This is a beautiful little access point to the river, and it's quite amazing to slip a kayak into the water and paddle along, safely out of the hustle and bustle (and noise pollution) of the busy roads around. With the flood rebuilding pretty much complete this is back to being a family friendly river access point (and I'm sure disaffected youth are also sinking the occasional goon bag after dusk too).

What it is that draws people to the sea? This gorgeous structure with its solid stone foundation, built as a job creation scheme during the Depression years, beckons you to get along it, to go as far as you can out into the bay. It's great at high tide, just ask the fisherman. Above those 80 year old foundations is the very modern upgrade. In 2005, the Quandamooka, or Moreton Bay, Project was completed. Elements in the project are the result of a public design competition in 2002 won by designer Paul Songhurst entitled Bulka Booangun: Calling the Dolphins. The main features include a timber and ceramic sculpture made from three recycled hardwood pylons at the entrance to the jetty, six mosaics and lots of little silver fish set into the jetty depicting stories from traditional Quandamooka lore, and a direction-finder dial at the far end of the jetty. It was a warm day with a nice cool breeze and all in all, a great way to spend an hour. There was a young boy and his parents near us fishing off the end and down a bit further, there was a group of kids enjoying themselves playing some unknown game involving a tennis ball. It made for a fantastic atmosphere, relaxed and fun. It was great to sit and eat and watch the water.

It was still $15 per day when we went yesterday. The best way to get here is by car, taxi, or arranging it with Tangalooma. There is no public transport available at this time. Staff was really friendly and when it was time to board, they informed us and before we knew it, we were off to Tangalooma! The boat was spacious and we spent most of our time on the top deck enjoying the sun and scenery. If you arrive early, there is a coffee shop nearby where you can grab some brekky and coffee!

I just lined up to collect the boarding passes and they ran me through where to put the luggage and what to do. So easy! The experience was not stressful at all and we all arrived to the resort safely. We could not have done this without the help of the friendly staff at the Holt St Jetty.

The owners…read moreare really friendly and have given me advice over the years on what bait to use to catch a fish off Manly, a lure for a deep sea fishing bro-in-law, and crabbing stuff for my Dad; even cool thongs for another outlaw. The shop is right at the BP servo on top of Manly hill and if you're there early any day you can watch the passing parade of boats. Often the skippers will duck into the Water Tower Bait and Tackle for some last minute bits. Oh, I also bought the sharpest filleting knife I've ever owned there.

You feel that your crew are the only people on the river, until you notice the flashing beacons of other boats in the distance. As the mist settles, and the sun breaks through the horizon, the river comes to life with rowers, canoes, jet boats and City Cats. The UQ Boat Club caters to all levels of rowers, from beginners right through to the advanced; some of whom are in training for the London Olympics. And it welcomes members from outside of the university as well. The Learn to Row programme encourages university students and adults who aspire to become budding rowers (I did a course with people aged from 18 through to 55). The coaches are surprisingly patient and very friendly - I can guarantee they'll become your friends almost instantly. Though they do push you hard if they know you have it in you. They are always on the scout for newbies who show signs of potential, so if you think you could become the next Oarsome Foursome, then get into it! Training sessions generally commence before the crack of dawn (5am) and last roughly 2 hours. It's up to you how much effort you put in, and if you want to just row for fun, there are numerous social squads that head out for a paddle later on in the mornings.

It was amazing. The staff were as helpful as they were ridiculously good looking - the boat itself was clean, quick off the mark and it ran like a dream. It carries up to 130 people and is spacious, but cosy at the same time! I thought it was predominantly a cash bar, so my mind was blown to find out I was able to get cash out using my EFTPOS card! They had ample seating both upstairs and downstairs - all in all I would recommend this medium for any event ever. In a city as beautiful as Brisbane one should always take advantage of the magical river which gives you the most stunning views of the city you could imagine.

If you've got a young family there are playgrounds and bike paths to adventure forth on. If you're looking to hold a birthday, there are a number of sheltered areas and barbecues to cook those feasts on. For those with sea faring escapades in bind, for your vehicle there's a boat ramp for easy access into the water. If it's a nice day, sometimes my wife and I just grab a bite to eat from one of the nearby takeaways, unravel the picnic blanket and enjoy some afternoon nosh. For those visiting Redcliffe, there is an information centre right at the park's entrance where you can find a whole lot to do in this beautiful part of Brisbane.

Raby Bay Harbour Park is a lovely little park near Harbourview Court at Cleveland. It is a great…read moreplace to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon although sometimes there are many others with the same idea. It has a fantastic view of the marina and is really well kept, with plenty public rubbish bins and the gardens and grass areas are always in great condition. After browsing some of the local Cleveland shops, I sometimes like to grab a coffee or some fish and chips and wander down to the park to relax and watch the people go by. It is really relaxing, especially on a nice sunny day.
