First of all thge location is spectacular, nestling in the beautiful Eskdale valley surrounded by stunning fells. Beware if you approach it via the awesome Hardknott pass as this isn't really suitable for anyone towing a caravan (or anyone of a nervous disposition) - come via Ravenglass instead. The site is well laid-out, very family-friendly, has excellent facilities (washing machines, drying room, great shower and toilets, shop), very well-run by the owners and great for accessing the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway, Eskdale cycle path and nearby Boot Inn. It's a quite site with a no-noise policy after 10pm that's strictly enforced. They also have a camping barn and camping 'pods' for those who want a bit more protection when the weather isn't great. Highly recommended.

The site is a mixture of caravans and tents. Despite turning up on spec, we were given a warm greeting and were quickly checked in. We had arrived on bikes, which they didn't mind at all. The toilet blocks are immaculate. The site is a short walk into Keswick which has plenty of restaurants and a couple of supermarkets - Spar is by far cheaper thn Booths. This site is a little gem. Very quiet. Not for the party crowd.

You can basically wake up in the morning have a nice warm shower, put your boots on and walk off in any direction for some fantastic hiking. Surrounded by Wainwrights it is usefull if you want to bag a few peaks in one trip. As mentioned there are two shower blocks both with male and female toilets and showers as well as laundry rooms on site there is a small shop and best of all just over the road the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel which is a fantastic hikers pub selling large meals to hungry walkers. If you fancy something a little more classy then about 15 minutes walk down the lane bring you to the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel which is also great. You have to try the scrumpy on draft its very good for messing with your head.

I camp and walk on my own and have always been made welcome. A short walk to the pub. There is a small shop in reception but this is adequate. There is no pre booking, however it is worth a telephone call as there is a pre-recorded message when it is full. If you want to get away for a weekends camp take the Friday off and you will enjoy it.

As you drive onto the campsite there are sacks of logs for you to buy - because here you can actually have a proper campfire(in the allocated fire circles. The site is a couple of large fields, a pond with a small kiddies playing area, a well maintained shower block and nothing much else. Set in the most idyllic out of the way place (although theres a couple of small pubs a short walk away). I live about 15 miles from here, and we often pack our tents after work and pop down here to spend the night chatting and relaxing round a campfire. Brilliant

The site is situated right on lake ullswater with amazing views out across the lake. It is also excellent value, costing around $20 for two people, a tent and a car. There are a few fields within the site so that familys, young groups and so on can be seperate so as the keep disruption to a minimum. The facilties are basic but adequate with toilets, showers and a small shop. There is also the oppurtunity to hire out boats/canoes for a few hours out on the lake. It can get a little busy out in the water though.

Don't get me wrong or think I'm being boring as we like to party and have a good laugh as much as anyone else it's just we have an 18 month old baby and therefore this quieter site therefore suits us. The site has many awards under its belt and also has its own pub what is an absolute must. The bar is an old barn and all are welcome including dogs. It has pretty good facilities including good showers and the on site shop gets you away with any essentials you may have forgotten about. The views are good over Ullswater what is about 1 mile down hill. In general the site is small, low key, dog friendly, not over run by kids, quiet site and in a good location.

There is a pub on site which sells local beer and lager however the owners are missing out on the fact they could make a mint if they started selling bar food or meals. Our weekend was really nice however there were quite a lot of children running around the site making noise during the day when there is a playing field provided. I havent a problem with this but the parents should have more respect for other people who are here to relax. Overall we liked the site and will definately be coming again. Close to pooley bridge and penrith. Keswick is easy half hour drive.
