I did a semester in the bachelor of science business program. I got a 4.0 but I won't be returning for a variety of reasons. Students are an afterthought at DYC. I understand the pandemic through a lot of things into chaos, but this was already supposed to be a fully on-line on-demand program for working people, and my concerns are mostly not pandemic related. DYC wants your money and doesn't care about you as a person. While the admissions folks were very responsive and in constant contact, that all ended once I became a student. Professors were not responsive nor was the head of the department when I had general questions about the program. Additionally, the program the admissions folks sold me on does not in fact exist. I was under the impression I could attend on-line, full time, on demand (meaning no set class times), and that the classes were offered in succession - meaning taking one class at a time for a month each rather than 4 classes concurrently for the whole semester. After I started, I was concerned about the lack of course offerings and was told that "full-time" in an on-line program meant 2 classes per semester. How is that full-time? It would take someone 8 years to complete their bachelors from scratch. That is not full-time, even by their own financial aid definition. I was new to this whole "pay several hundred dollars for an on-line text book and exclusive access to all your tests and quizzes" models but I had heard about this. Before I started, I was aware that the textbook industry was not lucrative enough because they make no money on the sale of used books. However, if I am paying several hundred dollars for a third party vendor to provide the tools to teach myself, why is there even a professor? Why not drop the professor and include the cost of this robot professor in the cost of tuition? Why am I paying the same price for YouTube videos that others are paying for 6 hours a week of live instruction? If you want an idea of the quality of the education, look at the some correspondent from the president of the school. She would get an F for grammar, punctuation, ability to coherently express a thought, and, if she didn't actually write it, plagiarism. There's a way to denote in a business letter that someone else drafted it. "I regret to inform you as a result of the continuing novel coronavirus pandemic, you can see the crises [sic] has touched every aspect of our lives and has severely impacted a variety of businesses." -President Lorrie Clemo. I don't mind paying for an education but the BS in Business seems like a lot of money just for a piece of paper. Even with a tuition waiver, it wasn't work the money or time investment. read more

Do not I repeat do not waste your time and money. I went to the college for my BSN and my FNP. The programs are extremely disorganized, finding clinical placement is close to impossible. Nothing is facilitated, once you pay your tuition you are basically forgotten. They fire staff who actually care and teach, and instead hire ones who are clearly only there for the money. I am extremely disappointed, my bachelors program wasnt horrible. However, the FNP program went through multiple deans while I was there. No one is in communication with each other. read more

Let me preface this by stating that I have a 4.0 in the FNP program so to be clear this is an unbiased, non-retaliatory review. The program was quoted at $900 per credit in 2021. When I received my bill I was charged $1000+ per credit and was told that the cost was not $900. Only after providing a screenshot of the program cost (yes, I'm anal) was the excess amount refunded. I was then provided with a link reflecting new tuition cost despite the previous webpage indicating $900/credit remaining active. FYI the link provided was not active and instead displayed an error message. From 2021 to 2023, tuition for the FNP program increased to $1100+ per credit, greatly increasing the cost of the total program. Notice of increase was never provided in advance. After inquiring, I was told that it would increase every summer by an unspecified, uncapped amount, a practice which is deceitful and predatory considering students won't likely withdraw after completing a year of the program (before the initial increase). Students are required to find preceptors with minimal if any assistance. After securing a preceptor, the program charges a preceptor fee which allegedly is paid to the preceptor...who has already agreed to precept without the expectation of compensation. The fee is $1000+ with no option to opt out. The professors are mediocre at best and often provide inaccurate information that conflicts with the text. When clarification is requested, we are told to disregard the text (and every other resource confirming the professor's inaccuracy). If you are a self-taught individual with a strong science/nursing background, you will likely be ok. Otherwise, go to a school that is actually worth the money and doesn't employ questionable practices. read more

As a basis of comparison to many other schools, D'Youville college is highly over priced. However with saying that, you have to keep in mind that it IS a private school and isn't funded by the government. Second off, I find that the level of education is a lot less, how shall I say, challenging compared to bigger schools. As long add you put in the effort into doing the work & studying (granted this doesn't apply to all classes), you'll get an A or at least a relatively decent mark. However, I do agree with previous remarks about the area. You definitely have to familiarize yourself with your surroundings. That being said, D'Youville does offer escorts with their security guards if you live in the area. They can walk you home! In my experience, most Buffalonians are extremely friendly and helpful; so don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it. It's a small school & really gives you the opportunity to meet people... whether it be through student groups, socials or just collecting freebies. The professors, too, are absolutely amazing (well, most of them anyway). It's your education that you're here for, no doubt; but take some time to enjoy the college experience! read more

I am an alumni of D'Youville College (class of 2016) and I absolutely loved the school. I'm a bit surprised at reading the negative reviews but everyone's experience will never be the same. Prior to my time at D'Youville, I obtained a B.S. at a local city-funded college (CUNY) in New York City so, my experience compared to that is why I think D'Youville was so great. I attended D'Youville for the dietetics dual-degree program. I will say that initially going there, I had a number of set backs. For one, the fact that I paid my deposit for housing but they never solidified a spot for me. At the last minute, I was forced to find housing off-campus because there were no more dorms or apartments left on campus. Additionally, I was granted work-study but there weren't many jobs left by the time the semester started. I ended up having to take whatever was left which included coming to campus at 7am for a half hour shift then going to class at 9. All-in-all this did not hinder my experience. D'Youville has some of the best programs for health professions - physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, etc. My program was a small department but the staff were amazing. Each faculty member had a wealth of experience to offer to my aspirations. They were tough but it was all for the best. The amenities at the school were amazing when compared with my previous college - 2 computer labs, free printing for students (this was eliminated during my last year), and a wealth of places to study quietly. Moreover, D'Youville's mission focuses on helping the community, which is something dear to my heart. I was given so many opportunities to help within the school and outside, while still gaining academic credit. The price of tuition is definitely expensive however, for everything I gained in the process, it was well-worth it. The school offers a lot of scholarship and jobs on campus, so some of the burden can be lifted from your pockets. Also, you must take into account that this is a private school, there are a lot of things you will see and receive here that may not be available at city and state colleges. I have been back to the school recently and they are moving away from their catholic traditions slowly but surely, and have expanded a lot more; nonetheless the programing, offerings, and staff still remain as great. I continue to share my experience with others in hope that they will attend and have the same great memories that I have. I hope that my children will also be open to attending such a great institution. Highly recommended! read more

This review is for the amphitheater in which the graduation was held this May 2016. I like the seating of the guests & graduates in location to the stage, and we got there earlier enough to sit on the lower level with a good view anywhere you sat. The upstairs balcony was filled later. The stage was filled with honorees & staff. The music was loud enough & the speakers were heard well. I wish the bathroom was closer, the women had to go upstairs and across the entire building to find the restroom. It was an older building, definitely some history though not as old as others around at D'youville, but I enjoyed the ceremony. read more

I came here for an interview and liked the school, staff at the school are really accommodating. They really seem to be student centered. But I walked around the vicinity of the campus for 45 mins and all I saw was a rite aid, a 7-11 and a little asian grocery store. read more

Severely overpriced for the quality of the education they provide. Where to even begin... First of all I graduated with a 3.8something from here, so this isn't a "disgruntled," failed student speaking. I got my masters from here (special education with a concentration in social studies) between '06-'08 and I was not impressed with ANY aspect of the school aside from a few professors I enjoyed. Where to begin... Severely overpriced - even with $10k-ish in grant money (as I also finished my BS with a 3.8something) and paying constantly towards my degree while still in school I was $45k in debt when I finished. I didn't have to take any extra classes beyond what was required. This would have been fine if I left the degree feeling prepared for my field, but I didn't...in the slightest. I learned more about Special Ed and teaching in my Art Ed program at Buff State than I learned in my entire masters degree. Why? D'Youville will take ANYONE for an education masters, even if they have no education background from their bachelors, so loads of Canadians who can't get into "teacher's college" in Canada flock across the Peace Bridge to go here. Thus, 40-80% of every class was spent catching them up on stuff that the American students largely already knew, like how to write lesson plans, do outlines for units, etc. The Canadian students (no offense to all Canadians, I blame this on DYC's lax entrance policies) were largely far less mature, focused, on point or easy to work with in group settings. Just getting people to SHUT UP for class was a chore sometimes, which is really sad with people in their 20's who already have four year degrees, and as Allentown was a short walk away half of my classmates regularly showed up drunk after lunch break. This sounds like the plot for some hilarious antics on paper, but it sucked in real life, particularly when I was working 35 hours over the course of Friday-Sunday to be able to have my M-Thurs schedule free for classes only to deal with red-faced morons who couldn't focus long enough to get through a lecture. My financial aid was repeatedly messed up and going before my bejeweled, overly made-up, arrogant middle-aged counselor (when I could get an appointment with her) felt like asking for more porridge at the orphanage. At one point I caught her in a bold-faced lie when I went to a different counselor during her vacation, however once he realized she had told me something contradictory to actual school policy he clammed up and refused to help me. She told me at one point that I should "live with six people" or do "whatever it takes" to find more money when I was having financial issues due to a short illness-related hospital stay. I'm surprised I didn't have nightmares about her singing "Kill the Poor" given her attitudes towards the lower-middle class. I had a friend in nursing who also regularly had financial aid issues, one time having $5k plus in money "disappearing" from her financial aid package because her counselor didn't dot some I or cross some t on a document and then refused to rectify the situation. On the upside, she did say their nursing program was otherwise excellent. The facilities are meh - nothing special, some out dated, tiny library, classes in the same subject not held in the same area or even in the same building. The biggest pro to this school was that I didn't have to get recertified in Special Ed after my Art Ed bachelors to get a masters in Special Ed here (which any other school required, obviously I see now with good reason) and the location was a convenient, quiet walk from my Elmwood-near-Summer apartment or driving in on the 190 when I lived in NT. read more

I transferred to D'Youville from a university in California. Spending a semester at D'Youville College has singlehandedly been the worst semester of my entire life. Yes, this tops semesters in middle school where I was repeatedly punched in the face by bullies. There are many reasons D'Youville is a terrible college, and I will explain them all in this review. D'Youville helped me a lot with money (in the beginning). They awarded me a TEACH grant, as I was majoring in Adolescent Education/English. This was the reason my parents allowed me to go to D'Youville, because of this generous grant. I was excited to go to a new school, make new friends, and be close to my girlfriend. So finally, I moved up there. I was initially disappointed, mainly because the college was kinda boring and the area around was clearly dangerous (do not carry your wallet at night around D'Youville). The college area itself was pretty, but the second you step off the campus, it gets really trashy really quickly. Terrible area, terrible neighborhood. Finally, move-in time. I was expecting to meet a lot of people on my floor, but nobody came out of their rooms. Literally. I walked around my dorm floor, and there was nobody. This happened every night. I still, to this day, have only met my roommate from my floor. Nobody is sociable, nobody is nice, nobody cares. The dorms are alright, if you're lucky enough to get a room with a bathroom. But only two rooms per floor have that, so if you don't, you're out of luck. Anyway, the teachers are terribly boring. It feels like high school all over again. Yes, the small class sizes are a plus, but that is literally the only positive thing I can say about D'Youville. But the teachers are mostly old, they are boring, they do nothing fun or fresh to make class exciting. I found myself dreading every class. And in no case should you ever sign up for an online class.... They are HORRIBLE. Especially if you're accustomed to a traditional classroom setting. The online classes were incredibly difficult to understand. And sorry, it's difficult to stay focused when you have to sit and listen to a boring woman lecture about psychology for an HOUR. Yes, her lectures were an HOUR and they were just an audio file, so you were stuck staring at your computer screen for hours at a time. How is that conducive to learning at all? How in the world is that a positive learning environment? Also, say you want to drop a class. For comparison, to drop a class at my last university you could just log on online to your student account and drop a class, and that was it. That's all you had to do. Click a link, and boom, you're out of the class. This university, I found, was very different. First, get a form from the registrar. Then, fill out this lengthy form. Then, get a signature from your advisor, get a signature from a financial advisor, and run it back up to the registrar. As if that wasn't complicated enough, my advisor was only on campus for two hours per week... And guess what, one of my classes coincided with that hour! So to drop a class, I had to skip a class just to get a signature from my advisor. Very complicated, very unnecessary, very archaic. I mean, we're still using forms in 2014? You would think such an expensive university would perhaps use the money to create a useful way to do things at this university, but clearly that's too much to ask. In late October, I got a random call from the finance office. They said, "Hey, we can't give you that TEACH grant anymore, sorry!" I was astounded. Flabbergasted. So now, out of no where, I owe much more money to this university. That means I can't go to D'Youville next semester (a blessing in disguise). I found out that they didn't award it to me because I "didn't maintain a 2.5 at my university last semester" which just wasn't true. I ran up to the registrar, and she showed me my file. Apparently, my last college sent the transcripts before the second semester ended, so the second semester showed up as "in progress" on my transcripts. That's why they took the TEACH grant away. First of all, I would AT LEAST expect a call from D'Youville earlier, letting me know that my college hadn't sent my complete transcript. But nope, no call whatsoever. They didn't even check. Second of all, why would you even award me the grant without seeing my complete transcripts??? If i had known that I wouldn't get the TEACH grant, I wouldn't have attended D'Youville! Absolutely ridiculous. Finally, the worst of all... The cafeteria. The cafeteria was actually staffed with incredibly courteous people. But the hours were horrific. I mean, only open for an hour an a half? What if I have classes? (Which I did, had to go hungry on Mondays). I ended up having to spend a lot of my own money because the cafeteria was closed more often than it was open. Listen to me: Don't go to D'Youville. Terrible people, terrible staff, terrible college, terrible waste of money and time. read more

Their services for international students are a joke. The administrators in the international students office do not have the faintest idea how to help international students who need to get SSNs, drivers licenses, post-graduate visas, on-campus jobs, or anything else that a person living in another country might need. They don't give the students any information about how to build up credit or find financial assistance as non-resident aliens, they don't care about providing services for emotional support when students are away from their families for years at a time. All they know how to do is stamp your 1-20 and host pizza parties. When I arrived at D'Youville I barely had an orientation, I had no idea how to use the public transport system or to get a SIM card for my phone so I could let my family know I was alright. I didn't even have internet access to find these things out for myself because no told me how or where to set up an account with the IT department. YOU NEED TO DO BETTER. These students are in your care and have no one else. I have been in the states for over five years now and I can categorically say that I found out everything I needed to know from figuring it out on my own or asking other international friends who had figured it out on their own. If you are an international student thinking of going to D'Youville I would seriously reconsider because you will get no support whatsoever. read more
