Overpriced potato wrap with some meat. Good taste but mostly potatoes, especially when I ordered a beef roti and a lamb roti. Each was mostly potatoes. Not good. On top of that, I was charged over $36 just for those 2 items. Service was OK with only 2 employees and the eating area only had a few seats, about 5 seats. I had been looking for Caribbean roti for years. We found this place on Google and gave it a shot. Walked in and felt at home. I got a beef roti but by the time I'd left I'd bought more food. We got fried plantain, pone and macaroni pie. I couldn't wait so I ate the roti there. Bring your hunger for the roti it's filling. Loved it. Great food. The service was good too. Everyone was really nice and friendly. The plantains were fried well and delicious. The corn soup was new to me and had great flavor. The only thing that threw me off was the corn was still on the cob, making it hard to eat. The rotis were fire. The lamb and chicken both were seasoned so well and tender. My sister and I took a half of each and found ourselves looking for the meat, so I think we could have used a bit more meat. It seemed like we had more roti than filling. My spouse and I met my sister here for a late lunch yesterday, and it was a fantastic experience. I've only had this style of roti once, in Montreal, and my experience there left me with a really high standard. D's meets that standard and then some. I ordered the paratha roti with lamb, and it came served as a stew with the bread on the side. (I don't know what the traditional way is, and frankly I didn't care.) The stew was cooked to perfection, a savory and peppery delight. The bread was hot and fresh, and delicious. I also tried the red pea soup, which was also a savory and peppery delight. Just amazing. The portions were generous enough that we saved most of my entree and ate it for dinner. We also took home a couple of slices of a lemon pound cake that was moist and delicious. The place isn't fancy, but it's clean and cozy and there are a few tables in the small dining area if you want to eat there. There is plenty of unmetered street parking out front and around the corner, too. I highly recommend this place, and I hope to be returning soon. read more

Okay so I will have to say I will go again the food was spot . I had the lamb roti with the roti wrap and then I had the other one chicken, deconstructed roti . I cannot remember the name but it had the roti wrap on the side . It was so good and flavorful and buttery . Everything was delicious . While at a wedding reception, my husband asked the woman seated opposite us where she was from. She said Trinidad. Through conversation she mentioned her friend just opened a restaurant on the south side. So we had to check it out. It's carry-out only, but don't let that stop you from going. They never miss with the quality and portion of the food here. They were temporarily closed for a minute and I was so happy to see that they were back. The food is so comforting and well seasoned. I'm not sure if the curry chicken roti has been discontinued but I order the stew chicken this time and it was just as good. I thank the heavens above for a truly authentic Trinidadian eatery in Chicago! Pretty much the only Trinidadian spot around (besides Cafe Trinidad within the same hub) I believe. Although this was my first time trying Trinidadian cuisine, the authenticity really speaks for itself, in terms of food quality and hospitality. Dawn and her husband, the owner, were super sweet which I appreciated. I could tell they poured 150% of their heart and soul into everything I ordered. Now that's what I call top-notch hospitality!! The one doubles (with my choice of tamarind and "shado beni" sauces) I had was absolutely AMAZING!! No wonder everybody raves about these! I am profoundly grateful I can now vouch for these Trinidadian treasures myself. The lamb dhalpuri roti was like a flavor explosion in my mouth! I really savored the curry flavors in the filling, primarily consisting of boneless lamb chunks and potatoes. The slivered cucumbers and pepper sauces I opted to add garnished my roti perfectly. I had no idea the roti would resemble the size and weight of merely a small anvil, but in no way can I complain, as it was exceptionally filling and satisfying! The callaloo I ordered as a side was rich and garlicky which I enjoyed. I could taste both love and comfort baked into their macaroni pie, my other side. A last minute google search and found this spot to our delight. Marvin and his wife were so friendly and hospitable. The food was amazing! We had doubles, currants roll and a chicken dhalpuri and i even left with some shadon benny! The dhalpuri was so soft and light and the food was full of so much authentic flavor. This made the drive from Michigan to chicago worth it. The location was easy to find with parking readily available on the street. The restaurant was clean with seating for having a quick bite in house. The service really was really above and beyond, in house and for pickup orders as we could see Marvin taking pickup orders outside to his customers. A definite gem we'll visit again! read more

Had the Dhalpuri Lamb Roti -- absolutely amazing! As an Indian-American, I always enjoy eating foods that have some trace of Indian origin that have been improved by the diaspora (and by non-Indians). This stuff was sooooo good. I savored every blazing hot spicy bite. I'm no Trinidadian obviously but this place only increases my desire to get down there some day. Fried dough topped with chickpeas, they added a spicy chutney which was my fav. This dish is so tasty and delicious. Only complaint here is that by taking the food to go , it can get a bit soggy. - Curry Chicken Paratha- so tasty! Flavorful curry with chicken chickpeas and potato , loved this curry and would definitely get it again -Chicken Pelau w/ slaw- liked this dish , didn't love it. The pigeon peas in seasoned rice one of the reasons we got it. The flavor seemed to be slightly lacking and the chicken in this dish wasn't as good as the curry but again unique flavors! The slaw was a bit too sweet for me. -Side of Macaroni Pie- what's not to love, it's baked Mac and cheese. So good and decadent All the side sauces are great, if you like spice/heat , highly recommend getting extra red chutney! We placed our order online and picked up at their location in South Loop Food Company. This is a great place! We used to go to Cafe Trinidad, but then they turned into a to go place and went up north and their quality went down. I waited for a Trinidadian restaurant that was authentic in every way and Dawn delivered. Every dish, every bite, every seasoning, and all the love poured into the dishes are what we were waiting for.
