It was therefore a huge relief to me when a trusted colleague in the landscaping business, Joe Badali, of Islington Nurseries, recommended Ontree, telling me that he now exclusively uses them for all his tree jobs, and has been extremely happy with them for several years. With that recommendation in mind, I contacted Ontree and asked for an assessment on three jobs I had outstanding. I met with their certified arborist, Jody, at the sites in question and was impressed with his intimate knowledge of trees and his assessment of how we should proceed with the jobs in question. What I particularly liked was his honesty in assessing the jobs. He did not try to suggest more work was needed, he suggested things we could minimize, or put off. He pointed out what work was critical. He was honest about the risks and pinpointed several tree health issues. One of the job sites had an access issue, where trying to get certain branches would be difficult, and Jody was pleased to point out that they have specialized equipment which is able to get through very constricted spaces and elevates the arborists safely to the target branches. ("Spider lift" machines. Spider lifts are aerial man-lifting devices that can reach various heights). Safety for anyone working around on my property or any of my client properties is very important to me, so it was a relief to hear about their equipment. (In the past, unfortunately, I have had bad experiences with tree companies that do not strictly stick to safety both for their workers and the homeowner.) After I met with Jody, it was a very short time until I received the pricing for the jobs. I made sure to be present at the job sites when the work was being carried out and was very impressed with the crew and delighted with the work they carried out. They were very courteous, answering any questions I had. They carried out the work in a totally professional and safety conscious manner. They cleaned up the work site. All members of the crew showed an excellent knowledge of, and a great love for trees. I have no hesitation in hiring Ontree for any tree work I need done.

You will not find a more honest tree care company than Ashleys Tree Care. I cannot say enough good…read morethings about them. We had a massive norweigan maple that was dying. It hung over our driveway, ours and our neighbours houses, the street, and was growing through power lines. Ashley's was one of four companies (of over a dozen) that said they could do it, and one of only two that actually came through with a quote. They were significantly cheaper than their competitor, but it was still a ~$25k removal. Instead of taking our money and running to the bank, Ashley pushed back, and told us we should pursue an alternative with the city. Our tree was a boundary tree, and there were mechanisms in place to make the city share responsibility. We followed Ashleys advice, and 6 months later the tree has been fully removed by the city. We did not have to contract any arborist, but the good honest advice from Ashleys saved us $25k (or $40k, if we'd been stuck with their competitor). They gave ust that advice even though it was against their own best interest. They've won a customer for life through their honesty, and we will absolutely be using them for any future pruning or tree care needs.

The communications and interactions were very friendly and detailed. The tree cutting was done very professionally by Bruno and his team. They didn't just cut. Before cutting, a plan was done for each cut to obtain the best results. Clean up of the cuttings was done immediately. They lost 1/2 point due to the dragging of some of the cuttings over my other plants. The team even cut up some of the tree branches and stacked them for us to use as fire wood. I would definitely recommend and used them again.

Before I left Toronto on May 23, my Blue Spruce was healthy with vibrant, green new growth. When I returned in mid-June, I found extensive damage: large sections of new growth had turned brown, twisted, and appeared chemically burned. Several nearby plants also showed signs of chemical staining and leaf injury. Tree Doctors had applied a Needlecast treatment on May 29 and on June 6. When I reported the damage and asked for someone to assess the situation in person, Tree Doctors offered nothing but excuses. They did not take responsibility, nor did they send anyone to evaluate the harm their treatment had done to my tree. Their response--marked by dismissiveness and a lack of accountability--was disappointing and upsetting. I am now consulting an independent arborist to assess the impact on my trees and surrounding plants. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Tree Doctors. Their poor communication and failure to stand behind their work have caused lasting damage in my garden.
