My husband was renewing his passport and I guided him since I was just there Monday. I had a staff member start an argument with me over a sticker. I spoke to the manager and she was no better. Yes, it really is that stupid. I couldn't find a sticker to write the address on my package so I waited in line to speak to one of the workers. I figured that they could either get me a sticker, or perhaps they could just print it electronically. When I asked the employee about the sticker, the woman working said that I couldn't just spend thirty seconds filling out the sticker at the counter, I had to fill it out and then wait in the entire line AGAIN. At that point the line was twice as long as when I walked in. I was shocked that I would be told to do something so dumb. When I asked the employee to clarify herself, she just openly said, "I told you the directions, the problem is that you aren't understanding it". She gave me an instruction that made no sense whatsoever, then essentially called me stupid when I asked about it. Every time I tried to talk to them about the situation, they tried to spin things to make it my fault. They were openly rude, and not very smart. I feel bad for anyone who has these employee's in their families. They really are sick and horrible people. You have to be really messed up to start a fight over a sticker. I also had a serious incident on the escalator. It caught my skirt, and despite multiple attempts to stop it, the escalator continued running. I returned the next day to report the incident and was told the person responsible was not there. After being given the runaround, no one ever followed up or compensated me for the damage to my dress, nail, watch, and other belongings. The elevators are also raggedy and often seem poorly maintained, which does not inspire confidence in the overall safety and upkeep of the facility. It's disappointing to experience such poor customer service, especially since the post office operates with very little competition. I do have another post office that I prefer, but this location is open later, which is sometimes more convenient. The facility often looks deserted, although there has been security in the parking lot since it reopened. Another frustration is that the location sometimes closes earlier than posted hours or seems to close whenever it wants. Overall, every visit feels like an inconvenience.

Thus, I decided to get a PO Box so my merchandise could be stored in a secure, government building. Plus, I really loved that they have incredible hours, being open until midnight Monday through Friday, and late into the evening on Saturday and Sunday. Alas, this is the only good thing; everything else has been one issue after another. There was a major issue of packages seemingly not being delivered. I would see the tracking notification stating it was, but no 'package waiting' slip in the mailbox. I would bring this to the staff... some of whom checked in the back, while others stated that if there was no slip, it was still moving through the building. After this repeated enough times that some of the staff remembered me, and after I said "the only thing there is the cardboard on the back," he realized that the PO Box was effectively marked as vacant. Uh oh. It was removed, and I thought it would be uphill from there. Nope, there was a further issue. But first, a quick note about Street Addressing. PO Boxes at this Post Office come with Street Addressing, a service where your PO Box comes with a real street address. In trying to find out what this address was, most of the staffers had no clue what I was talking about. I eventually learned what it should actually be from a poster in the hall. Once I knew this from an official USPS source, and the "vacant" sign was removed, I ordered an item to that street address. The UPS tracking showed it as being delivered to the Post Office. However, the package was nowhere to be found. It ended up being a whole lot of finger-pointing, with the package seemingly being swallowed by The Void. After this, I decided it was time to close the PO Box. It was unable to fulfill the function I needed it to, and this is in large part due to negligence (i.e., not taking proper care) by this USPS. Final nail in the coffin: the number of letters that get lost, and the delays if they don't (about a month), are beyond unacceptable.

We went to the Chinatown location for my daughter's passport appointment, and thanks entirely to Shannon, the experience was efficient, professional, and genuinely pleasant. She handled everything quickly and kindly, and we were in and out without any issues. USPS needs more employees like her.
