The escrow period started fine and was expected to be 60 days, but when we changed the type of loan that we were going to use the builder denied the amendment to the contract without reading it. They said that they will not sell me the house if I don't use their specific lender from the local area. When I decided then that I was suspicious of this and wanted to find a different house, my realtor started arguing with me instead of representing me as my realtor should. She told me that because my lender (Quicken Loans) would use an appraiser from a pool instead of choosing a local one (assuming bribable) they needed me to use their local lender. My realtor from Berkshire Hathaway and the builder tried to tell me that Quicken Loans was not a top rated lender, which a quick google search for top mortgage lenders will promptly disprove. I even offered to change lenders if 30 days before the close of escrow we were not ready to fund because of my lender. They still refused to sell to me. The claim that Quicken Loans is an untrustworthy lender because they will drag their feet and not be able to close on time. This lead me to believe that either the builder, Beacon Builders, and Berkshire Hathaway have some sort of kick back agreement with the local lenders, or there is something wrong with the house that they needed a local lender to overlook. I strongly recommend that anyone looking for a realtor look somewhere else because there is something shady about Berkshire Hathaway. Side note: After leaving Berkshire Hathaway and Beacon Builders, I put an offer on a new house and closed escrow 12 days later, with Quicken Loans.
