Just rolled into the Darlington Station... and it is.. Darling! Ha! One platform, looks pretty easy to navigate. The town around the station looks nice as well. I stayed on the train, so I can't comment on the station's facilities. Cheers! read more

The station is great access for the East Coast Main Line. I regularly get this train to go down to London for work. The facilities are top draw. Cash Machines, Costa Coffee, A Pumpkin Cafe as well as WH smith. Make sure you have your ticket before you get on the train, as it has automatic gates. Staff are great to chat too and if your train is late, you can wait in the lounge. Parking is expensive so get a taxi. Normally £3 £5 from anywhere in Darlo. The taxis either drop you off at the front of back entrance. read more

Darlington is a lovely little railway station. It was one of the first railway lines in the UK and the town is thus steeped in train related history. I really loved the station I must say. It has a real traditional feel to it with its iron cash railings and red brick walls. If you are in to trains and looking for some nice stations, Darlington is the place for you. Otherwise to be honest, it not a bad place to stop off while waiting for a train. At least its visually pleasing, with a lovely bit of character, unlike many modern stations. read more

Darlington is home to the railways and still has two working stations, The main one is situated at the top of Victoria Road but can also be accessed from Yarm Road. Commonly known as Bank Top station this is on the main east coast line from London to Edinburgh. Previosuly run by GNER this route is now covered by Natonal Express. Like most stations built in the Victoria age this place is a draughty building in good and bad weather. Thankfully they have been refurbishing the waiting rooms so there is always somewhere warm to hide. The concours includes a Travel Centre for booking and collecting tickets, a WHSmith branch and a couple of places to grab a bit to eat or a drink. The staff are very helpful and friendly which is always good if you're trying to get some information fast. read more

Love this station that architecture and the history is amazing plenty to keep you occupied while waiting for your delayed train if you look for it, cold station but there is the cafe and waiting room which are both very comfortable. read more

Not been here for a few years, last time was as a recruit at Catterick in 1978, hasn't changed much but ideal to get north and south with speedy trains. Hopefully you don't have to stand all the way to London these days. read more

I think Darlington Station is the most romantic station ever! Ok well some people may beg to differ but I love it. It's all Victorian Style metal with a huge clock face (obviously now there are some more modern electronic boards and the clock is a little out). There are 4 platforms but the main platforms are 1 and 4 with 4 being the northbound platform (all trains heading to Edinburgh etc stop on this platform) and 1 being southbound (i.e London bound trains stop here). However with it being effectively a tube kind of design, the wind blows through so it's freezing in ALL weathers. Platforms 2 and 4 serve local trains such as those to Middlesbrough etc. There are buses also, if you go underground by the steps you come to a carpark and if you go out that the bus stop is just on the left - there are a lot of soldiers milling about here as the bus to Catterick leaves from here! Theres a coffee shop, WHSmiths, travel service and then a lounge inside the station. There are also toilets but the mens are on one platform and the womens behind them on another so you have to walk all the way round. There are car parking facilities, one outside which are short stay - £1 for an hour, a back carpark via the underground steps which are £1 for short or long stay and then over the road from that on the left of the pub is another long stay carpark which is free on Sundays. All I would say is this station can get a little scary at nights especially the underground walkway though this does have mirrors positioned that enable you to see round corners. Bank Top is a fine example of Victorian metal architecture as befits a main line station that once acted as a main hub for lines reaching out to the left and right of the main through fare. Following the Beeching cuts in the 60's traffic on it's branch lines became almost non exisitant and even today they are looking to link the line's from Shildon and from Saltburn into a new metro train similar to a bus route. Along with two main platforms that take most of the traffic there are three smaller platform's, one serving Bishop Auckland and the others serving Middlesbrough, Redcar and Saltburn although through the summers months they put on the occaisional train to Whitby. Along with its original cafe where weary travellers could sit and partake in a hot meal they now have a coffee cabin for those who like to be seen with the in crowd. With one small waiting room for ordinary folk and another for the first class passengers very little remains to remind people of the original railways with its First, Second and Third class travel but despite this not everything changes for the better. read more

Not very happy about the conductor darlington to redcar people took front seat and conductor watched as me and partner 2 kids struggled to get on as had pushchair .. Then on way back asked if my partner was pregnant ( which she isn't) discussed with this and won't be using train anytime soon read more
