When I was served with divorce papers I was lucky to have an attorney recommend Lisa P. Kirby, in Naples, FL, to navigate me through the difficult legal process. My divorce was complex in that it was a bicoastal filing in Florida while I resided in California. We had properties in both states as well as a host of other legal issues that needed to be addressed. Lisa's incomparable knowledge of the family law courts is amazing. She was able to outline the proper strategy with realistic expectations all while keeping me apprised of all the details throughout the preliminary stages. This was especially important since I did not actually meet Lisa until the day before trial. Lisa's trial demeanor is brilliant as it reveled her character and integrity. She skillfully covered each point and is well versed in case law, which she used throughout the trial. However, we were wholly ruled against by the trial Judge, The Honorable Joseph G. I called and spoke to someone at the law firm and was assured that I wouldn't be charged (This was my first error and I should have requested that in writing). I called this past week to get a refund thinking it would be for the full $2500 seeing as there were no services rendered. I was very surprised to see that I was billed $450 over time; including the initial $372, due to the firm sending "check-in emails or letting me know my case is inactive...well duh it's inactive it never started. After looking through the invoices I was additionally billed $15 for the firm to send a welcome email. I was charged after saying I didn't want to move forward for the firm creating a case chart or adding parities and previous case/docket numbers. I was also billed for the initial phone call with the attorney even though there is a line item further down that said it should be no charge in good faith to the client. I don't understand why any of this was done when I said I didn't want to move forward. I feel nickel and dimed for absolutely no services. Please be aware.
