These guys are great. Wife and i were on a day trip to The Dalles to pick up some fruit and popped in to see how long to get some flat iron and a piece of channel iron. Oh about 5 minutes says one of the three guys who greeted me. The big fellow with the red beard said "follow me". He got me the metal I needed and then we talked about some of the machines in the machine shop, taking his time and not rushing me out of the shop. Traveling westward on interstate 84, I limped into The Dalles with a bent strut on a special anti-sway device attached to our toyhauler. The local mechanic referred me to The Dalles Iron Works. "If anyone can fix it, they can." When I arrived as this historic brick building, I was immediately assured that they could help. The part was fixed by their straightening expert who looked like he was strong enough to bend it with his bare hands. In minutes the part was fixed and the guys even lent a hand as I reassembled the device step-by-step. I don't know if I've ever been treated kinder anywhere in America. Today I read more about this city called The Dalles, and discovered that it was considered the end of the Oregon Trail. This was the city where westward pioneers were welcomed and and assisted by citizens of The Dalles as they resupplied before leaving to their final destinations in the Pacific Northwest.
