That building replaced a Town Hall built in 1290 which was destroyed in an earthquake in 1356. The "New" Rathaus stands out with its red sandstone and striking tower. The political center of Basel was established on the same site in 1290. Loved exploring the courtyards, arcades and viewing the murals. Look up to get a different perspective and admire the old clock. Worth a quick stop to reflect on history.
