When I started working in London I finally had a chance to try Leon. Billed as "naturally fast…read morefood" I was still shocked to find how much of their menu is gluten free. Including the desserts. I loved it so much that I excitedly tweeted to them that I would singlehandedly keep a restaurant open in Brighton. And they replied to me telling me to wait. Well... the wait is over! Today I was invited to the opening of the new Leon Restaurant in Brighton which replaces Eat. I think this is a brilliant swap as Eat was far too similar to its neighbour Pret. But Leon is quite different in that it offers warm, hearty food. Setting up just before winter is also probably a good move. The decor is really nice and chilled out. They make good use of the space which I've previously found a bit dark and claustrophobic. Katy and I were greeted by some of the nice workers at Leon and told we could each choose a meal and drink to have on the house. We both went for the Moroccan Meatballs (on my recommendation). I had a lemonade to drink and Katy went for a green smoothie. We also picked up a few sweet treats: my favourite lemon and ginger slice and a billionaire shortbread for Katy. The meatballs are my favourite so I knew I would like them, but Katy had never been to a Leon and she loved it as well. She began talking about how close it is to her work and how she will be able to pop in on breaks for a relatively healthy and warm meal. We also tried searching for the menu online and a sneaky link to Deliveroo popped up. So we're hoping they're going to be one of our delivery options soon.

It is a little more expensive then normal burger shops but I could happily eat this every night of the week. Everytime I get an Uncle Sam's I am well happy with what I get and although not gourmet, it's one of lives little treats that you have to have if only infrequently for people who want to stay in shape. It does have a good range of other products that you would normally find in a traditional local take-away and even vegetarians would enjoy the selection of vegetarian burgers that they offer.

A friend and I were whizzing through the area in need of a quick bite before an appointment and this was a welcome stop off. A cheese burger meal and a bacon burger meal (with fries and drink) for just a tenner. I'm in. They are also super speedy. I received my order within 5 minutes (I timed them) and that was with 3 other food orders ahead of me. Taking no pride in their presentation my burger was rather hastily slopped together, but that gave it a rather reassuring freshly made appearance in stark contrast to the artificially uniform burger fare of more famous fast-food chains. In my haste to eat, the cheeseburger barely touched the sides. But there was no need to linger as the taste was so-so. There are a small number of tables if you fancy a sit down. If you want to drop in and pick up an order there are a handful of parking bays or you can nick a residential spot round the back. There is one toilet which is a bit shabby, but it has disabled access. If you're after your bog standard burger and chips on-the-go then this is certainly worth your custom. But if you're big on burgers, then this doesn't quite cut the mustard.

I am currently sitting in the restaurant eating Fish and Chips as a I write this. The fish is so crispy but so fresh on the inside and the french fries are perfect. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great spot to just grab some quick food. We were the only Americans in the restaurant, the rest of the guests seemed to be locals so that must be a good sign. Waitstaff was incredibly nice and the food came out very fast. Would come again!

You can walk in off the street at 3 in the morning, order mussels in a garlic and cream sauce, and finish that bottle of Pinot as the sun comes up: a unforgettable experience for so many reasons. The chief reason to go to Buddies is the fabled Buddies all-nighter: grab some friends, head to Buddies at a reasonable hour, and don't leave until the morning traffic has subsided. This is bloody marvellous, for easedropping potential if nothing else: the people who frequent are an eclectic and wonderful bunch. Last time I did this, a man punched a woman over a dog, some drunk students threw up on each other, and a man proposed only to be unsurprisingly turned down. What do you expect? It's on the seafront, it's open all night: who are they gonna attract? Drunk people and insomniacs, and neither really wants to be there. The menu is huge: most of it is awful. Stick to chips and well-cooked to avoid a premature end to your all-nighter. And if you've been clubbing, and want to stay up, pop in here to end the night with a more sanitary alternative to the kebab dripping down your shirt on the long, meandering walk home.

I've lived in Brighton for nearly two years now and, as a person who spent my formative years in…read moreHong Kong, could not find any local Chinese restaurant that took my fancy -- until now. As the first dish arrived, a warm noodle dish with a fermented bean sauce that I've ordered at countless Chinese resistants over the years despite repeated punishing disappointment, I was shocked to find it to be... perfect. Just the right amount of rich meat flavouring, no bitterness or cloying sweetness dominating the dish, and perfect ratio of sauce to noodles. The best version of this dish I have eaten outside of China. Then I tried the next dish -- again a commonly available and frequently ordered seared green beans with some spice and minced meat. Disbelief began to set in -- this was the best version of this dish I had in my LIFE. I began to wonder if I had accidentally starved myself for a week to make everything taste this good. Maybe I was going insane from infrequent Chinese food consumption. Maybe I needed to eat at a trashy Chinese restaurant to make sure I was properly calibrated. How could this random restaurant on Queens road, full of eateries that don't even have to be good because they get tourist foot traffic, be blowing my mind? We ordered yet two more dishes. The "Chinese Burger" -- our server admitted he just couldn't find a decent translation for the dish -- which consisted of fatty shredded richly flavoured meat not unlike the Chinese version of the shredded whole roast hog sandwiches that have recently joined London food markets in Southbank Centre and Borough Market. Much like my discovery of Polish lard spread with bits of bacon, the flavour put me beyond caring about the fat content. We finished with a Hunan tofu dish that, again, was stellar and for me an interesting contrast to a lot of the Sichuan tofu preparations I've tried in the past. Unusual for Chinese restaurants in the area, the server/owner was really friendly and chatty, talking about his idea behind the restaurant and photographing the food for the pictures in the window. It was a really warm welcome and only made me more excited to return. The only caveats are the small seating availability (it wasn't crowded -- yet -- but they only just opened a week ago) though they do takeaway, and the fact that the English menu is different from the Chinese menu, and contains an odd assortment of things mostly that people who don't really like and/or know Chinese food could order. It's ridiculous and you should order from the pictures in the window or ask the waiter what is actually on the Chinese menu. I begged them to translate it before I left. I'm still really confused about how every dish was beyond delicious. I will have to go eat at the lowest rated Chinese restaurant on Yelp, a Michelin starred one in London, and here again before I will probably be able to truly believe this magical experience really happened and can be had anytime I'm willing to spare a 5 min walk and £15pp. You think I'm joking, but I'll report back after I'm sure I'm properly calibrated.
