Took my Shark vacuum into Dave's because I had something stuck in the floor brush tool that I couldn't dislodge. The owner very quickly fixed my issue and at a great price! There are three businesses that bring me back to Allentown: my hair salon, farmers market and Dave's Vacuum. My 20 year old Kenmore is still going strong, but needs the occasional servicing and belt replacement. Dave's is the only place I trust. His prices are more than reasonable. He's quick with repairs. And when I tried to trade in my old vacuum for a new one, his response was "I'm more than happy to sell you a new vacuum. But in my opinion, the one you have has a lot of life left in it and is better than half the new ones on the market." Honesty and integrity like that is hard to find these days and is representative of the Old Allentown where I grew up--and the reason Daves has been in business for over 50 years. read more

Had considered this model locally owned firm during dealing over decades. No longer. Purchased an "in stock" Miele vacuum motor, bench-tested fine but unable to close the plastic housing. Dave's demanded $60 to "install" the motor (that involves one Molex connector) plus claimed other costly damage that "you screwed up.' Since the motor was new, asked about refund or credit. Mechanic claimed falsely that it was Special Order and unreturnable. Then, when confirming the motor was stock, amended this to no returns for electricals. I really do not believe this inflexibility, and misdirection, helps a small business thrive in competition with Amazon or other Internet sellers. Miele only deals through sellers like Dave's. I will replace through a seller like Amazon. read more

I cannot rate their repair work as I have not yet tested the vacuum they repaired. I may leave an update when I do. I'll start with, we dropped off an old Kirby vacuum for an estimate. They called with it and my wife said she'd get back to them. We decided against the repair and she went in to retrieve the vac. The owner said that'll be $238. My wife didn't understand why it was repaired when we never okayed it. The owner then declared he'd unfix the vac and walked off in a huff. My wife left and phoned me. I decided to call and see what the problem was and if we could work something out. I spoke with the owner and he decided to charge an even $200 as a result of the mix-up. Thinking everything fine, I went to pick up the vac. The owner stated to me , " I took a beating on this one , don't bring me another. " I left with my vac and no receipt for the work and cash I paid. So my problem is with the attitude in general. His mistake to begin with , and then proclaiming taking a beating over what amounted to little more then a 15% discount. So , if you like being treated poorly, this is the repair shop for you. read more

A few weeks back, my Kenmore Progressive carpet beater stopped working. The connection between the attachment and the wand had burnt out. I brought it in to Dave's for a repair quote. They showed me exactly what needed to be replaced and priced the job at ~$70. Upon initial reaction, that seemed really high to me - I mean, you can buy a new dirt devil for under $100. I told them I was going to think about it and I may be back. Without pressuring me, the guy told me that the Kenmore Progressive is a good vacuum and that even used ones sell for a few hundred. I brought my broken vacuum back home and borrowed my friends dirt devil for a few weeks. Within the first week of having it, the roller brush jammed and the belt broke. Faced with this new evidence, I decided it would probably be worth it to repair my old, reliable vacuum. When I returned to Dave's, a different employee confirmed the $70 estimate (nice to see that they're consistent in their pricing). He gave me a ticket and told me it would be ready in 3 days. Went back a week later to pick it up. The guy there (3rd different employee) told me that the new wand piece hadn't come in yet - "why hadn't they called me," I thought to myself - but he went over to one of their used Kenmores and gave me its working wand. Vacuum seems to be good as new - they also replaced the plastic light cover with no additional charge. read more

Absolutely horrendous experience. They lost my Dyson vacuum cleaner, didn't call back for days and after me calling over and over again, they finally announced that they recycled my vacuum! No one ever called or got my consent, and truthfully a 3 year old $400 vacuum cleaner does not just die without a chance for repair! I was on the phone with Dyson and they were ready to help before I found out that this fine establishment just claimed my property. Their employee Jeff who handled all of this could absolutely use training in customer service and, well... simple human decency. We wanted to be civil about it and work out a solution, but Jeff just hung up! And this type of attitude and a way of doing business is the reason why moms and pops shops will be gone in the next decade. Never again! read more

My daughter's cheap vacuum could not handle two dogs and a cat, so she asked for a new one for Christmas. I looked at several "pet hair" models in the more common brands, but they were so poorly made, and had such lousy reviews that I did more research. I decided that one Miele would be less expensive then a new piece of junk every two years. When I went to Dave's, I was so impressed I bought one for each of us. Dave was very honest about what features and accesories were really important, and how I could save a little by not buying a model with features that weren't really necessary. We both LOVE our vacuums, and LOVE the service and staff. read more

Dave's is the place to go. I used to own a cleaning service in Allentown and have had to have many maintenance repairs on the many vacuums I used. They know their stuff and are fair and reasonable. Now that I have moved to Florida, I'll be ordering parts from them if I need them.
