LIFE SAVERS!! I had an emergency & got locked out of my house in Livingston on a Saturday. Everyone and their mothers were closed. I tried damn near every locksmith in the Absaroka Mountain Range, and no one answered much less called me back except for Dave's. The man who spoke to me on the phone was Sean, who was very helpful, empathetic, and straight forward. For a very reasonable price, he offered to help even though he'd already been in Livingston that day and it'd take him two hours to get to me at the end of his long day. By some miracle, I ended up getting myself in my house and did not need his assistance after all, but he was very patient in my multiple and frantically-placed phone calls to him. I hope to God I never have to need a locksmith again, but if that fate falls upon me or anyone I know, you BET I'm recommending Dave's (Sean). read more

I hate to leave bad reviews for businesses but people considering a lock company need to be warned about how bad this company is to work with. This is a long term investment for a business and they are NOT worth a call! I started working with Dave's about 15 years ago and have 3 commercial buildings keyed with them. These last 4 years they have gone WAY downhill but we feel trapped because of the commercial key situation. First, we have a commercial building that they were supposed to re-key when we took over from the builder. We have had to call them at least once a year because the keys stop working and get stuck in the door. Today, we brought another key company out and with one glance he told us that it was cheap contractors hardware in the commercial door that wasn't meant for long term use...so basically we kept paying Dave's every time they came out but they didn't ever fix the original problem they created. To put the cherry on top, at one of my other businesses I wanted to put levers on the inside of one of our businesses doors for safety issues. When I called they refused in rude fashion, insistently demanding that fire code required keys even though my staff was now essentially locked in the building. I spoke with the fire Marshall and he confirmed that what I was wanting was legal and in fact the safest solution. I don't need these "know-it-all" people who don't even know the code telling me how to protect my employees...and then telling me I needed a written letter from the Fire Marshall. Sadly now I have to have everything re-done (including all of my expensive keys) by another company. read more

Wanted to swap a keyed deadbolt for a keypad type so I asked for some advice - and am so (so!) glad I did. They reminded me of the Montana winters and to avoid battery-powered deadbolt types since the severe cold tends to zap the batteries. They also helped me get it rekey to match the other locks in the house - while I waited in the store. This is first class professional service - and quick and personable too. read more

I was told if the key fob programmer didn't work it would still cost 100 bucks, why did I agree. Sure enough because it was Canadian f150 after a couple minutes I was out 100 bucks without what I needed. Just sucks. This was a while ago but I felt scammed. Hopefully this has changed. read more

James has been a huge help. We have an old historic home with obsolete mortised locks that had worn out. We were faced with replacing the whole original front entry oak door with a new modern door and getting all new hardware. James was able to research on-line locksmith boards for solutions. He found a company that remanufactured these old locksets. Problem solved! We now have a historic lockset with new innards that works like new, and our original door remains intact and beautiful. James spent a tremendous amount of time finding a solution for us. Highly recommended! read more

They took the time to come outside and lube both door locks and my tailgate lock while making sure their key worked perfectly in all three locks as well as the ignition. Excellent! Thought I would try to keep business local. Went there to have 3 copies of 3 keys. He told me that he would "try to get them done today" and would call me. These were house keys not any kind of specialty key. I left them there and thought about it and went back to get them an hour later. He was working on other peoples things that were waiting there. Ok so my front door handle was a mess! Whoever installed it put it in crooked, too close together and the dead bolt barely met the jam. Long story short I called Dave's and they came out, ordered another handle that would cover all the crookedness, showed up when promised, installed with care and the door actually shuts and seals better too! So happy they were able to fix this as I was looking at having to replace the whole front door and handle door. Thank you! read more

These guys were nice and tried to be helpful but overall, my experience with them went wrong in about every possible way. My car key was no longer turning in my ignition so I went to them. They gave me a reasonable quote for a new key and I had them go ahead and order it from somewhere else. They asked that I pay half up front which was fine. They said the key would likely arrive later in the week, but a week later I was still without a key and therefore still without a working vehicle. After two weeks they said the key had still not come in (at this point I had taken my ignition apart and removed enough pins so that my old car key worked). They called me and said the key arrived after 18 days. When I went to pick up the key they asked for the full price, it had not been noted that I had paid half up front. They kindly made a quick phone call though and confirmed I had paid in part already. Before paying the rest I went and tested the key, it did not start my car because the key did not have a chip. They told me that they could program a chip and add it to the key for about the same price I had already agreed to for the key. This may have been a misunderstanding, but when I consider that they were trying to give me a car key that doesn't start my car, I have to chalk it up to incompetence. Because I had already got my ignition to work with my old key (I could not wait 18 days), the key I was going to buy was only going to be a spare and now that it was going to cost twice as much as the original quote, it was no longer worth it to me. I walked out without a key and having paid for half of an un-programmed key. TL;DR -18 day wait to get a car key. -Forgot that I had already paid for half. -Key did not have a chip/wasn't programmed therefore would not start car. -Asked for twice the amount of the original quote in order to add chip and program the car key. read more
