One if the draws for coming to Chicago this time of year was to experience the Christmas Markets. My cousin and I visited several this weekend and I have to sadly state that the markets were so uninteresting and repetitive. This market housed the same vendors and offerings down to the Xmas mug that one can purchase for @$10 solo or @$13 with cider. The only other draw was to see the Picasso sculpture Installed in the 1960's and broadened the appeal of public art, Picasso stated it represented the head of his Afghan Hound.

Basically it's another big open public space in Chicago. Daley Center Plaza always has events going on. It can get pretty crowded at times. Check the internet for what's coming here. There's reoccurring seasonal events and it's also an impromptu gathering place it seems. A space like this is needed around here. It's a pretty popular spot. There's lots of events that take place here each year. Christkindlmarket is in December and is the best thing that happens here. You can also check out public art like the Picasso Statue and others. Also demonstrations like to show up here. These can be good or annoying for the most part. Great place for a gathering. It can get pretty crowded of course but it's safe. There's lots of places around it to go eat and whatever.

My first hearing was mid-May 2024 a couple of weeks after I was discharged from a nursing home post surgery & within four months (pls see attachments), Judge Debra Seaton ordered my under-rehab house to be demolished. After a 30plus stay as I was getting & paying for a structual engineer's report which had been requested, Judge Seaton cancelled the stay of demolition & to my surprise, the city of Chgo sent a demolition truck. I happened to be there & ordered them from my property. A week or so later, I got there & saw a construction truck in the driveway. I looked in the back & saw my house had been demolished. Could this happen to you within 4 1/2 months? Under Judge Seaton, in my opinion, Yes!!!

This place is great as an outdoor event for public use; smack dab in the heart of downtown. There's also the Picasso and the pop culture aspect from TV and movies. After a recent event I looked to the side and asked the nearby Security if the building across the street was used during the end of the movie The Blues Brothers when The Bluesmobile died (it was). Worth visiting!

Yeah Serve-A-Thon 2017 @ The Daley Plaza was amazing. Over 5,000 volunteer came out and showed out. The turn out was just wonderful. I signed up with my job to volunteer for a great cause. Check in started at 7:30AM there really wasnt a long line. I gave my name and received a nice goodie bag that came with a Chicago Cares Hat water bottle and a few snacks. Each group were assigned a bus to take you to a destinate school. Once we were seated on the bus there was a flyer that let you know what school you were headed off to and your duty for the day. This was a great cause to help paint elementary schools across Chicago. It was a great and fun experience. Now we are all headed back to the Daley Center for the kick off party. I'm not a beer drinker. But make sure you pick up your wristband for 2 free beers. See you next year

I love how Chicago shares this space and allows public venues to use this space...from the Farmer's Market on Tuesdays, Food Truck Fridays, to live music, festivals, art fairs, etc. Yesterday there was a huge 50th Anniversary Party for the Picasso Statue. The Mayor spoke as well as the director of the Department of Cultural Affairs. There were signs stating "Everybody's Picasso" and and another proclaiming "2017 the Year of Public Art." There was an orchestra playing Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue," student speakers recounting the history of the Picasso Statue donated to Chicago by Pablo Picasso in 1967, and fliers educating the public about all of the "public art" that they can visit and learn about throughout the city. Many of the public art within the city allows visitors to scan the QR code using their cellular telephone at each location and listen to the history of the piece of art on display. For Fun: You can purchase a Picasso Statue Postcard which you construct into the statue through the CAF for $2.95...check it out...too cool! https://shop.architecture.org/products/build-your-own-picasso-sculpture FYI: Visit: www.cityofchicago.org/YOPA for more information about upcoming events regarding "2017 the Year of Public Art."

Daley Center Plaza will forever be a place that warms my heart. My first visit here was during the Food Truck Rally, which was an event that had a lot of food vendors all in one area. This event fell during Chicago Marathon weekend, and it gave me and my girlfriend something to do. Great time! great memory! I remember it being very cold, and us catching a cab to this area, which was probably less than a mile away from the Hilton, but not knowing our way around Chicago we said oh well. Now as a resident of Chicago, i have visited the Picasso sculpture, which is a huge statue created by Pablo Picasso, and I've also made this one of my stomping grounds while training for Chicago Marathon. I've came many other times, but it was mainly looking for a business in the area. Visiting Daley Plaza Center always takes me back to my first experience here, while at the Food Truck Rally; giving me that heart warming feeling. Funny thing i just noticed about Daley Plaza Center area are the pigeons! Yep! The pigeons hang out by the fire pit! I call them Chicago pigeons! I've never seen a pigeon try to stay warm by a fire, and i got a good kick out of that while visiting Adler University. I shared a picture of it, but if you're in the area take note of that. Beautiful area for pictures, and to get that city feel. Enjoy!

(No I'm not going to give you a history lesson! Lol) As of late, the building was acquired by Shorenstein Properties in 2012 and officially renamed River North Point in 2013. Now that we've established that the name is River North Point, on to what's inside.... The notables --- on the 15th floor you will find the lobby for the Holiday Inn (with nice views btw) and a restaurant, skipping down some...on the 10th floor you'll find the Chicago Sun-Times, then the 2nd floor you'll find what others describe as a "glass enclosed bridge/skywalk" but I call a pedway that connects this building to the Merchandise Mart (awesome!), and lastly the 1st floor where you'll find the Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago, a convenient store (C&A News), and an informational desk in the lobby. All the other floors are filled with various office spaces that are leased by different companies. This building is located right off the river and easily accessed by the Merchandise Mart Brown/Purple Line. How do I know all of this??? Well I work in this building, duh!

The Apparel Center offers a convenient go-to for Chicago-area boutiques and wholesalers to meet without the hassle of business travel, and has quite literally changed the way I purchase clothing for my shop. Rather than schlep hither and yon for wholesale shows in Dallas or Attanta or New York, I can head downtown, put in some orders, and head back to work in the space of an hour. Efficient in layout and clustered on one floor, the showrooms range from spotlessly minimal ro chaotically cluttered, but that's part of the charm. The showrooms at the Apparel Center are staffed by helpful and honest people, and I can often see them within a day or two's notice. The Apparel Center also works in tandem with the Merchandise Mart for Stylemax, the quarterly wholesale show, so I can also see clothing representatives on a regular basis and have local go-to people for emergency orders and the like. I am immensely grateful that this resource exists for people like me and would love to see it grow into an even more vibrant locale for Chicago's burgeoning fashion scene. Until then, I wil continue to thank my lucky stars I can easily do this type of pivotal buying right downtown!

It gets its name because it's next to the Kluczynski Federal Building, which deals with immigration and other things. A lot to see around here. There's also the Old Post Office. It basically is kind of like a town square but instead of grass there's a lot of concrete and granite. Of course it's not completely barren of plant life as there's a few shrubs and trees. There's a few important buildings that you may need to go to if you need documents or whatever. One is the Old Post Office. Though it no longer is a working post office, this is a historically significant place and is now used for office and retail. In the Federal Building is where you deal with customs and immigration. This is where to get passports. Also there's events and festivals. It has a farmers market that goes from spring to fall that features handmade crafts and locally grown produce. The Flamingo statue is the part that gets all the attention but the plaza itself has lots to see too.

It's in the International Style, designed by famed architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe so that it's all black glass and steel, rectangles and straight lines, without a bunch of decorations or anything. Then in the center, you have the Alexander Calder statue, Flamingo, which is a bright pop of color in the center. It makes for a great place to sit and people watch and hang out in the shade on some of the public seating. It's kind of austere, and unwelcoming. It looks like it could be the center of Darth Vader's central offices for the bureaucratic side of running the Empire. There's three buildings that make up the Plaza- The Post Office which is a low flat building that matches all the others here. John C. Kluczynski Building that's known as the building where 'People go in, but don't come out' since it has Immigration and Customs Enforcement in here. Be weary if you need to go here to ask questions or 'get a document' or something. I don't know what happens at the third building, Everett McKinley Dirksen Building. The buildings all have the same motif- they have this rigid system of lines all running parallel or at even angles. You can find all kinds of spots where everything just aligns perfectly and makes a really cool scene with the black buildings and the Flamingo- it's absolutely worth checking out.

Having said that, it still does look still fairly new. I've only shopped at a few stores here but it's fine, like just about any mall. There are a few stores you can enter from the street and others you have to enter through the interior of the mall. There is parking on the street as well, which *can* be cheaper depending upon how long you're planning to be here. You have to pay for parking on the street for the duration of your stay, however long or short it may be; however, you can park in the garage and there's free parking for 90 minutes with validation. I don't know how validation works at all stores (perhaps you have to buy something), but at some of them they have a little machine where you can get validation. The biggest problem I had here was with the parking. The lot is far too compact. When I was driving in looking for a place to park, three cars were pulling in and out of spaces to center themselves because the driveway of the lot is too narrow to get a good approach. I'll admit it was annoying because it took several minutes--car 1 backs out and then back in, followed by cars two and three, and then they each do it again until they're in whilst I and anyone else behind me has to wait for them to finish their dance. When I was leaving, I had to wait while another couple cars did this too. This was pretty poor planning on the part of the builders.
