When I returned to work after my first surgery, my company put me on a performance improvement plan without regard for me healing from surgery and knowing that I had another surgery coming up. I was distraught, knowing there was likely no way I could make the aggressive deadlines I was given due to my physical condition. I'm so naive, I literally Googled "what to do if your company is trying to fire you due to a condition caused by your job" and of course Worker's Comp came up. I reached out to a few attorneys in the area. One only returned my call after I followed up, and even then, it was a paralegal who told me that they are so busy, they don't really do carpal tunnel work unless you want to pay for it yourself. And of course, I already realized that I wouldn't earn anyone much money since I hadn't lost a limb nor am I permanently disabled. I began researching what to do on my own. Do I file with the state or tell my company first or what? Then I received a return call from Mr. Morrell. He confirmed what the other practice told me, but he also answered my questions and gave me free advice on how to proceed with my company and the state. ( in a strip mall in Greeley) I ignored all the signals and signs. In The end I got scammed and screwed in my Workman's Comp. Claim. Do the research folks when hiring. Know ALL the fees you will eventually pay (mine totaled 1/2 of settlement amount. This definitely convinced me that Workman's Comp is not for the injured worker but for the company and "legal team" picking up the scraps.
