I would say I'm a terrible dancer, but the reality is that I don't dance. At all. But my son's wedding is coming up and my husband and I figured we had better learn. We found Dance King Studios and signed up for some private lessons. Adam has been great about making me feel comfortable, and he teaches with patience and a sense of humor. In just one lesson I went from feeling very awkward and self-conscious to feeling that I just might be able to do this. We've had two lessons so far, with four more to go (we did a package of 6 private lessons, but Dance King offers several different options, both private and group.) Since we've made so much progress in only two sessions, thanks to Adam I feel optimistic that by the time we are finished with the rest of them, we'll be ready to hit the dance floor at the wedding. read more

We are so thrilled to have found dance King Studios in Leesburg!! Look, do you love the idea of sweating and working out on massive machines while being on display in skin-tight clothing in front of any number of strangers, all in the name of fitness? Either do we! And at Dance King Studios we don't have to do any of that! We can wear regular street clothes and shoes, or even wear formal clothes if we like, and still get the same level of movement, exercise, and challenge that we'd get from any gym workout. We knew dance lessons would be fun and even challenging, but we had no idea just how much fun and fitness they would provide. After thirty years of doing no more dancing than at the occasional wedding, we were slightly apprehensive about starting, but we knew we needed the exercise and were determined to find something better than the impersonal grind of a gym or the pressure of a franchise-chain dance instruction company. Dance King Studios really provided the answer. Adam, the owner, and his staff could not be more friendly and welcoming but most of all capable of teaching us how to actually dance together to fresh, relevant music, without stepping on one another's feet or being consigned to the monotonous back and forth motion of former days. I received a private dance class with Dance King Studios as a birthday present and fell in love! Adam was my instructor and loved his energy! He made it enjoyable by explaining what I was doing incorrectly and how to correct without sounding like he was criticizing. The music was a combination of classic and more recent hit salsa songs which he tailored as we progressed through the class which added to the wonderful experience! I loved it so much, I signed up for a year's worth of private dance classes, which per class seems reasonable. I would think twice before signing a contract.....studio still owes me money. As for the instructors, there are only two, Adam and Lauren. Lauren has no dancing experience prior to Dance King Studios (1 year ago) and only got the job because she happened to walk into the studio one day to buy her parents gift certificates and the studio was looking for a zumba instructor at the time. She is a zumba instructor but not a dance instructor. I don't know about you, but if I'm paying $95 for a 45 minute private lesson, I would want someone with a few years experience under their belt and not just someone who happens to walk in one day to buy gift certificates for their parents. Ask "how many years have you been teaching dance instruction?" She is basically like a student intern/on the job training, which is okay, at a reduced rate, but not at the going rate. read more

This is a great place to learn different styles of dance from two great teachers. I've been doing salsa socially for a few years, but I've always wanted to get my boyfriend to come dance. For my birthday, my boyfriend signed us up for two months of dance classes to learn basic salsa. The beginners classes start at the very basics and get you going with a lot of repetition and music of different tempos. We also have signed up for a private lesson before our time ends so that we can get a few key moves as a base. I really like the class times at Dance King - very helpful for people with DC jobs who can't get out to the area until 7pm at the earliest. Really fun environment to learn! read more

We were delighted to attend Dance King Studios' 4th of July Sunset Picnic and Dance in Oatlands' picturesque English gardens this Independence Day with both our children. The five o'clock start time was perfect for a family with children. We were able to park quite close, just in front of the Historic Mansion. April, from Dance King Studios, chose for us a perfect pocket of the English Garden where we could spread out our picnic blanket and still have ample dance space; watch Adam and April demonstrate dance combinations with enviable grace on the tier above us; but were so secluded from other guests we couldn't see them -- social distancing at its most effortless. Although July in Virginia is quite hot, the shadows in our pocket of the garden lengthened to provide us with more and more shade as the evening progressed. We were thrilled that Dance King Studios played so many of our requested songs beginning with an old WWII favorite: "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." Strolling through the gardens at Oatlands I have often been reminded me of a line in F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel "The Great Gatsby:" "In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars." Exploring the English garden with our children between dances, I felt much like I had stepped into a favorite girlhood novel "The Secret Garden" -- discovering the mysterious magic of the garden through the eyes of my own children. When we arrived back home after the dance, our daughter crawled sleepily into my husband's arms and sighed emphatically, "that was the best day ever!" Although my husband and I have attended three Big Band dances at Oatlands Historic House and Gardens (in 2013, 2014, and 2018) we were unable to share them with our children as they always began around eight or nine --after bedtime for our children. When our son was a baby, Dance King Studios hosted Swing dances at the Bush Tabernacle in Purcellville featuring the Franklin Park Big Band that began around six and we often took our baby son to dance there for the first hour or so of the dance. He learned to box step by mirroring Mommy as he learned to walk-- we've missed those dances greatly. We would love to attend another picnic dance at Oatlands hosted by Dance King Studios, perhaps in the early autumn when it's a little cooler. It would be wonderful if Dance King Studios and Oatlands collaborated to host an annual Big Band style swing dance: a perfect tradition to share with our children. Perhaps Great Gatsby themed -- it's the '20's after all! read more

I first came to Dance King about a year ago. I wanted to learn Salsa to surprise my wife for a friend's wedding we were going to. Adam and Lauren helped me look GREAT for the wedding. I could not have asked for anything more out of them. I loved working with them so much, I am still going weekly to improve my skills. My husband and I talked about taking some Latin dance lessons for some time. After a recent trip to Puerto Rico and seeing the locals dance so naturally It was definitely time to take them before the next trip. Not knowing what to expect, I read through everyone's comments, it seemed like everyone sorta knew each other and for the most part they did, but we felt very welcomed as if we knew everyone - such a great set of people. There was a mix of folks that have been taking lessons with Adam for some time and some just fairly recent. The skill levels were diverse and Adam does a wonderful job teaching and guiding everyone through the routine. We enjoyed coming so much that we've continued to come 3 weeks in a row and could stay away on my birthday which happened to fall on Salsa night. We've only been going for Salsa lessons and tried some Bachata, but Adam also teaches Tango and other... I heard those classes are a blast as well. Not for Argentine tango. Save your money for the real thing. Unfortunately you can get the same level of instruction from a DVD or tape. Dance King only shows you moves, not the technique to go with it, so you never learn to improve. Classes include everyone, which means no one, not even the newest student, gets full benefit of dollars spent. read more

I've been going to the Reston Town Center for the salsa lessons on Sundays. Classes start at 6:00 PM for beginners, 7:00 PM Intermediate and then the best part is the open dance when you get to practice what you learned during the class. The instructor is very patient and always tries to teach the routine the best way possible. Classes are fun. The group of people who attend are all very friendly and because everybody is learning, it's ok if you don't get it at first. read more

Just discovered Dance King Studios and I'm so glad I did! I went to the salsa & bachata classes last Thursday, which were a blast (plus I even learned new things). Then I did a private lesson with Adam, which was great! Having danced at another studio years ago, I was really happy with the quality of instruction at Dance King combined with Adam's genuine interest in what I was looking to get out of dancing. This was a nice change from some of the other big studios where I kinda felt like they were trying to mold me into whatever worked for them.
