A friendly common sense reminder for everyone out there hit by whatever heating or cooling outage. Stay away from companies that reply with "your equipment is too old, we're not touching it as it might break somewhere else and ruin our reputation, but we're more than happy to install a brand new one for you" or the ones that will send you "quotes" with shiny round numbers, without giving you a rundown of hardware and labor. In my case, I found them both in this company. If you can believe it, they also replied to one of my inquires about one of the quotes they sent me with "don't know the brand or model, it's whatever we have in stock". Pretty shocking if you ask me. I can't give them zero stars, but in their defense they did send someone to take a look at my furnace for the problem I was having with the motor on my blower. But unfortunately when I said "look", I meant LITERALLY LOOKED AT IT. I was stupidly expecting him to pull a good old multimeter and check a few things here and there e.g. a motor, a capacitor, a relay. That didn't happen. It was all based on a hunch. So, as you might expect, I didn't give them my business. The lack of professional attitude is what pushed me away, the original $7,000 quote for a furnace I didn't need, the revised flat cost for fixing the blower after they realized that the other half of the entire system had already been rebuilt by the previous owner, with no itemized list of parts and labor of course, not to mention the cool "whatever we have in stock" $1,200 solar attic fan I was actually truly excited to learn more about. You might be wondering why this company gets so many good reviews here though. I'm assuming the low level of expectation people have nowadays? I am also a professional (not in this line of business unfortunately) and I could never treat my customers this way. Be transparent, honest and professional with the service you're providing and have respect for other people's hard earned money. read more

I will only be using this company in the future. I had called to set up an appt since my furnace was making a loud noise. Dorothy asked for a recording of the noise so Manny could figure out the problem. They are pretty sure a part needs to be replaced so they also let me know my furnace was not as old as I thought and should be under warranty. She walked me through how to check and get signed up properly for the warranty. She also let me know I would have to go through a specific company for the repairs to be covered. Update 5/18/24: Since I posted the review below, it was explained to me that the estimate I was given was for both a replacement A/C unit AND furnace. I appreciate them contacting me to straighten this out, so raised the rating to Good. I still think if they had offered right away to send someone out instead of giving me a quote over the phone, or listened more closely to what I was asking for, this misunderstanding wouldn't have happened. Instead I contracted with another company. They also said that they were in the process of putting up a website, and were considering listing with BBB. Davey was the first company I reached out to for an estimate on repair or (more likely) replacement of my very old A/C system. I talked to a very nice woman at their number, who asked me for some details about the size of my house, age of the A/C unit, etc. When I asked if they would be sending someone out to get a more accurate estimate, she said there was no need, that they did estimates over the phone. I was unpleasantly surprised when she quoted me in the neighborhood of $14500-15500 for a replacement 3.5-4 ton unit. When I looked online for the typical cost, I saw "most range between $3,500 to $8,000, including installation" on www.consumeraffairs.com. Called another company, and they were professional enough to send someone (the owner, in fact) out to look at it and chat with me. His estimate for a new Lennox system: $6900-$7400 depending on the efficiency rating. So no surprise, I won't be using Davey, who by the way, doesn't appear to have a website, nor could I find them on BBB. read more

I had written before about how unimpressed I was with the lack of interest in our project, but I want to give credit where it is due. The owner reached out to me repeatedly to explain why the "lazy quote" occurred in the first place and also in attempts to "make this right". This resonates with me deeply as a business owner of professional services. The uninterested initial quote was explained as they got suddenly slammed and he had intended to follow up but failed to do so. Certainly reasonable, and as I told him, just tell me that and I'm OK with waiting until you have time to work something up. If he had sent me the perfunctory "gee I'm sorry and this isn't how we really are" message as the result of a bad review then I would have brushed it off. He didn't do that. He sent me the original "I'm sorry", followed by a much more passionate "I'm really sorry" followed by "I'm super sorry and want to make this right". THAT is how you do business and I will absolutely consider Davey in the future. I can't give Davey 5 stars for services yet to be rendered, but for a company that didn't do anything more severe than give me a lazy quote, I believe my current rating is reasonable. read more

Second time using Davey's, and I really can't recommend them enough! They are highly professional, but most importantly, they care. Manuel came out to inspect and certify my furnaces. One needed repair - it had a tiny leak, but the screws just needed to be tightened. I watched the furnace overnight, and he texted this morning to check on it. He saved me over $850! Our furnace stopped working just as the cold weather moved in. Dorothy scheduled a service call the same day, even though we weren't current customers. Manny arrived on schedule, diagnosed the problem quickly and gave us several options for the repair. He even offered to upgrade our out-of-date thermostat free of charge. We were so pleased with his work, we asked if he'd be able to update our humidifier while he was here. Cannot recommend this company more! Dorothy was polite and professional and shceduled someone to come out the day I called to look at my AC unit. It was very hot and I expected to have to wait. Manny come out midafternoon and after i told him I had installed a new thermostat, he discoved a wire not connected. He connected it and the AC began to work perfectly. Then told me they were "out for the night" and mayyybbeeee they could fit me in the next week. I'm in a house with no heating with snow, you kidding me? Thank you, next.... Update: co-owner called me to tell me they are out of guys and some of their customers have been waiting weeks with no heat. It is January and lows have been in the -20's. I don't know who would wait weeks for that...Proceeded to tell me I should have called multiple people rather than wait on them (called at 9am) because they "have families" I also have a family who is living in a home that HAS NO HEAT in the middle of January- we have been staying at my mothers house for four days. Terrible. Update: second owner called me and was very nice. Said everyone is overworked and tired and apologized. Said he would come out today to look at it. I can't review this company as a customer because I am not yet one. I called them because my air conditioner was giving an error and not working and I asked about their price and availability. They gave me the information I was asking for, but asked what I needed help with. While they could have sent out a technician to look at the problem for a diagnostic charge, they instead proceeded to help me over the phone, for free, over the next 24 hours while I cleaned various parts to resolve the issue. This wasn't just shot-in-the-dark troubleshooting- we exchanged photos and descriptions of what I saw so they could help narrow down the root cause. After cleaning out some gunk in a part of the system that I didn't know existed 24 hours ago, it came back to life and is running now. The world needs more companies like this right now. Because they went out of their way to solve the problem rather than wring a quick buck out of me, I will be calling them the next time I need something. Now I trust that they will do their best without finding ways to upcharge me needlessly- which is a problem that plagues the HVAC service industry. This was obviously unacceptable for a California girl like me, so she quickly began calling around to get it repaired. We were ready to get the AC unit serviced so we could fire it up. I'm very sweaty at night, you see. I reached out and talked to Dorothy on the phone after she texted asking for some info for our existing unit. I got halfway through reading model number and she diagnosed what we needed: a new unit. Dorothy also warned us about the furnace and what happens when you don't update both units. As for the install of both units, Manuel and his team did a fantastic job. I want to heap praise on Davey Heating. On Christmas Day 2023, my boiler made a big noise and spewed water in the basement. Predictably, most places were closed or had no boiler repairers. Davey was available, but wanted info before coming out and charging me the premium because it was Christmas. They worked with me over the phone and, while the problem may not be resolved, they took a chunk of their time reviewing the pictures I texted them to tell me, even if there might be a problem, it would not be worth me paying them for them to come out, until we could ascertain what exactly the problem might be. As of this writing, the boiler is running with no apparent leaks. So, maybe the issue was the pressure release valve. read more

AC broke a few days ago. Initially were very helpful on the phone trying a few things and laying out options (Friday morning), and answering the phone over the weekend when initial stuff didn't work. That's why I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1. Set an appointment for Tuesday morning. Never showed. I call, they say the appointment was for Monday and they came, but nobody was home and they didn't have a card so didn't leave anything. Earliest they can do is next Monday. Just no way any of that is true. First off, believe me I was counting the hours until they came with 90+ heat and two kids under 3 years old, so I'm sure the appointment was Tuesday. Second, multiple people were home all day on Monday with two dogs who bark at the door, so they def didn't show. Third, who comes by without leaving a card or calling? I say all this on the phone, and the response is "well you're wrong he was there, we can't schedule you until 6 days from now." Well guess I can go f myself. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but zero responsibility taken for messing up the appointment, and I'm sorry but seems like lying about it afterwards (no card? no phone call? no evidence of being here at all?). To be more charitable, I guess there must have been some sort of confusion because others seem happy with the service, and again they were responsive on the phone. So just be incredibly clear about scheduling. UPDATE: upping to 3 stars because they sent somebody today after I posted this review. I ended up finding somebody else in the interim but appreciate their effort to fix the situation. read more
