We finished off a 2-week trip to Scotland with 2 nights at the Malmaison in Glasgow. It's a very…read morenice boutique hotel, converted from a church where, likely, we were sleeping where monks used to sleep. The room itself was unique. We had a suite which was 2 floors! It was very nicely appointed, and unlike any room we'd stayed in before. The bed was in an upstairs loft-like area which overlooked the living room space below. The bathroom/shower is also downstairs, so we found, for the most part, we were only upstairs to sleep, and all of our clothing, bathroom stuff, etc were downstairs. Everything was comfortable and nice. (We loved the little pig statue in the room.) We had skylights which had shades we could control with wall switches. The location is okay...it's about a 10-minute+ walk to the center of downtown (Buchanan Street, the train station and subway stations) and down a hill...so not so bad walking to those areas, but coming back from them it's up a hill with nothing particularly close to the hotel itself. For us it wasn't a bad walk, but the hotel is not exactly in the middle of things. The breakfast was good and included a plentiful continental buffet selection (including a super-automatic espresso machine to get any coffee drink you wanted), plus you could order prepared foods from the menu. I had porridge both mornings, which came with berries and honey (though the first time they forgot to bring them and brought a side of berries and honey to add in, and the second night it was a berry compote already mixed in with the honey). My wife got the French Toast both mornings, which was among the best French toasts either of us has ever had. We spent a little time at the bar thanks to our free drinks they gave us as a gift for opting not to have the room serviced. Whiskey selection was limited (especially for Scotland), but the bartender was very nice and spent some time talking with us, which we really enjoyed. The bonus to it being slightly off the beaten path was that it was quiet. We liked it here and might stay here again if we found ourselves back in Glasgow.

The wedding was beautiful - the ceremony and reception were held in the same room. The food was delicious - I had the beef. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert - heavenly. Only bad part was the dance floor was quite small and the stage could only hold a band of four. We were so spoiled by the hotel - really comfortable and relaxing. You can also use a gym nearby for £5 a day - I didn't but I probably needed to after all the delicious food I ate here. Highly recommended for a stay or any function!

Everybody said that the food was excellent and to my surprise, it was soooo cheap! The UK isn't the cheapest place to eat in Europe but we had 5 main courses and 5 drinks and the price for all was under 70 pounds. The dining room was beautifully decorated and from what we saw of the hotel, it was on the "posh" side, which was nice. The friendly staff was also a plus. Highly recommended for eating and I would bet that staying there is also a good experience, being just a very short distance to the beach.

The bathrooms were also quite luxurious and there's a tub as well as shower. They have free breakfast if you book directly with them, but since we booked it through the Capital One portal, we didn't have that. The keys themselves are physical keys (not keycards). The front desk is nice and even though there wasn't a water bottle filling station, they filled them up for us. They were able to hold onto our baggage after we checked out while we explored the area.

We are Irish and if you are Irish you appreciate where I'm coming from. A baileys or Irish coffee is presented in a tall glass. We met Callum from Derry, he was super friendly, nice and made me a super Baileys coffee on night 2 - thank you Callum. In fact all the bar staff are lovely, they look after their customs well - Ivan and he can spell another gentleman All the staff @ Crown Plaza are lovely especially the reception staff, they go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. It's a super location, 2 stops on the train to the city with the train station 2 minute walk away.
