A local paper that is supposed to serve all of Boulder county but really just serves the City of Boulder. The Camera is now in serious financial decline from years of serving the status quo and alienating readers rather than doing objective informational reporting. I began to loose respect for this paper when they came out with obnoxiously long editorials endorsing people like Richard Polk and then gently trying to justify themselves after he was arrested for drunk driving and drugs. The Camera is never critical of the City Council and you'll choke on the paper's lack of objectivity and political correctness. (And I use the term "arrested" loosely here. Richard Polk was ticketed and then taxied home by the Boulder Police.) The worst thing about the Camera is that it constantly runs down Longmont and allows it's readers to do so as well. What happened to "proudly serving Boulder County"? The reporters at the Camera are so stuck up that they think the City of Boulder IS Boulder County. The Camera runs down Longmont in so many subtle and overt ways-from only running articles about crime in Longmont, to encouraging abuse of the city by the posters on the web site, to misleading headlines, and never writing a single positive article about Longmont or it's citizens.Oddly enough, they never turn that same critical eye on the City of Boulder. And when crime in Longmont does happen, they devote days of articles to those crimes. When the same exact crime happens in Boulder, it gets a small mention and no follow-up. Look through Camera headlines for Longmont for the past several months-you'll be hard pressed to find a single one that is positive. And while you're there-check out the comments under those articles. It's entertaining, but a true indication of how nasty citizens of Boulder can be. And then there are the posters on the Daily Camera website-every single time there is an article about Longmont, Daily Camera readers comment over and over and over again about the hicks in Longmont, about "good old methmont", etc. The Camera refuses to censor these comments. But when someone bashes Boulder? The Camera kicks them off. Worse, I've seen Camera editors devote entire editorials to demanding apologies from Boulder bashers. But Longmont bashing is an acceptable Camera activity. I used to think I'd be upset when we didn't have a local paper, but the Camera is going bankrupt because of poor service-NOT the economy. Huge informational errors, biased reporting, Longmont bashing, militant defense of the status quo...who needs it? The one exception to this is Ryan Morgan. He seems to accurately report on the City Council. But John Aguilar and all the kooky editors and columnists? Terrible. Abysmal opinion pieces that only reflect the interests of the seemingly innocuous "white privilege". Apart from that, their writers do little to innovate and bring in topics to their readers, especially important ones. There is no Latinx recognition, nor the issues Boulder faces regarding this demographic. There is poor inclusion of people of color in their articles. A majority of the topics and opinions literally only reflect those who already afford to think in such ways. There is no talk about the contributions of people of color impact the city which makes me wonder if it is even appreciated at all. College towns generally gravitate towards artistry and cultural innovation although this publication yields little of that, especially with people of color. I am disappointed with how left-leaning publications are churning a morally justified form of white privilege and how this type of thinking supercedes even the opinions of those who are disproportionately affected. Talk about white-splaining. Despite hunting being a remarkable outlet for state-wide recreation and self-defense becoming a priority in many individual's lives, they don't respect or tolerate gun rights. The degree of white privilege is abhorrent. Imagine being part of a disproportionately affected demographic that ethically carries firearms but remains to be an invisible example of what a law-abiding, firearm-possessing person of color looks like? Are they not aware how their regurgitated opinions on gun control are what saturates the abysmal mentality existent in facets of abusive law enforcement? A facet where, repeatedly, we observe the abuse of law enforcement's tyrannical interpretation of legislature on people of color simply because they MAY possess a firearm? Makes me think they literally have no idea what possessing a firearm entails, nor do they have any interest how such an amendment protects people of color from the ghettos white culture has created. The disregard for disproportionately affected demographics combined with their virtue-centered writing is quite like a right-wing religious publication you would have the misfortune to read at a mega-church. It's quite like them asking: "Don't like what we publish? There's something wrong with you and we're far beyond justified because we obviously center ourselves in self-justified vacuum chambers of opinions. I'm ashamed of publications like this. They contribute to facets of our society that are culturtally divisive and serve only those who can bounce back from the cushion of privilege. My readings are generally left-leaning although I'm smart enough to realize when the writing resembles the flight of an uneven and lopsided bird after being encouraged in only needs one wing for flight. I appreciate cities that may lean left because there is always a progressive form of thinking that enables culture-shock and inclusion. It may not be widespread although, in some alley or business, it is happening. It is why I moved here although the aggressive and tasteless turn privileged liberalism takes is quite identical to the justified interpretations by religious zealots that will cause cultural, and subsequently, private afflictions. I can already imagine the disapproval and dismissal of those who either work for the publication, or simply approve of it. I appreciate cities that may lean left because there is always a progressive form of thinking that enables culture-shock and inclusion. It may not be widespread although, in some alley or business, it is happening. I should be clear: there is nothing progressive about excluding people of color from the majority of your publications, nor the dismissal of how gun control literally affects those who intend on ethically possessing them, especially if they're people of color. Again, being a pawn for the type of thinking that does little to help, or may directly contribute to the demise of any support for disproportionately affected people of color, is the primary issue that those of us face every day. This is disappointing. If you are seeking a publication where the writers are remarkably unchallenged yet praised for sharing their semi-digested meals from others that regurgitate the same opinions, you have found your penguin pals. read more

Every article written by the new hires seems to relate every topic to an experience they had in college. While every article written by the jogger, seems to relate every topic to jogging. In summation, this rag is little more than a pedo-funded advertising circular, barely held together by the most arrogant dorky white alpha males this whiteflight town can muster. read more

After enduring years of Boulder city-centric focus to the exclusion of much of Boulder County, with the inherent new-wave touchy-feely bent, on 2/23/2011 the Daily Camera printed a press release (thinly disguised as an article) from a rabbit slaughterer accompanied by a photo showing her holding and petting a rabbit she will kill and eat. The dishonesty and transparent endorsement of this wretched business was reprehensible. I cancelled my subscription, wrote to the editor, Yelped and will continue to use every opportunity to expose the journalistic train wreck that is the Daily Camera. read more

Garbage "paper". Garbage digital. Here's typical Daily Camera storytelling paired with marketing: a headline and photo about a child predator in your hometown, with 'SUBSCRIBER ONLY" over it. You can only read for free the things that don't matter, but anything salacious or possibly troubling or dangerous to you or your children will have to be paid for. The Daily Camera employs very low quality reporters who aren't really interested in accurate information. They are agenda-driven and want to follow their own story, not necessarily the truth. They don't report on half of what goes on in Boulder County and honestly, the interface is bad, the advertising is bad, the editing is bad. What is positive about it? I bought a year subscription to the Daily Camera which expired after 11 months. I called customer service to find out that they terminated my subscription early because they said they sent me a few "special editions", which I never received. How is it that a year subscription can be terminated before the year is up? The customer service agent, who sounded like a high schooler, was also very rude and unprofessional. read more

This publication consistently suffers from poor writing and editing. The writing lacks clarity and precision, which is expected from professional journalism. Many articles are difficult to follow and fail to engage the reader. Coming from out of state, I had the impression that Boulder was an educated town, but after reading the Daily Camera, it's hard to see that reflected in the quality of the writing. read more
