My wife who did all of the travel bookings is an old movie buff and put Cong on our travel itinerary. It was about 3:30 p.m. when we arrived in Cong after our morning visit to the Cliffs Of Moher. We had not eaten since breakfast and quickly made the short two block walk to Pat Cohans. We ordered the double burger with fries and a side order of onion rings. It was all good. Best onion rings I've had in a long, long time. The burgers were excellent. A few of you will pick up on this this statement, "where's the beef", well it was on our burgers. The beef patties were nice and thick. Great burgers! We had a nice late lunch, early dinner.

There was a continuous stream of local fanfare and traditional Irish music playing for hours on end. The food was phenomenal - a bit on the pricey end but of the highest quality imaginable. We loved every bite from the soups to the salad, to the seafood. I'm so glad we were able to enjoy this restaurant a couple of times while we were staying in the area. It really is the best food around here! Had a wardrobe and two windows. TV didn't really work but we just came there to sleep really. Room was so clean. Checked in late and it was smooth. Breakfast the next morning was delightful. We had an amazing cocoa, lots of toast, Eggs Benedict that was incredible. And everything is served via a fancy robot that played Christmas carols. What an awesome time to stay and eat here.

It was our first stop on a whirlwind week in Ireland and it's truly what you picture the word "inn" to mean. Small, cozy, somewhat off the beaten path, and just lovely. We had our first Guinness of the week there in the front pub with a cheerful fireplace and seemingly several locals bellied up (always a good sign in my opinion). Daniel (one of the managers) became an instant friend. He continued to give us GREAT recs for our short stay, even so much as writing them down on a napkin for me. Owner John Nevin greeted us each day with a smile and a story. The included breakfast is yummy and the dinner we had one night was amazing. It's also directly across the street from access to Clew Bay where we took a lovely hike along the water and sheep farms. It is located for easy access for a day trip to Achill Island (DO NOT MISS THIS). The price is right and accommodations more than satisfactory. We just loved it!

I took the photos that appear in 2002 and pulled two pints for the lads at the bar and didn't let then pay again. Cheers to Plunkett and his family for some of my favorite life memories.
