They customarily under-promise and over-deliver. I should know, because I am a chronic "last-minute" client of theirs (some might suggest euphemistically they are a "JIT" (just-in-time) shop...). My personal experience with them is always the best. The person on the other side of the counter is knowledgeable, has options that I didn't even consider, and is focused on providing me with something that exceeds my expectations. I just checked out their website and was impressed with the enduring presence they've had in Tallahassee. The original shop resided in the New Leaf shopping plaza and focused primarily on retail sales. From university apparel to tshirts for rock 'n roll music concerts, ClothesLine began to quickly establish itself as a major player in the industry. A music and culture enthusiast, legend even has it that owner David Lachter helped supply Jimi Hendrix's tailor with denim materials for his stage costumes. (Swoon!) David and his wife Debra decided to make the move in 1989 into their current building behind Apalachee Parkway. At that time, in addition to custom screeprinting, the evolution of casual Fridays in the early 90's led to a boom in embroidered polos and dress shirts. If a link with honey brown shoes showed online, it quickly disappeared or were no longer carried. When looking for Alana's leotards and under garments for her spring show, we bought and tried almost three different items to get a color that was as close as possible to her skin tone. The owner of Mackenzie Kate expressed her empathy over the phone yesterday when my daughter and I resigned ourselves to the fact she would have to get black character shoes due to a lack of options. Misty at Mackenzie Kate told us to come in and she gave at least three options of things we could do should this new line of dance shoes not match her color. For the first time in her life, Alana was able to look in the mirror and see dance shoes that match and represent her! Her face and the sheer joy in her reflection was priceless. Misty's mission was to make sure her advertising, signage, and other marketing items come only after she had a selection of dance items to represent the variance in the dancers of our city because, "every dancer deserves to have a beautiful line of dancewear," Misty stated. My daughter went for a pointe fitting and Misty spent SO much time educating her on the different parts of the shoe and about her feet. I had no idea how complex it is to properly (and safely!) fit a dancer for pointe shoes. I am SO thankful to Misty for going above and beyond teaching my girl. We must have tried on 30 pairs of shoes. Later in studio, my daughter wanted to compare her old and new shoes, so she tried on one of each. The difference was incredible. Her new shoes from Misty were so much more comfortable and will allow her to develop the foot strength she will need to dance safely. Thank you Misty.
