Or the German steak chain a couple hundred feet away in the other direction. I do like how they renovated this place from the previous look & feel of Pius. The interior architects did a nice job. It's a bit of a ski shack vibe and I wonder how this works in the summer but during the colder months it works. But we weren't here for the scenery. Staff was also quite nice. Everyone was polite and friendly. You can tell though that these are young guys and aren't experienced waiters. They try their best but there is only so much you can do. These aren't "meat experts" and I didn't even bother asking for wine recommendations and whatnot. Again, super nice and more like door-greeters at A&F so maybe visually appealing to the ladies but that's about it. So, what about the food you ask? I had a steak with the sides as per the menu. I asked for just a larger portion of sweet potato fries and they could leave out the rest. This immediately led to the comment that it would cost more. After questioning this decision I think they backed down on this but the portion of fries that then came wasn't really that much bigger (forgot to check the bill whether they did add to the total bill or not). No big deal but still kind of odd at this price point. The steak itself was also cooked medium well and not medium rare as I ordered it. Taste-wise it was also very bland and already almost on the cold side in terms of temperature. It really wasn't any better than a random rib steak I buy at the supermarket and throw on the grill. I'd almost bet that I get it done better at home. I don't go out for steak for this lack of taste. It was probably one of the more "blah" steaks I've eaten in a long time. Further, I know the cut is fairly fatty but I found the fat on my 300g piece to be like 120g or so. Seems a bit too much for me. I don't mind the fat...it's the flavour but too much and you feel ripped off. The waiter did offer us a round of free espressos at the end as I voiced my dislike with the steak but I highly doubt this will change things for the better down the road. The fries were OK too but thinner cuts and not as crispy as I would of liked. These could definitely use improvement. They also weren't presented in any special way. I know it's just fries but dumping them in a bowl is so uninspired. Do something creative....you are charging like 4 or 5 Euros per serving. From what I saw of my companions, their sides were no better. The asparagus looked overcooked....I didn't bother trying any and the cucumber salad...well, I hate cucumber salad so not going there. Finally, we had some dessert and I do have to admit the cheesecake was good but it seemed to have tasted no better than the typical frozen cheesecake you can get at the supermarket (try Coppenrath-Wiese...you'll know what I mean). The crust wasn't anything special and it was generic. I know this can be done better. It's also not rocket science to add your own personal touch and really make it good. This effort wasn't made here. In summary, I think this place will fall flat on it's face due to the high-rent location, high-priced food and low level of taste and presentation. In this price segment and in this part of town, you have to blow people away to just be above average. Brian's unfortunately is just average and it's average compared to other average steak places. It is not in the same class as Butchers, Meatery, Estancia and so forth. I'd recommend you save your money or go spend it elsewhere if up for a good steak.

Every visit is an astonishing experience. So far, all impressions have always been positive, but today I can only give 4 stars, since I was really very disappointed with the service. The waiter was visibly very crowded (restaurant was quite empty). Although she always recorded everything in writing, she still had to ask the customer again. This can of course be forgiven for an untrained and probably new workforce. However, the appetite has passed after I could clearly observe how it distorted the customer's own popcorn, even though she served every guest with a wet nose. The presence of the lady was also very small, since the time was rather spent with a girlfriend at the bar I am looking forward to the next visit and am excited!

All the spices were so perfectly balanced that suddenly all the food I'd ever eaten seemd bland. They had many waiters there today, pretty much one for each customer, what I found kind of amusing. But everyone was very friendly. The prices are ok. It's not super cheap (I paid 10€ for the noodles) but one has to consider the location in the city center and that it's actually tourist prices. So all in all it's not a place that I can afford every day, but I will still love to come back once in a while.
