I swim at the pool every other day and use the treadmill and machines the other days. When I have needed help on machines, someone has always come and helped and did not make me feel stupid at 68, younger people can due that without even knowing they are. All the young staff I feel are well-trained and very friendly. But today, 6/9 AM, a new gal was a life guard she sat on the bench waiting with her friend to get a lane for laps A young man was on the guard chair. She sat for a while with her friend on the bench and was on her phone, looking down and not at the pool at all. She climbed up the second guard chair when exercise class started and ate a cookie it did not look good! I hate to complain but when anyone is in pool and they are on deck full attention should be on pool. TY read more

Dahl Family YMCA is an excellent gym in the La Crosse area. While it could be bigger and the front staff could be more friendly, the price, amenities, and cleanliness is top notch. This is an excellent value for the membership fees. There are so many classes and they are included in the membership. Overall, this is an excellent place for all members of the community, young and old. Highly recommend. read more

Staff is extremely rude. I had been going to the gym daily for the past month, I walked in and they said They went through and terminated inactive accounts the night before. My account was charged 3 days before they terminated my account. After charging me for that month the employee told me i had to pay them another $70, claimed that i had to pay for February and march which had already been paid months ago, said another $20 of that was a fee because I turned 19 years old. showed them my statement, said I would still have to pay and that IT would verify my February and March payments and refund me for the $50 they were demanding that day Still said i had to pay the age fee. The guy wanted to take a picture of my statement to verify it with IT. Extremely sketchy situation would not recommend this gym to anyone. read more

Pros: The staff are all really friendly, they have a children's play area and gymnastics area, they offer discounted rates for low income individuals. The pool & hot tub are nice! Cons: The basketballs are pretty low quality so I suggest bringing your own ball. They have plenty of workout and running machines, but no designated space for use of yoga mats (for core exercise, stretching, etc). I also wish the steam room was a sauna because it is more relaxing and I enjoy the health benefits of saunas. read more

I use the pool quite a bit. They have six lanes and it never fills up at night. Some of the lifeguards are friendly. They have towels available for use and plenty of lockers. One end of the pool is very shallow and the other is very deep, but the water is clean. My only complaint is the hours. I usually like to swim after work but they only have hours late at night after 830/900PM which can be difficult sometimes with morning work schedule. I would recommend this place to others for swimming but the hours could use some work. read more

Honestly, I never thought I'd be muckraking such a venerable institution. But I've absorbed a lot of their advice about clean living over the years, and I think it's time to offer a bit of my own. Fair warning to those about to become members: the business office may not stop billing you, should you ever decide to discontinue membership, even if you end the contract in writing. If you ever need to discontinue membership for any reason, make sure that you monitor your credit card statements. (Sadly, you may need to block YMCA from re-billing you.) Just because someone decides to end their contract in writing, per YMCA's conditions, doesn't mean that the finalization of the contract finds its way to the right people. I get that large organizations are difficult to handle, that the person who claims to head the business department might claim they know nothing about updating member database records. My advice: if you list someone as a business office email contact, make sure that they have the knowledge and expertise to both answer and field member inquiries. If you can't solve the problem at hand, find someone who can. Here's questioning how wise is a business office that ignores an email request and hopes it goes away. read more

The wife has been going to the YMCA for about six-years, when we first moved here. When I retired in April I started attending classes and working out. This place is great, good equipment, clean, lots of options for both group classes and exercise equipment. The staff is beyond helpful, never feel bad about asking for something, and they are alway willing to go the extra mile to help. Attending the YMCA has changed our lives and we are better for it. The La Crosse Y gets five stars, because it really embraces what is important for an organization: a place to go for kids, sponsorships, great programming for adults and kids, and in a small town is a really nice way to engage with people. In addition, once they finish the expansion it will give the facility a much needed update. read more

There is never anywhere to park! It does not matter what time you try to go use the facility, you will spend 10 minutes looking for a parking spot. The locker rooms could also use some updating and be a little cleaner. On the plus side, they have a very nice staff and the new addition is very nice. read more

Love it. The Y helps out families so much with an affordable place to workout, kids to play and daycare. It's too bad they don't have more space outside for kids to play. I have my son enrolled in several sport programs every year there and take him to the play room and swimming pool every month. They are located on Main Street just down from the library. They have lots of parking available and is very clean. read more
