First off, I read the reviews and chose to use this business anyhow. I thought what's the big deal if he's a grumpy old guy if he does good work. I couldn't have been more wrong. I took a pair of Frye leather boots in to be repaired because the leather had pulled away from the bottom sole. I asked if this could be repaired. The owner said yes, but because he had to sew a leather piece on the inside some of that would show. I asked how much would show and would it be obvious. He indicated just a little bit (whatever that means to him it wasn't what I tight, he also said they were nice boots and should be repaired. Apparently it meant about two inches of wrinkled barely matched leather that looked horrible. Very obvious and unbearable. Honestly my 80 yo mother with cataract could have sewed it better. I asked that they be redone. When I picked them up again I can safely say they were even worse. The sloppy unskilled work is unbelievable. This guy needs to shut down his business, retire and never look at a pair of shoes again. LADIES! DO NOT TAKE YOUR NICE EXPENSIVE SHOES TO THIS GUY! He is rude and unskilled, don't go there even for a simple resole. I hate leaving bad reviews but this is 100% deserved. I will say he gave me $50 or the $80 I paid him back but I left with boots I will never wear again that will go straight into the dump. They are not fixable even by a highly skilled cobbler. I really hate to do this because I never leave bad reviews. I took eight belts to Dave and asked for two holes added to each one. I came back to find that he added six holes to each belt. They were not in a straight line some at the very edge of the belt. My expensive belts that I was looking to get to fit again are now ruined! so frustrated, worst experience ever! read more

I wish I could do zero stars. I brought in some shoes that were busting add some stitching. These were some old nostalgic Nikes of mine. I thought of the idea to take them to A cobbler get them fixed instead of trying to use shoe glue to fix them myself. For some reason I just assumed that they would be sewn and they would look good if I'm paying for a professional to repair them. When I arrive to pick them up they had giant globs of black glue that's splotchy and not even covering the problem areas. I am so regretful that I took them here I wish I just took them to someone else or tried to repair them myself had I known this is the route of repair. The whole shop just reeked of shoe glue it looks like it's his favorite toy. I did not give permission to fix it like this and it's permanent, these shoes are going in the trash now. In my opinion you should call the customer if you decide to go glue crazy instead of stitching it properly. I told the older gentleman working that I was unhappy with this and really surprised at the work and he still charged me full $30. Not only Were the shoes ruined but the man was very confrontational about it saying that the shoes we're not gonna be danced in and that they were very beat up. Disrespectful. Absolutely some of THE worst customer service I have ever had the displeasure of receiving in my entire 60 years of life!! My wife had a small Travelon purse that had developed a small tear, where the strap connected to the purse. Before we go on, you need to know that Travelon bags are SPECIFICALLY designed for...yup...TRAVEL. The purse strap had a metal band sewn into it to prevent a purse snatcher from cutting the purse off a person, when the bag is slung over their body. Back to my review: The guy behind the counter (not Dave) told me that it would cost $20 to repair the tear. He also informed me that a small patch would have to be applied inside the purse, and the repair would see the patch through the inner purse liner. I said, "okay." He gave me a claim ticket and away I went. Yesterday, I went to pick up the purse. Same guy was there. It took him forever to find the purse. When he finally did... The TAN purse was filthy and...it's metal infused strap had been REPLACED with a cheap, GRAY cloth strap!!! He had no idea how it happened, why it happened or who had done the "repair." He said, "Come back tomorrow and talk to Dave." I said, "Why? How is that going to help me?? Now, here's the bad part: While I was talking to my wife, on the phone, the dude called Dave. He then handed me the phone, so I could talk to Dave. I said, "What have you done to my wife's purse!!??" He said, "I don't know. I didn't do the work. Come back tomorrow." I said, "Why? How will that help?" Ready? He replied, ""WELL F-CK OFF THEN!!" I brought in an older pair of Allen Edmonds for re-sole. Based on many reviews I read, I was sure I'd be happy with the result! Unfortunately I got them back and they're pretty rough. Not a lot of care went into them. Lots of open strands and missed stitches, and looked very sloppy on the welt and on the outsole. There's also a dab of some light colored epoxy/glue in the eyelet area. These shoes are not my best, I have much more costly pairs and they will not come here, though. Very sad. Being a cobbler is not a common profession by any stretch, but the ones still operating should be competent enough to properly re-sole a pair of shoes. This is so disappointing. read more

I brought in my free bird boots to get their sole repair because it look like a good place since it had great reviews. When I came to pick them up the guy had fix the sole but also painted them without my permission. Then the lady that was working there said it looked good and the straps can cover the uneven paint job. She just said there is nothing she can do. She was then speaking Chinese talking about me with the other coworkers. She didn't even apologize. Do not bring your shoes here to repair unless you want them to mess them up. read more

I went to Dave's Repair shop based purely off of Yelp reviews, it is a much-loved business! Sadly, my overall experience as a first-time customer was between average and below-average. I felt I was paying a premium price for my shoe repair, a price higher than I've paid in the past for similar repairs (waterproofing and stitching), although the price may be appropriate for the years of experience that exists in this place of business and its customer following. Dave is kind, but I can tell he focuses on speed and efficiency of his service over friendly chit chat. No harm in it, it just felt important to mention. They had my shoes ready in a week, and unfortunately, I did have to ask for some touch ups the moment I held them. The stitching wasn't completed, and the thread was a different color than my boot (white vs. brown). The shine/waterproofing wasn't thorough. These issues inherently disappointed me, but the flip side is that Dave took care of those issues immediately while I was waiting. Although, I would've appreciated a little more mindfulness, because I came home with black fluid on my fingers...which I found on my shoe, on top of the white thread, that was supposed to be brown... Also, I came home with boots that had loose threads where it was meant to be stitched... Don't do it. Took some dress boots in for new heel tips and to have the heels wrapped. He told me to wrap the full heel would be $60 but he could wrap the lower part that was damaged for $45. I prepaid and was excited to have my favorite boots back. When I picked them up a week later the heel tips were replaced and the heels were painted, no wrapped at all. The rough edges weren't even trimmed. I can buy a Sharpie at Target for $2 and get the same result. Won't ever make the mistake of taking anything here again. read more

BEWARE! I had a vintage leather purse that needed restitching along one seam and didn't want to trust it to just anybody. I asked around for recommendations, and Dave's kept coming up. I called first, to make sure the restitching was possible, and was assured it would be no problem. I brought it in, along with one pair of scuffed patent leather shoes for cleaning. The gruff fellow at the counter (Dave?) insisted that the shoes, which I'd worn only twice, also needed new heel taps. I didn't think so, but agreed to the extra work since he's supposed to be the expert! When I went in to pick up my order, the Man Who May Or May Not Be Dave told me that he'd had trouble with one of the heels and had cracked it, but repaired it "at no charge." Well, there was SOME charge because he short-changed me by $10 when I paid, and knew exactly what he was doing because when I turned around to go back to the register, he pulled another $10 out of the till without me even asking, and looked mighty disappointed that I'd caught on. I should have inspected everything while I was still in the shop, because when I got home I discovered that in truth, he'd cracked BOTH of the heels and his "repair" was to smear glue over the cracks! He must be fond of glue, because that's also how my purse was "fixed," instead of being sewn as I'd requested. It ruined any intrinsic value of the bag, and the seam opened again shortly thereafter anyway. Lesson learned! read more

I called and asked if they could remove the metal shanks from my dress shoe. The fella that I spoke to said "no problem." When I went in to explain what I need, he looked at me like I had two heads. I went back a week later and the shoes were in rough shape. He started by trying to remove the soles, only to fail. He then went in through the top of the shoe and was able to get them out. Unfortunately, the soles of the shoes were now pulled back and the glue he used wasn't working. That guy ruined a new pair of shoes. read more

I broke the buckle off my leather boots and was really upset as I had just bought them. I needed it fixed quickly as I was only in town for a blip and couldn't wear my boots until they were fixed. This was actually the 2nd repair place I went to as #1 was closed. I'm glad I did. I walked in, showed him the damage. He took the boot, fixed it in under 3 minutes and didn't charge me for it. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!! I brought my broken boot to this shop about a month ago. The zipper is broken, I told the shop owner this when I dropped it off. He said it would be fixed in a few days. Great, I picked it up when he told me to, and my boot APPEARED to be fixed. I went the the mountains that weekend for a getaway and these were the only shoes I brought, I put them on once and took them off that evening AND GUESS WHAT THE ZIPPER WAS STILL BROKEN. So I don't know what he did but he didn't fix my shoe. So after having to buy another pair of shoes up in the mountains because I was shoeless for my trip I brought my boot back. I told them I was very unhappy that I paid $30 and nothing was done to my shoe, and again to make matters worse I had to spend extra $$$$ on a new pair of boots that I wouldn't have needed if he had just repaired it the first time. Anywho I drop off my shoe AGAIN and he says someone will call me in a few days. Well 2 WEEKS goes by and I haven't heard a peep. So I call the shop, turns out they never put a tag on my boot so it has just been sitting there for two weeks. Its just one guy who runs the shop so please tell me how he doesn't notice a boot sitting there for 2 weeks and does nothing with it? I told him I was furious at this point, and the guy says I THINK YOU NEED A NEW ZIPPER. Yes, I am aware that's what a said a month ago when I dropped it off. He said they would repair it for an additional $45. Which to me is ridiculous. At this point I have already paid you to fix my shoe once and you didn't and lied to me about it, and now my shoe has been sitting there for two weeks with no contact to me. I told the guy I wanted a refund. Which is the only nice thing he did for me. He said he was sorry for the trouble and I told him if he was sorry he would have just fixed my shoe. When I dropped off two pairs of boots, the man working (I presume is Dave) said would be no problem to replace the heels on both as they are scratched and worn. He even said he would make the one pair have a lower heel, as I would like. Told me no problem, would be done 4 days later and told me they prepay. That should've been the first red flag... Paid the $45 and left. Go to pick up my favorite boots, excited they'd look like new (he said he would even polish them and make them look their best) to see a shotty job at best was attempted to cover up both heels on both boots, no replacement, and looked like someone had melted a rubber substance all gooped up on the heel. Looks terrible. Asked to speak to Dave. And he said oh sorry, yea that's an extra 60$ to replace the whole heel. So I asked how he told me that he would even put on a smaller heel on the one pair, and he said he never said that. I feel like I'm in crazy town. He said he would fix the one pair that was obviously bad and looked like a toddler did the 'repair'. I'm a little nervous to leave them there again in worry that they will be further damaged. I wanted to like this shop. FYI this shop and Louisville Shoe Repair are the same business. I actually dropped off my shoes at Louisville Shoe Repair on a Monday. When I dropped off the shoes everything seemed fine. But when I came to pick up my shoes on Friday (the day I was told they would be ready), they were not there. The person seemed a little annoyed at me that I expected them to be there. This is when I found out that Dave's Shoe Repair is the same business because that is where my shoes were. I wanted the shoes that day, so the man called down to Arvada so that they would hold the shoes there for me to pick up. When I arrived at Dave's Shoe Repair, my shoes were not ready. The person there showed me the patch on the shoe, and the patch was a different color than the rest of my shoe. He said was going to dye them. He spend about one minute spraying my shoe in the patch area. I guess I expected more effort to be made in getting the patch to match the rest of the shoe. It was a crude repair. I expected more for $25, and I expected my shoes to be ready when I was told they would be. I was pretty disappointed with the service and work. I took a pair of my favorite distressed leather boots to Dave's for a leather patch and new sole--which they took care of beautifully--you can't even tell! It didn't occur to me that they would want to polish the boots as well--which came as quite a shock when I picked them up! They were darker...and shiny! Yikes! My grief was apparent and the gentleman behind the counter immediately tried to fix the problem. He really was very concerned, and when he approached Dave as to how to proceed, Dave knew immediately that they were Steve Madden boots and promised that they'd be back to their original 'distressed' appearance by the next day--and they were--so that was a nice save. However, I had to return a few days later to re-glue the heel tread on, and a few weeks later the other heel tread came off. I've since purchased some Shoe Goo. Seems easier. However, I've taken other shoes to Dave without a problem. Just be sure to let them know that the leather of your distressed shoe or boot is supposed to look that way and to please not 'fix' it. The glue thing could happen to anyone and just a bummer that everything occurred at once for me. read more
