door was coming off. When I bought the house, the back door had a huge dent in it as if someone kicked it in. When I requested to have the door replaced, the building engineer or manager or field supervisor ( whatever his title is) told the guys to cover it up with some paste. I know because I arrived when the guy was trying to cover it up and shape it to make it look like it was new. Some of the floor boards were not cut to an accurate length and they just put another piece of floor board to reach the corner wall. It is not in one piece as it should be. It is a short wall. Some of the floor tiles have noticeable chips in them and they refused to fix them. There are multiple "cosmetic" issues such as that and the field supervisor said they DO NOT FIX COSMETIC ISSUES, even though they caused these issues. The laminate flooring they use is extremely of poor quality. The boards started warping within a year and I only use a damp mop to mop. After I mop I have to go back and dry the floor with a towel like Cinderella just to make sure the floor is dry. That is the only way I have been able to keep it from warping even more-so. The sod they put down is the cheapest available and under the sod is all rock. You can't dig 2 inches without running into rocks. The irrigation has cheap parts.I can't even use the irrigation due to the heads breaking so often. I have tried to replace the heads but then another breaks. The steps to enter the home are not properly leveled so the water pools on the stepd when it rains or when I water. I have to be putting bleach to remove the algae that builds up when the water stays. There are so many issues with this house. It takes a lot of time just to keep the house maintained on things that shouldn't take all that time had it been properly built. D.R. Horton uses cheap materials and cheap labor. I would come to check on the house when it was being built. On one occasion I found a worker asleep on the concrete. There were beer bottles everywhere. I have so many stories to tell from my experience.. Don't make the same mistake I did. I regret buying a D.R. Horton home. PLEASE LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE. D.R.Horton needs to have their Lanscaping contractor to lay sod the proper way. My sod is all lumpy, no tops soil was laid underneath the sod, the irrigation pips are not run deep enough and they left a ton of rocks right under the sod. read more

If you haven't closed, run away. I have never regretted anything more in my life than signing the closing docs on our Dr horton 'home'. It is built very badly...so very badly. The company run hoa is worthless. I wish multiple times a day we didn't live here and we can't afford to move. read more

First, I loved the area and I was impressed by the size of the homes and the beautiful neighborhood they created. Once I moved in to the home, (6 months ago) I did experience some electrical and most recently plumbing issues. A faulty HOUSELINE install by their subcontractor, Gibson Plumbing was repaired by SA Ace Sprinkler. I'm thinking it was probably best that Gibson didn't repair because they probably would have not been honest about the reason for the failure in the first place. Dealing with just their office personnel tells me I dodged a very expensive bullet. DR Horton won't budge on taking responsibility for their subs shoddy work. As you see other reviews saying the same thing, think carefully before buying a home from DR Horton. read more

Emerald Home by D.R.Horton I have been having problems with my home that I moved into in May 2018. Roof leak that I have been working with warranty at least 4 times now. Same problem but the last rain shorted some electrical lines. Now my family's safety is in question. No one seems to want to take this issue seriously. We have been patient in working with Emerald Homes including us missing 3-4 days of work time every time this happens. My wife scheduled an inspection today but then they cancelled this morning in which my wife have already missed work, waiting for them. We have been very patient and cooperative, accommodating with their time, as we miss work and use our days off for the repairs and inspections. We have been professional with them and with their staff.. I have a feeling that not too many people are as accommodating and cooperative as us and I truly believe that if this is happening to anyone, they will be speaking to a lawyer already. read more

While the grounds are impressive, the location is convenient and there is unity within the community, please be weary of DR Horton and express homes. There are a lot of major plumbing issues that DR Horton is slowly fixing on the homes built in the last 5yrs and the newer Express homes have good bones but sub par finishings. If you DO decide to move here... GET A THIRD PARTY INSPECTOR. Be prepared to fight the sales team (specifically Roger) to deliver on promises made when you sign, because he will dodge calls and conveniently place all accountability on others. The superintendent Kevin is only in it to get incentives from his buddies at Jason's water softeners. He will use scare tactics to convince you that using any other company will void your warranty (which is a lie). Some major items from our walk through were not fixed before our closing, such as a 13inch gouge in the wood floor. When we requested documentation that it would be fixed in a timely manner after closing, or we would not sign, they first refused in an attempt to call our bluff. When we took back our checks, they took us seriously. Why would it come to that? I'm paying for a new home... we didn't gouge the floor, why would I pay to fix it. Isn't that the point of buying new?! Think of this: would you buy a brand new car from a dealership with a 13 inch scratch on the door? (Me either) DR Horton as a company is dishonest and wouldn't even support/back their own employees (whom they threw under the bus when accountability was questioned at our closing). We were an easy sale and low maintenance until we asked for what was promised. We had a bad experience during our purchasing process. Maybe you will too, maybe you won't. If you do decide to purchase here... educate yourself, get professional third party assistance assessing the property and DEMAND a final walk through before closing. Stay far away from DR Horton homes!!! They are so poorly built and dealing with them as they still run our HOA has been horrible! They are not transparent with the HOA budget in spite of the high fees. It takes forever to get anything fixed in the neighborhood. We have had lots of problems with our house that was built in 2015. At first glance the home was amazing and had a perfect layout! We had a time frame to meet for purchase due to year end incentives. The Express Home(DRHorton) had so many issues as a new build would some what have either way. Major problems were work around like cutting window locks to make them work, no sealant around the tub, not passing code in multiple areas. Once we got our third party inspector Jerry, we had a large amount of problems to fix! We were at closing and stated that we were not going to sign for the home until we have a letter stating these items will be fixed. Sales representative Roger in Redbird Ranch stated that Kevin our superintendent was out of town and they cannot back him up for repairs. Even though they all work for DRHorton! Customer service was horrible and luckily I am very well aware how to locate flaws in a home! The actual build of the home is solid but the other items such as windows, doors, handles were installed by a worker that is not trained. Also the landscape is below par! We are dealing with growing the roots before it dies since it was placed on top of rocks and trash by 3-D landscaping! Word of advice look elsewhere or get a third party inspector during and after the build. read more
