The billing rate can add up quickly and expensively but the job got done properly.

I called to have new toilet installed in my home that I was putting up for sale. The plumber they…read moresent out was sooooo unprofessional. Because this particular plumber they were sending over had serviced another house of mine before, I allowed him to work without me being there. I trusted him! This house had been totally repainted; was clean; repaired; re-landscaped; and ready to be put on the market when the plumber finished the toilet installation that day, this one job! However, when the painter stopped by on the afternoon after the toilet installation, he found this roomy bathroom a mess!! Not only was the floor very dirty as you came into it, but also he found that, in the process of installing the toilet, the plumber had scraped up the wall adjacent to the toilet, marring the newly painted wall! So, the painter called me very upset, having just finished painting it days before. However, he told me not to worry, he would clean it up and repaint it, free-of-charge. However, after the painter cleaned up the bathroom and before he repainted it, he took pictures of the wall and sent them to me. Immediately, upset, I called Scheid's office and spoke with a woman whom I had gotten to know quite well over the years of using this plumbing/ HVAC company, explaining the problem. She said she found it unbelievable. I said the same after my years of experience with this company, but the pictures were the proof. Plus, the painter had no reason to lie; I had already seen his finished product!! Then, I asked to speak with the owner, Dan Scheid. She told me he was not there but said she would give him a message. Also, I got the information to send Dan copies of the photos. After all, the photos were proof of the wall being marred after the toilet installation. I sent Dan Scheid the photos, but when he called me back, he was very defensive and rude, saying his plumber would never have done that! He said he had a picture of the completed installation and sent it to me. Then, I understood why he was believing his plumber and not me. His plumber had taken a straight-ahead photo of the toilet with the adjacent wall showing no marring. The reason it did was because the wall is longer than the photo shows, and the plumber made sure to take the photo close enough so as not to be able to see the marred wall!! Although I had been a long-time customer for my home as well as my business properties, who had never complained, and to his credit, never had a reason to before. However, even though I had sent Dan Scheid the photos of the marred wall attributed to his plumber's carelessness when he called me back, Dan, the owner, chose to have a very poor attitude toward me about the incident where his plumber not only created a mess but also marred the newly painted wall, causing it to need to be repainted in order to be put on the market to sell!! Therefore, my only recourse was not to pay the bill and to not to use their services anymore! Believe me, I did not and have not since!! The Godwin crew on our jobs were not professional, personable, reliable... the list goes on. In fact we STILL have NOT received a quote for our water heater as they promised, now 2 weeks out...? But Ferrer Plumbing did a fantastic job. Anthony in one quick call, made an appointment to see our situation, he was great. He knew what he was doing, and explained everything in a way that average people can understand. The solution was perfect. The pricing isn't by hourly, but by a software they use to find the best rates for the job required. Ultimately, I've voiced my concerns of how that system works and what I think could change but they are sticking with the way the price structure works, as it works for them. I am happy with the solution that was offered to me, and would use this company again, but more so for serious issues that require an expert to come out. When booking the appointment, it was explained to me that it was $85 to have the team come out, and an additional $125 for diagnostic of the situation of my leaky pipe, which could be used towards the maintenance cost. The determination made by the technician is that the pack nuts needed to be screwed tighter, and it took the technician less than 2 minutes to do so. For this labor, I was charged $220, and the charge is not itemized, it is just marked as misc. - and I had no option to just tighten it myself, as it already cost me $125 for the technician to diagnose the issue. Since I was charged $220 for 2-3 minutes of labor, that's about $6600 per hour that they charge. If we did just the $95 on top of the diagnostic, that's $2,850 per hour for their labor. I understand they are a business and I am not saying I expected the work to be free, but for the fact it was an additional $95 for him to tighten the pack nuts in 2-3 minutes is crazy. I asked about why it costs so much / the charge couldn't be a flat $125 since it was a simple solution, the technician told me it was a liability if he didn't charge me for his work, and since he had to screw TWO pack nuts, that's where the extra charge came in. If you go through this company, just expect a labor cost of $47.50 per minute.

They informed me at the visit (was not disclosed when I made the appointment) it would be $85 for the visit to my home, $120 for diagnostics (ridiculous as I told them the problem), and they have a minimum service fee of $210. My estimate was well over $400 to fix a small PVC pipe. I told them that price was ridiculous and the plumber agreed. None of these fees were disclosed prior to the visit and they refused to waive them when they were not previously disclosed stating it is their policy even though they acknowledged customers are regularly not being informed of the fees when appointments are scheduled. I asked for the supervisor's information and was told by the workers they did not have this, I would need to call the main number. I had to pay them to get them to leave. It was very uncomfortable and I can only imagine how intimated the vulnerable population must feel in these situations. I filed a complaint the BBB. Do better Bergsma!
