These people are butchers!! I took my eternity ring in just to have the settings checked as I was concerned that one of the diamonds was loose. The woman took the ring behind a screen to examine it. After a good few minutes she returned and asked me whether I had dropped (?!) the ring or caught it on something as there was a huge gouge across the setting and that was why the stone was loose. She suggested that I took the ring back to the jewellers I bought it from for them to have a look. I was somewhat bemused by this as I knew there was no damage to the ring but I took it from her and left the shop whilst putting it back onto my finger. As I walked away I felt a roughness on the ring that was not there before and found, to my horror, that there was now a deep gouge right across the setting from one side to the other. In some distress I went across town to Johnsons Jewellers where the ring was purchased. They were shocked at the damage and could see that it had been caused by metal tweezers which had easily scraped through the 18k gold. They could see that the diamonds were secure in the setting, which can be determined by looking through an eyeglass, and described the damage as "bizarre". The ring has been left with them for repair which will cost me £25.00. We returned to Daniels and my husband went in to speak to the assistant (I was too upset) who, of course, denied the whole thing. I cannot prove that she caused this damage to my ring but both she and I know that she most definitely was to blame. Avoid this shop and spread the word. Take the time to walk to the other side of town to Johnsons - a proper jeweller. read more
