This is our 2nd time here and the service is just as wonderful as the 1st time. It's a great spot to go to after attending a concert in Oakland since they're opened until 2AM. Love the ambience here, we sat in the booths. Walls scribbled and plastered with old posters haha. The banchan dishes they served were Mac salad, kimchi, fish cake, and seasoned cucumbers. I think it varies with what they have prepared, it was a little different than what they offered the first time we visited but all were wonderful starters. Also note their corn cheese was very sweet so just be wary but we still enjoyed it. It did take some time for the food to come out but we did order a lot and everything still came out so delicious! It's clearly a small crew around the time we went but they were still very accommodating and friendly. Pretty chill dinner.

Yum. Great spot for late night Korean food. Came with a small group on a Friday night and we were seated right away. We shared a bottle of soju, cheese corn, short rib, fried rice, wings and jap chae. Everything was delicious and came out together nice and hot. Will be back next time I'm up in Oakland.

Looking for a super cool Korean eatery to have a bit of foodie fun and fare with your friends? I didn't know about Dan Sung Sa until a friend of mine was like "we're meeting here" over the holidays. I already can't wait for round two soon. While this dining experience may not be for everyone, I absolutely loved it for a bit of a break from the norm. Dimly-lit, loud, fast/paced, energizing, and do I dare say it felt a bit naughty with all the 'food porn'? Def a IYKYK type of spot, and I'm so glad I'm now in the know. Upon entering we were seated right away in a booth. The booths feel like their own mini-experience. We ordered: the Seafood pancake from the Greatest Hits section, the Fried Cheesy Pork Cutlet (regular), the Porno Fries with Spicy Pork from the Soju Bites section, and the Rice Omelet with Spam. For drinks we ordered Soju and beers. What a menu! Something fun to note: check out the Double Feature section and DanSungSa section for food pairings with drinks included in price. Everything was served super quick and wow, so flavorful. The porno fries were a surprise hit for me, and I see why they were featured in the Soju Bites section..because after a few sips of Soju, the excitement for naughty food seeps in! Oh! And I loved the Mac salad addition to their banchan. Yum! The pork cutlet was juicy and screamin' with that oozing cheese, the seafood pancake was chef's kiss, and the omelet was incredibly savory. And was that a drizzle of ketchup on top? Paired nicely. We took a ride share, and I didn't take notice of street parking. This is def a spot you want to relax, unwind, and stay a while to go on a culinary x drinking adventure through. Pricing seems reasonable to split with a group, although does add up :)

Came here to celebrate my birthday! This place is definitely a place where people come for late night munch. I had a large party with me but getting a table around 8:30-9 pm was easy! We ordered quite a bit to share. I thought the food was like any typical korean pocha. however, I did favor the squid a lot! The sauce was like tteokbokki sauce on top of squid. My least favorite would have to be grilled pork belly. Kinda dry. Overall, I had a great time at porno bar! Would definitely come back again.

I've been here many times, and love the inside. It's a fun place to have drinks and food. Their Happy Hour is really nice. I had a a Soju Bomb the last time I went. They play a lot of K-Pop and Pop music

This is the perfect place to have Korean food and drink. The restaurant gives off a very chill vibe with the dim lights and booth style tables. You can get really good soju cocktails here. This is usually why we eat here. There is a ton of good shareable foods to go with drinking. The servers have been attentive. I've been here a few times and will continue to come back. I've also always found parking nearby which is nice. If you want to keep drinking after dinner you can always leave your car and walk a few blocks down. There are a few cool bars to check out.

The meats were so burnt and DRY yuck. Had to pack the food to go... only thing we finished was the corn cheese.

This use to be my go to spot but the price increase and the huge decrease in quality has made me decide not to come back anymore The meats were so burnt and DRY yuck. Had to pack the food to go... only thing we finished was the corn cheese. 100$ on 3 dishes wasted

Nice quiet little spot with a private booth to have a conversation and actually be able to hear what is being said which is rare for Korean bbq ! Lol the server was very quick and got the food relatively fast and it was delicious. We had Bulgogi, kimchi fried rice, green onion, pancake with pineapple and cheese and porno fries. My only complaint was the water was a little funky and I'm a big water drinker so not gonna lie....I was judging a little bit. Lol definitely recommend the green onion pancake with the pineapple and the porno fries those stood out the most from all that we got. Great experience definitely go back.

When you enter it's a dark, wooden cellar w/ K-Pop posters and graffiti on the wall. Don't let the decor fool you. This place has amazing Korean food from soups, stews, grilled meats and fried chicken. If you're w/ friends, make sure to also order some soju or even a Hite beer to complement your meal. If you like a little kick to your food, would highly recommend the spicy race cakes with ramen noodles. The soup isn't too spicy and is filled w/ a combination of delicious rice cakes, vegetables, tofu and ramen. The perfect dish especially for a cold or rainy day. You can never go wrong w/ the standard bulgogi or grilled spicy pork. The dish is served w/ rice and works as an individual entree or to share amongst friends. Candidly this place would be 5 stars if the service was a little better. Although the servers are polite, you often have to track or wave them down. It's almost as if they sometimes get lost in their own world and the K-Pop music blasting on the speakers. I've been here 4x and every time the servers are polite but I've had to kind of wave them down to ask for something. They do not check-in and honestly once you're seated, you're on your own.

What's all this talk about a Porno Bar? This Korean spot has been here for years, but Jamie W and I didn't know about it until a bartender at the White Horse Inn suggested the Porno Palace as THE place to get big portions of good Korean food. We were hesitant our patronage would mean bodaciously endowed strippers flinging banchan at us, but no such titillation did occur. However, there was a sign for the Happy Hour at the Porno Bar, Mon-Thu 5-7PM. It turned out the references to porno relate to provocative long-ago movie posters that have since been removed from the walls. What's left is a dark, clubby kind of a vibe with a fully loaded bar and a series of wooden booths where we gorged in private. We knew we needed to try the $22 Korean Whole Fried Chicken, which came with a dipping sauce, salt seasoning, pickled jalapeños, and daikon (photo: https://yelp.to/O0uF9TuTAA). It was slightly overcooked, but that didn't stop us from exhibiting buzzard-like behavior. I should mention the Banchan. There were fewer dishes than most Korean spots, but they were all tasty, including an unexpected mac salad (photo: https://yelp.to/VuTtVhbpVz). The $10 Corn Cheese arrived at the same time, and it was decadently creamy (photo: https://yelp.to/U43JNum-sv). The best dish of the night though was the $20 Seafood Pancake which was generously stuffed with squid, shrimp, clams, and scallions. So large, it was drawn and quartered and still huge (photo: https://yelp.to/T1NvPo9BPR). We really didn't miss the porno and came back just recently after downing a cocktail or two at Thee Stork Club. This time, we shared three other Korean favorites. First up was the Banchan but then the $16 Kimchi Fried Rice with Spam topped with a fried egg (photo: https://yelp.to/DxS2iEQSVp). That's total comfort food to us and well executed. Next was the $22 Stone Bowl Bibimbap with Beef. There was quite a bit of delicious grilled beef still sizzling in the stone vessel. The rice was browning the way we like it, and the fried egg provided a nice runny texture (photo: https://yelp.to/dOA8hMYUSq). Lady on the table was the $33 Korean Short Ribs, a generous portion of bone-in beef ribs grilled and tender over a bed of grilled onions on a cast-iron platter (photo: https://yelp.to/U_THaheVLm). A carnivorous delight with each savory bite of the meat. We had yet to try the soju which appears to be the major get here regardless of the lack of porno. Maybe next time. FOOD - 4 stars...hearty plates of familiar Korean favorites unlikely to disappoint AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...felt like a dark bar with plenty of privacy and pop culture decor SERVICE - 3.5 stars...fairly stealth crew TOTAL - 4 stars...come starving RELATED - Exploring Oakland? My first time at Dang Sung Sa was a fever dream. I was exhausted and starving. I am trying to remember if I liked the food, the only thing I took away was the decorations, and that it reminded me of spots I went to in Seoul. When my friend reached out to grab dinner and wanted Korean, we decided on this since it was a new spot for her. We left disappointed and found it lacking. We came on a weekday evening for an early dinner. The restaurant is dark but spacious with semi-closed-off booth seating. Late in the evening, it's a popular spot for friends and groups, but not a family-friendly place because, on the walls of the restaurant, you'll find interesting and hilarious photos. We both agreed service was extremely slow. We were at the restaurant for 2 hours and never once were checked in on. The food came out staggered too. With it being colder out, soup sounded ideal. I ordered the Fish Cake Soup while my friend had the Stone Bowl Bimbimbap with Korean Short Ribs. The portion of my soup was the only pro. The broth was saltier, the fish cake was similar to the frozen ones, and all the other toppings and proteins (fish balls, imitation crab) were lacking in flavor and taste. Even the side dishes, banchan, could have been better. My friend wasn't too excited to only see three small pieces of meat and a hefty amount of rice for her dish. I would steer clear of these items. Oakland has a lot of options for Korean food. I found the quality and quantity at Dang Sung Sa to be less than average compared to others. The restaurant is located off Telegraph Ave. with street parking out front.

I came here on a really rainy day and this was the perfect place for warm, hearty soup. My boyfriend and I ordered the beef short rib soup and the garlic pork wraps. The portions were massive! The garlic pork wraps were also delicious. I ended up ordering the soup again a few days later when I had a stomachache! I'll definitely be back here sometime in the near future.

A sign on the restaurant also reminds diners of this risk. Saw two nearly naked men sunning and lieing on the pavement while driving around looking for parking. Try to park on busy and visible Telegraph vs a side street. PCTH has a modern vibe with very solid wood tables and benches. The restaurant gets noisy even when half full near the end of a Friday lunch hour. We ordered two of the lunch specials and an Appetizer of Soy and Garlic Fried Chicken (1/2 order of 10 pieces composed of wings and drums). The chicken was very good with a nice crispy exterior and coating of S&G. The two lunch specials - Mushroom Beef Soon Tofu Soup and Spicy Pork Box Lunch were not spicy as what we're used to, a medium on the soup - get spicy if you want more flavor, while Spicy Pork was more sweet than spicy. But still good for their version of spicy pork. The soup also comes with a whole pot of crisped rice for soup dipping / soaking. A nice addition. As for Banchan, nothing spectacular that wowed us. Pyeong Chang is another nice addition to the competitive Korean restaurant area in Oakland's Temescal region, just not the safest of area when it comes to parking your car.
