After years of Dalton Distillery being open, I finally made it a point to go try it out for a pre-dinner drink. When I entered the establishment I was wowed at how cool the space is, I had no idea and honestly didn't have high expectations. The bar is decorated really cool with geometric wall designs and a giant hexagonal opening leading from one room to the other. Dalton Distillery also has Ping-Pong, a pool table, and video games. I had no idea. As I walked in, I was immediately curious as to how this place isn't more popular. There is plenty of seating with lots of chairs and a few couches. The Distillery is decorated with some cool furniture too and has some colorful graffiti murals. I am a very visual person and this place was surprisingly awesome inside. I'd love to come back with a group of friends for some Ping-pong and pool games! I was very happy to hear that my bourbon and gingers were only $4, a great deal that is a rarity in/near downtown Asheville. My friend ordered some of their housemade rum in a cocktail that neither of us enjoyed, but they have a pretty good beer selection so he left happy anyway. Overall this place was great and I can't wait to check it out again. I had to give Dalton Distillery 4 stars rather than 5 because the bartender was very unfriendly. I asked him many questions about the rum. I was very interested considering that they are a distillery and that is what they make, but he seemed annoyed by my questions and barely answered them. He talked to me in a way that was very arrogant and dismissive. I'd like to hope that next time I go in there is a different bartender or he has a better demeanor. Servers and bartenders play the role of being the face/representative of an establishment and for my first experience being here, there was not a good representation. read more

I was given a couple of bottles of Dalton Distillery vodka and a fifth of Dalton Hammond rum for my birthday. I appreciate the thought, but the Dalton product is not something Asheville should be proud of, in my opinion. Over the years, I have had some cheap rotgut vodka, but I'm sorry to say that Dalton's takes the prize for "Worst Vodka Ever." Your mileage may vary, but in my opinion it's totally undrinkable. To me, it smelled and tasted like the inside of a '78 Ford radiator. I guess that if you mix the Dalton rum with a lot of fruit juices, you could drink it. But I wouldn't. read more

Very laid back, chill bar, with friendly bartender. I had friends in town who wanted to hang out downtown and have a few drinks and talk, without having to shout over loud music and get elbowed by crowds. Dalton's has comfortable sofas, game boards, two small adjoining rooms with foos ball, ping pong,etc. It's a nice place to meet a friend for a drink and the drink prices are low. We went on a Tuesday evening and there were 6 drink specials all under $6. I had Fernet for $6 myself! They don't really have a lot of mixers for fancy cocktails, but the bartender whipped up some tasty mixed drinks for my friends and we all had a stress free visit and enjoyed ourselves! We were the only ones there on a slow Saturday afternoon. Jeremy was friendly and helpful. The vodkas and rum were super smooth.

Stopped by after a long day of adventure and was so pleased! The staff was so chill and friendly, can't wait to return!

Had the best time here, as a couple traveling finding a great dive bar is one of the things we like to do! Kenzie the bartender is amazing! She was so knowledgeable about the city and places to go. It is slightly off the beaten path 2 blocks past wicked weed but 100% worth the trip. One of the best spots in town! One of the best things about Dalton Distillery is that you can have amazing, Asheville made liquor right there and the bar is really awesome too. You can hang out outside, inside, there's parking even though it's right in downtown, there's ping pong, billiards, games, beer, mixed drinks, one of my favorite spots for sure. Make sure to try the coffee rum, you can drink it straight up and for a coffee fiend like myself, it is perfect. read more

We were just passing through and had a groupon for this place. Very trendy and unique place! Beer selection was awesome and we got to build a custom 6-pack of different beer to take with us. Daltons distillery is a home to all those getting off of a hard days work. When you enter you're greeted with friendly faces and people. It's a relaxing environment where one can just drink a beer and enjoy the evening. The more I visit this bar the more I become a part of a family of friends. Since I found this bar last year I've been a loyal patron. Simplicity is what is provided here and it's a refreshing change of pace. If you're looking for crowded bars, loud music, and people you'll soon forget this is not the bar for you. Do NOT go here! Like the other review, we had a groupon for this place and my husband and I intended to use on our recent vacation to Asheville. We planned to use it for lunch, but found out that day that it does not open until 4pm. We went in the following day after they opened asked if we could get our sandwich to-go since we had already had lunch early that day and had dinner reservations. We had no other dinner slots available on our trip so thought we would take the sandwiches hiking the next day. There was no one but us there and one bartender the whole time we were there.. He was just AWFUL. The worse costumer service I have ever experienced. He told us that the sandwich had to be eaten there and we "HAD to buy a beer". I understood the dine-in part and said, that is fine, we will order, take a few bites, and get the rest to go. I told him the "need to order a beer" was not part of the groupon. He continued to express how "we make no money off these groupons, so we need you guys to buy beers". Ummmm....no company makes money off groupons!! They are to promote their business and get repeat costumers. We then just asked if we can skip the sandwich part at just get the 6 pack of beer part of the deal and be on our way...again, he said "no". He finally agreed that "if we tip him" he will let us have the sandwiches and 6 packs without ordering a beer. While we waited for the sandwiches, he stated we "need to tip" at least 3 times! He was so awful, it was painful. My husband is a small business owner and I have worked as a waitress and bartender to support myself through school; if he wasn't so awful and was nice from the get-go, we would have left him a generous tip without thinking twice!
